2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

Azera is a bigger Sonata and 2.0T kicks some serious @$$, for awhile there I thought it was as fast as my Genny...and then I got back into my Genny :)

Handling wise Genny is much more stable than Sonata, even my wife noticed. I do have to say I loved the Sonata with it's 6 speed tranny, there is no need to downshift most of the time and shifts happen much much faster than Genny's 8 speed and the turbo torque is always there, chirp tires at 40mph anyone? Oh yeah!

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

I agree with YEH. The Genny will be more money for a similarly sized car as an Azera, but the extra money is worth it IMHO. To me, an Azera is just a bigger Sonata inside and out. The Azera comes with a good amount of tech, so I'm actually doubting the 2G Genesis will have substantially more "goodies".

While Hyundai may decide to limit the tech options on the USDM Genesis compared to the KDM Genesis as they have done - if not, the Genesis will have tech items such as HUD, "Around View Moniter" camera system, etc. (Hyundai may reserve these items for an "ultra" package") - things that are not available on the Azera.

Even more mundane tech items like adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring (albeit, there are numerous ways to address the blind spot issue w/ side mirrors which are cheaper and w/o the hassle of more tech bits that could break down) are not yet available on the Azera.

adaptive cruise control is already available on the current car...

I was hoping the TACH, SPEEDO and other instrumentation was to be PC -screen based.
This photo of the dash shows mechanical style.
As for the center dash- way too many controls, clutter- like a Chevy.

Speaking of the interior, I note that there are slots close to the wheel that may be for paddle shifters. They may not be on this test model, but could be a performance option in the production version. Lexus is promoting the availability of paddle shifters on their new cars.

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

hopefully the paddle shifters will allow shifting in full auto modes like the Acura RL/RLX.

I'm not sure if you've drove the 5.0, but I have no problem getting the rear end squirly at highway speeds (70mph). WOT has no problem inducing wheel spin on the 245 series tires (all seasons or winter)... and I can make her break loose quite easy with my 275 series summers...

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

I happen to like the fact that the knobs are still there. Every carmaker seems to want to give everything a touch interface and I want nothing to do with that.

+1 - Fingerprints everywhere...

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

I looked and can't spot a differential anywhere.

You normally can't spot a sedan's differentials wether they're in the front or back. Some however tend to have lifted suspensions such as the late model Lexus IS250 AWD and last gen 328Xi. This fortunately does not.

Only drove the 5.0 once and that was a test drive. No doubt it would chirp tires with 429hp, but I was talking about a Turbo Sonata doing it.

During lunch my 3.8 isn't allowed to put full power down, I hate the 8 speed tranny/nanny in that regard. At highway speeds though there are no complains other than slow shifting going up.

I just really liked the turbo/6 speed combo on the Sonata, and it was $265/month lease at that with 0 down and taxes/fees included in price. Turbo with tech package.

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

that looks pretty nice. if it has awd, 429+hp and they remedy the soot problem, it looks like i will wait til this model comes out to buy my first genesis.

"soot problem"... I just dont get the recurring reference to it. In the few (1k+) miles I've been able to rack up, I see road paticulate debris adhering to the sides of the car as much as I see anything around the tail end -high or low. Regardless, every section of the waxed paint has wiped off easily in the four times I've washed it. Soot problem already solved? Maybe so.

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

I'm going by the 3 2013 3.8Ls that I have rented.
I drove about 100 mi from orlando to tampa and had black stuff on the back of the car. It wasn't that visible on the entire back of the car until you got close, but if you rubbed on the car when you were getting something out of the trunk, black stuff was on your pants.

the area just outside the exhaust toward the center line of the car was stained (it wouldnt wipe off with my finger) with soot. the 3 cars I rented had approx 3500mi, 6800mi, and 12k mi each.

maybe the problem is fixed on the rspec, or maybe it doesnt affect all cars.

the car with 6800mi on it had soot approx 1-2mm thick on the exhaust pipes when i scraped it off. As a rental, I am sure it doesnt get cleaned as much as someone that loves their car, but my camry 3.5Lv6 has never had the inside of the pipes cleaned and at 72kmi has no buildup.

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

Yes, the GDI produces soot on the exhaust pipes. Once you get the stuff off, it's very easy to maintain once a week with just a car wash and a wipe down... I used NEVR-DULL and it was pretty easy.
