2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

Note the pic of the Equus dash above in Gamedsy22's 8/27 post. Note the incredible amount of glare from the plastic wood. I dun like dat.

Totally agree, it wasn't even in direct sunlight which I'd think would be blinding since that was only the reflection from the flash on my phone. I really do like the stitched leather in our current Genny's vs. "wood".

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

That is the North America release, not sure for the Korean market but one would imagine it should be earlier. It's set to debut during the NAIAS (North American International Auto Show) which runs from January 18-26th in Detroit Michigan.

I actually think I remember hearing that the NAIAS debut will also be the global debut of the Genesis.

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

for the person who can't tell us more info...a simple yes or no would suffice:

1. Are we getting new engine options?
2. Are we getting a new transmission?
3. Are the dreaded rain sensing wipers come with a regular interval option?
4. Is the leather stitching different on the seats?

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

As the years click by on many models of cars, it seems manufacturers add one item (for better or worse) and take away two items.
I noticed that shiny plastic dash (passenger side) on a new Genny I got as a loaner. VERY distracting and totally cheap looking. Why in gawd's name would they ever cheapen a "luxury" car with shiny plastic vs the great looking leather insert.

All base models have the shiny plastic dash...premium and up get the leather...maybe you knew this...

Comparing spy photo of new Genesis interior to below 2014 Lexus IS, Genesis has long ways to go. It really looks outdated already! I love the Lexus' digital dash feature and design is so clean and modern!

I think it is a fair statement to say that most Genesis owners would DEMAND a leather dashboard for other than the base 2015 models. Hello, Hyundai.

While not exactly a sleek/modern design, keep in mind that Hyundai has to make the Genesis sedan appealing to its more conservative Korean buyers and the Genesis and IS appeal to different buyers (Genesis buyers being older).

The upcoming compact Hyundai sports sedan (the RK) should have a more dynamic dash design.

They could make it an available option for people that are interested. I think they could do that for the R-Spec option. They even put digital instrument cluster for 2014 Equus and that's probably aimed at even older age group. It's not unreasonable to think they could consider having more modern style interior for Genesis.

I don't think they will but I'm just hoping that final interior is more closer to the Lexus design than what we saw in the spy photos. ;)

Lexus IS is a smaller car that sells for the same if not greater money, that could be part of the equation btw.

Apples and oranges IMO

Re: 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

this is a great point. not too many people drive a car this big in korea. if anything, this would be a car to be driven in, like a black car service.

Good point but design doesn't necessarily have to cost more. It just need to have more modern and astatically pleasing design.

If this thing is still over 4200lbs it'll be another tank.

*two cents* keep the current 5.0, and drop 600lbs or more and turn it into a truly great driving car

I totally agree that shaving some weight on the car has it's benefits in handling etc. The problem is that the lighter the materials the more expensive the car will become, to take over 600lbs off the weight of a vehicle either requires them to cheapen up the current materials or introduce carbon fiber or other light weight metals.

For it's weight, all things considered it gets up and goes rather well....they can however increase the engine and transmission and steering performance which would give most drivers exactly what their looking for.

Can't see an automaker doing 2 separate designs for the dash/center stack (a digital instrument cluster is not the same) since it would be cost prohibitive.

Like I said, the Genesis has to appeal to an older market, as well as the more conservative Korean market.

Personally, I find the new dash design a bit on the bland side as well, but still an improvement over the current dash design which I really dislike.

Your best bet for a more sleek/youthful dash would be in the upcoming RK compact sedan or maybe the Kia GT if Kia brings it to production (note how the dash designs in the IS, GS and LS increasingly get more conservative).

Another choice would be the Kia K900 - which despite being a higher end model than the Genesis, seems to have a slightly better dash design (actually kinda similar, but w/ just a little more flair).

Actually I went ahead and purchased the 2014 IS350 F Sport. I was waiting for the new Genesis anxiously but seeing the interior photos of the spy car, it kind of let me down. Yes it's better than current model but that's not saying much.
