I've started a thread over at XDA to see if we can get some more eyes to look at this.
2015 Genesis Ultimate Android Auto/Apple Carplay mod?
Bummer. Not a single hit that I can see - Seems like someone would like to take a crack at OEM tyranny....
It does work since the Koreans figured it out already as shown earlier in the threadSo just a recap. A 2017/2018 G80 9.2 DIS head unit and matching Amplifier would technically get you Carplay/Android Auto with sound but it isn't cheap.
Does anyone have any resources on finding salvaged/totaled Genesis G80 parts? I found a site called car-part.com but i've never used it.
It is showing a Genesis G80 Radios and Amplifiers between $70-150
Theoretically, there could be a software solution. Unfortunately, it's remained elusive despite earlier promising efforts...So just a recap. A 2017/2018 G80 9.2 DIS head unit and matching Amplifier would technically get you Carplay/Android Auto with sound but it isn't cheap.

One of us copped a working Ultimate H/U for cheap - the seller prob didn't realize the diff between it and the Android unit. The 'droid is usually WAY cheaper.... No one managed a cheap amp as of yet though.I saw the earlier videos and posts proving that it works. (Ps: Great work everyone!) Now it's the implementation portion of it which i'm getting stuck on. How to get the required parts and obtaining the installation steps.
I'm assuming that I'm in the same boat as others who want this additional functionality but not wanting to spend $2000+ on new OEM parts. I just have never played the salvaged/junk yard used car parts game so I'm just curious if anyone has a preferred site to get the DIS and AMP from a totaled 2017/2018 G80.

I think '17 is when it became available... If I remember correctly, the "old" head unit would boot with the newer software but no sound, because the "new" amp couldn't be found.I thought the 2017's still use the incompatible hardware, no? It wasn't until 2018's that the Ultimate Trims where Apple Carplay and Android Auto became commonplace.
Probably not - The non Ultimate has a 14 speaker setup, Ultimate has 17. It's likely looking for that amp to ID itself on the CAN Bus.Possibly a dumb question but do you need to pair a 2018 Ultimate Head unit with a 2018 Ultimate AMP? I know it's mandatory to have the Ultimate Head Unit because of the heads up display but would a lower trim (Non Ultimate) 2018 G80 Amp work?

Thanks!Won't work. Has to be the part number ending in -B1550 to communicate.
Unfortunately most of those same hands are required to keep critical systems humming along, while being stretched beyond their designed limits during these exciting times...Now that there should be some idle hands out there, who's going to pick up the ball on this again? I don't have any programming skill.
Unfortunate, but true.Unfortunately most of those same hands are required to keep critical systems humming along, while being stretched beyond their designed limits during these exciting times...
