  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2016 Genesis News?

That is extremely disappointing If the 2016 V8 loses the rear/side-rear shades and it may make me re-think my purchase. I have two young children that will be riding in the back seat and the shades are a nice feature. *sigh*

I mean you can still get the v6 if they're important features to you. plenty of power still, especially with kids riding along.

Oh, I didn't mean not buy a Genesis at all. Buying a 2016 V6 Ultimate may be back on the table for me as much as I want the V8.

I'd also consider trying to find a late build 2015 V8 Ultimate that hasn't sat on a lot for a year and then attempt to get it at considerable discount along with the extended warranty to cover the electronics.

Your kids would like the heated rear seats you can only get in the 3.8 AWD as well - and you'll like the heated steering wheel and still get the sunshades. As long as the V8 power is not a requirement for you!

Well honestly the side shades are manual and while they are very useful, they are easily obtained in the aftermarket. Aftermarket Sun Shades is the search phrase I used. There are even power rear window shades out there if you're looking. In any case, the 2016 is cheaper than the 2015 V8 Ultimate by more than a $1000, so perhaps some of that savings can be applied to sun shades.

Sorry, I misunderstood. But yeah, those are both great options too!

I'll stay home if it snows and the back seat passengers can just squint. I want the V8! :-)

New to the forum as well. Just purchased the 2015 Genesis 3.8 AWD with Prem, Tech, and Ultimate packages. Beautiful car.

I was not sure if I should wait on the 2016, or get a 2015 at an amazing close-out deal. Then a dealer gave me a 2016 brochure in error and that made my decision to jump into the 2015 very easy.

Turns out the only difference I could see between the two model years, is that one of the upgrade Packages on the 3.8 in 2016 adds the Fog Lights, which are only available on the 5.0 in 2015.

For me, it appears that dealers are very aggressively trying to move out the 2015 Genesis to make room for the 16s. It is a good deal at MSRP compared to other offers, but at a highly rebated and discounted price, it becomes a no-contest.

There's standard HID headlights on the 3.8 and the LED DRLs as well. Plus the idea of getting a car which may have some of the kinks mentioned on this form worked out behind the scenes.

You also missed out on LED DRL's and the 5 year /60K mile warranty on the electronics (only 3 yr/36k on the 2015) which are both new for 2016.

As I am sure Nikgen knows, but just for clarification, the new longer warranty terms on the infotainment electronics applies to all Hyundai vehicles starting in 2016 model year.

It also looks like the 2016 5.0 no longer has the upgraded suspension that was included in the 5.0 Ultimate package. So, the $900 price reduction is definitely an equipment reduction too.

There may be some errors in the latest document posted in this thread. On the 2016 brochure, there still is reference to the Continuous Damping Control Suspension as a feature of the 5.0 Ultimate Package on the 2016.

While the LED DRL's are nice, for many who lease, the 3/36 is enough and an HPP can be bought if the car is then purchased.

Just read that the 3.8 A.W.D. have dropped the Ultimate package? Saw it isn't so!
1. Where did you read that?
2. What country? AWD Ultimate will continue to be available in USA according to everything I have seen. Have no idea about Canada.

WRT the fog lamps, I called my dealer to inquire as to whether I would be able to order fog lamp assemblies and a switch for my 2015 3.8. I was told no. Has anyone heard different?

Driving to work this morning, I saw these five brand new Genisi on a car-hauler... interestingly they were headed in the wrong direction to have come from the port (they were headed south on the North side of LA, and the port is on the south side of LA.) but I snapped some pics anyway... I *think* they are 15's (they were mostly if not all 3.6's, and I see no fogs) but maybe some trained eyes on the forum can verify either way...

Your dealer is half right: you may not be able to order all of the needed parts through Hyundai USA - but you can get hem on eBay. Essentially, you need 3 parts to do an OEM install:
  1. The left/right fog light modules
  2. The stalk left side (blinker) copntrol stalk with the fog light switch (ie., the part from the NA 5.0 modle)
  3. The wiring harness for the from bumper

You can get all three of these parts on eBay. I got them form this guy with no hitches - delivered quickly:

lights and bumper harness:

stalk:

If you use the new bumper harness, it is plug an play, but the pins for the parking sensors need to be reordered to match the one in place (easy to do).

The details on what you need to do are in this thread:
http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=16596

Conversely - you could dissect the replacement harness and make a new subharness just to feed power to the fog lights and not touch the parking sensors at all (or even not have to remove the front bumper cover).

In these setups, you'll have full OEM functionality: the fog-light indicator will light on the dash board and the fog lights will turn off when your turn on your high beams (as required by law in some states). The lights switch will also "remember" it is on and the foglights will automatically come on with the headlights once you turn them on the first time (so you don't have to turn them on every time you enter the car), but you can manually turn them off with the switch (and the'y stay off and won't come on next time the headlights are turned on) if so desired.

The other option is to just get the fog lights and wire them to the fusebox directly - either with a switch (you'll need to run though the firewall and drill some holes to mount) or wire them to the headlights wiring in some fashion so they come on with the headlights (but won't turn off with high beams).

I prefer the OEM approach - you can easily do it all yourself. The only thing I did was to have the dealer install the replacement control stalk as you need to take the wheel off and I did not want to screw with the airbag (service manual also indicates special tools are needed).

Good Luck.
