If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

4.6 genesis headlight unit removal to change HID bulb

I just ordered 6000k bulbs and cant wait to get them installed.

has anyone done this? I'm trying to do it and can't seem to get the light assemblies out. The bolts come off and I can feel the assembly come off the clip but there doesn't seem to be enough room to get them out without removing the darn bumper?

I recently put 5000k in my headlights as well as my foglights. I also applied lamin-x 12% gunsmoke tint to my fogs to take away glare from the HIDs down there. I suggest doing this if you want ALOT more light on the road! I also VHT tinted the red on the tail lights but left the clear uptop untouched. I only did three coats and didn't black it out like most people do which allows to to be really glossy and almost looks OEM... It's more of a dark amber. It's definitely added some individuality to my 2010 4.6 Genny

Does your car have the tech package and did you remove the front bumper cover? If so how?

This is the closest I found for a thread describing what I want to do to my 2012.

Basically, what I'm trying to do is:

1 - Replace the HID bulb with another temperature that more closely matches the LED strip. Which matches it better: 5k or 6k? I hate the "blue" look, and the LED strip looks more 5k to me... but maybe someone here knows for sure? What bulb size is the HID?

2 - Same thing for the DRL bulb (make it match the LED, or at least get "closer" to that look). Halogens are fine. What color and what bulb size?

3 - Same with the fogs (see #2)

Thanks guys...

Can I do it from the engine bay?

Ok I have replaced all the bulbs your referring to !

First the HID replacement I went with the 6k because it matches the white that your going to get from LED bulbs the best ! HID BLUB TYPE (D1S) purchased on eBay for 26.99! You cannot change them without removing the headlight as they are bolted in!

The DRL's which are also your high beams are H7's

The fog lamps are H8's

I believe there is a right up already on here of how to remove the headlight if not I will take some photos tom. And post a step by step! It's not difficult at all just have to loosen the bumper cover to get them off ! no special tools needed

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm good to go - went to the HMA site and downloaded the schematics... all I needed to know was what bulbs to buy. Thanks again!

Funny... have a leftover H7 from the car I traded in... Any particular color on those H7's and H8's? Ultra White? Or a particular brand and type you used?

Looks like both the H7 and H8 are 55w...

And... pics?!?!?! I would *LOVE* to see what your lights look like at night. ;)

i didn't use any particular bulb just purchased them on ebay from a US seller that way if i had any issue i could get replacements right away!

i will say this because i replace the DRL's with LED's and they are alos the brights for the car they look great but as brights dont work very well but since the projector headlights work so well ill deal with it!!

That looks great! You replaced the highs with an LED bulb? What about the fogs?

OSRAM makes a 65W H7 bulb at 2100 lumens. Do you think that would do any damage to the wiring? I rarely use my high beams and when i do it's usually less than a minute. The stock bulbs are a joke. I guess they use them for their long life.

Can you post pics of your car, please?

Removal
1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
2. Loosen the mounting bolts(3EA) of head lamp. Remove the head lamp assembly(A) after disconnecting the lamp connectors.

USE FIRST PICTURE

Take care that retaining clip (A) is not to be damaged.

USE SECOND PICTURE

Has anyone done this successfully? I took out the 3 screws and the headlight wiggles but i cant get it out. Are there any additional steps i need to take?
