If Hyundai were able to sell the Genesis for more profit, they would. They can't ask anywhere near the money that Lexus, or the German brands are getting because most people would not chose to get a Genesis in that case.
While the Genesis has to be sold at value pricing, esp. since it doesn't offer (at least currently) the benefits of a luxury marque (separate luxury dealer network, luxury service such as loaner vehicles, etc.) and has to take a lower margin, they are making it up in volume.
April sales:
Genesis - 2,274
A6 - 1,619
GS - 1,001
And let's not forget that the A6 starts at $46,200 and the G80 by the time of its MCE should pass the $40k mark to start.
The A6 doesn't command the price premium of the 5 Series, much less the E Class.
I know I would be driving an Audi A6 if the prices were closer. I assume the Genesis for most people is a choice based on value for money, not because it's the better car than what the established luxury brands are selling.
Even if the prices were closer, still would rock this over the A6.

The G80 is going to have to step things up for the MCE or the next gen or else the Kia is going to steal some sales.
No doubt Audi makes fine autos, but the only ones that really stand out for me are the A7 and A3.
Nonetheless, I agree that there are bits of the interior of the Genesis that need upgrading to get closer to its competition (A6 and not the A8); had more of an issue w/ the interior of the 1G Genesis.
From everything that I had hear, the touch-points/switchgear of the G90 have gotten a significant improvement, so we'll probably see those bits trickle down to the G80.
But I'm going to bet that even with any of the improvements for the interior for the G80's MCE, the production version of the Kia GT will have the nicer interior.
As the Genesis lineup expands - we'll see less parts sharing with Hyundais as there will be enough models/volume for Hyundai to make separate and higher quality components for the Genesis models.
