  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 15, 2016 – Genesis today introduced the all-new 2018 Genesis G80 3.3T Sport trim, which will be on display at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The G80 3.3T Sport builds on the refined performance of the popular Genesis G80 and adds a powerful new 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine plus unique sport performance upgrades delivering improved driving dynamics and sport agility. In addition, distinctive styling elements and features visually differentiate the new 3.3T Sport from the rest of the enhanced Genesis G80 model line-up. The 2018 Genesis G80 is scheduled to arrive in the Spring of 2017.

“The G80 3.3T Sport reflects our continual commitment to provide drivers with compelling vehicles that meet their individual needs,” said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in the U.S. “By extending the G80 model line-up beyond the 3.8 and 5.0-liter engines, the 3.3T Sport expands G80’s range of pure performance capability and competitiveness within the mid-luxury sedan segment.”

The G80 Sport is powered by a 3.3-liter direct-injected, twin-turbocharged V6 engine boasting 365 horsepower, and is paired with a sport-tuned version of the same eight-speed automatic transmission equipped on both the 3.8 and 5.0 models. New shift-by-wire technology is standard on the Sport. In addition, the G80 3.3T Sport features an upgraded suspension system with continuous damping control to provide superior vehicle dynamics and ride compliance. An augmented rear brake set-up with ventilated rear discs brings the Sport to a halt to complete this confident and exhilarating driving performance package. Other interesting facts in the announcement (in addition to the 3.3 TT Sport Trim announcement) is that all G80's for 2018 will include the following:

  • Standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • All Genesis G80 trims, including the 5.0-liter, will be available with the choice of either RWD or AWD. (Up to now, the 5.0 has only been available in RWD in the USA).

According to the announcement, "The 2018 Genesis G80 is scheduled to arrive in the Spring of 2017." I presume that means all versions, including the 3.8 and 5.0, but not 100% sure.

You know what, SCREW them!!! When asked them if they planning to bring it to the US they said NO and I bought a V8. mofos

I have to agree. I also asked about the G80 Sport before I purchased the G80 Ultimate a couple months ago. I was told that there were no plans to introduce it into the US for at least "several years". I was told that if it was introduced, it would be after the G70 came out. The most optimistic timeline I was given for the G80 Sport release was Spring 2019, if at all. I would have put off the purchase of my G80 if I knew the Sport version was coming out this Spring. It is a sharp looking car. I am feeling a little betrayed at this point too.

Who did you guys ask? Was it a dealer? If so, you have no one to blame but yourself. Dealers in the USA are not owned by Hyundai, and they will say anything to increase current sales and move inventory.

How many times do we have to say it? Never believe what a dealer tells you. Never.

I asked the dealer at first and then sent an email to Genesis to see if they had any release dates. I was told the same thing by both. Satisfied?

Plans change... :)

Really cool, I like that they are using the full LED system in this.

Most people noted the adaptive suspension in the V8 to be either too harsh or too cushy...hopefully they're optimized the settings in this model

No, not satisfied. There is no way that Genesis Motors is going to give you a release date prior to when they are ready to make that information public. Unless they gave you bad info (such as it would definitely not be coming until 2019 or later model year) then Genesis Motors was perfectly correct to not give you confidential information in advance.

Even on the Genesis Launch Event, i was told that this model is NOT coming to the US.

Not ever coming? How would they know that?

Wow, looks nice. I really like the white sport with the black accents, looks aggressive but still classy. Good job Genesis, style is nice and the drive should be too with the 3.3's torque down low. I saw an interior pic floating around, the carbon dash trim looks great.

Shoot I was thinking about keeping my '15 when it comes off lease but now might have to see if I can work a deal on the '18!

People every day learn new words they haven't heard before. When I first started working in the I.T. department of a company many years ago - I used to go and help people fix their computers - "by turning them on". Or show people how to use the mouse - "by not holding it up to the monitor"... These things may sound ridiculous to some but we need to remember that what may be normal to us - may not have been learned yet by somebody else.

You kind of asked for Mark's next response...

Come on, man... Give the guy a break. He just signed up - give him a chance to get used to the crowd and how it can get a little rowdy around here from time to time. I'm seeing this from a bunch of us in other discussions lately and I've been keeping my mouth closed to allow for some freedom but if I don't eventually speak up this place is going to become the craphole many other forums are. Please, let's hold conversation to a higher standard around here the best we can...

I believe you but that just sounds crazy - that the "Sport" wouldn't come here. I'd have thought they were lying. I'm sure I'd have been just as anxious as you, however, and made my purchase too. And, yeah - I'd be a little aggravated as well...

Not ever coming? How would they know that?

I know. It IS crazy that they'd say this...

Believe it or not, I am trying to help people. Coddling people doesn't help them. Here is a summary of what people need to know to survive the car buying and owning experience throughout their lifetime:

1. Dealers in the USA are not owned by the manufacturer (or even importer). This is by law. The manufacturer may have some control over them, but not very much.

2. Never believe what a dealer tells you. Ever. Don't expect a salesman to know what Hyundai or Genesis Motors plans are. Salesman are not car enthusiasts, they are salesman who probably sold appliance not too long ago, and are just trying to make a living to pay the bills and feed their family.

3. Everything must be in writing. If the dealer tells you the time, don't believe it unless it is writing, and even then it is best to get verification from an independent source.

4. Even if someone at a dealer or the manufacturer actually knows what their future product plans are (which is questionable unless you are talking to the right person), they are not going to reveal plans that are confidential or information about unannounced products. If you ask them, don't be surprised if they don't tell the truth (even assuming they know the truth).

*I* know that but somebody who only just signed up here has no idea. You do come off as being pretty cranky from time to time. You're not the only one. I do it too. We're only human. But I try my best to catch myself.

You do come off as being pretty cranky from time to time.
I don't just "come off" as cranky, I am cranky. After 7 1/2 yeas and over 10,000 posts my crankiness shouldn't be a surprise when I have to say the same things over and over that anyone other than a first time car buyer should already know about.

Why do people expect to have a relationship with car salesman like they would with a priest or a doctor?
