If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

AC Issues in Rain

I'll start by stating that I love my 2018 Genesis G80 Sport! One of best cars I've ever owned with one exception.

This is probably the strangest (and most annoying car issue I've ever experienced). It's happened 3 times in the past year, so I've pretty much figured out when it will happen, but with 3 trips to the dealership, they have yet to come up with a solution.
I posted about this last year when it first happened and have video evidence of the issue. Despite calls to the corporate engineers, (they are currently looking at the issue, but so far no solution and I can't believe I'm the only one having this issue.

My car is normally garaged and the AC works fine. However, on two long road trips, after the car sat outside in the rain for a weekend while travelling, the AC will work normally until about an hour into the drive, and then something (a flap, a baffle, main AC vent, or something) freezes up and almost NO air gets into the cabin. As stated previously, you can hear the fan roaring somewhere deep in the bowels of the car, BUT NO AIR IN CABIN. The last time (3rd time) it happened, I had driven from my home and all was fine. It began to lightly ran and, in the course of an hour, the AC simply stopped delivering air into the cabin!

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. Love the car, but don't want a car that I can't drive in rain or summer. I'm no AC expert, but surely someone out there can at least figure out this cause. The morning after each event, there is a ton of water on the garage floor (much more than normal) which would again indicated something in the system massively froze up. Of course, by the time it gets to a dealer, it's working just fine and they can't recreate. Thankfully video shows the issue. Genesis corporate engineers are working on it...just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.
I agree
..love the car but exact same issue. Long trip car air sounds like a window is open and vent open flapping noice and hot. Hapoened so far 4 times and no answer. Just happened on long trip... hope when bring in fixable.

There should be an evaporator temperature sensor that would turn the compressor off when the evap temperature gets near freezing to prevent evaporator freeze up. Perhaps that sensor has failed.

Wow, how tronic.I just drove from Jersey to Florida Tuesday and experienced exactly the same thing with my 2019 G80 Sport. Called Cocoa Beach Genesis from S Carolina and they scheduled me for 8AM Wednesday service. Discover Tuesday night that if I turned off the AC for awhile, it would work fine for about an hour than crap out. As stated, lots of air noise inside the dash with small amounts leaking out the vents.

Wednesday morning I explain everything to Morgan, she has a Tech do a check and everything is working fine, as expected. Hence, since they can't replicate there's no code for a repair WO. Great response from Genesis of Coca Beach. Just as well, didn't want my dash ripped out 1100 miles from home.

Going to turn it over to my Dealer, next week I'm scheduled for a 24K Service.

I am at the dealer they are telling me it is a dirty cabin air filter. I don't thing it is the problem. This is the second time it has been in the shop for the same issue. Any way to check the evaporator temperature sensor?

Did you see the filter? It can cause or at least contribute to the problem. It is also an easy out if the don't know the real problem.

I did see the filtering was dirty and if that fixes it its great. I just don't think that is the problem as it only does it in cooler humid temperatures. If it was air flow blockage shouldn't it do it all the time. The A/C line where the Guage hook up is had about 1/2 of ice around it when I brought it in.

Prime conditions for it to occur. Humid air increases condensation considerably. Low refrigerant will cause it too and they should have checked it.

Next time it happens try turning the fan to highest setting and let us know what comes out of the vents. I'm suspecting a faulty valve or valve control that regulates flow through the evaporator.

The air flow was almost non-existent through any of the vents including rear, defrost, dash, floor, etc. It sounded like all the air was exhausting behind the dash to the right of the stack in the area behind the left side of the Glove Box. Putting the system in manual and selecting the outlets didn't change anything (with fan at maximum).

I've had (verified) evaporator freeze ups on a couple of other cars before. I didn't get any snow flakes with either. (Just to say that not having them does not disprove freeze up.)

Before you get no or very little air coming out the vents are there any little "snow flakes" ?
No snowflakes, only thing I noticed was the interior temperature was getting uncomfortable.

Only thing you can do at that point is shut off the AC and wait. If some air is getting by it will help melt the ice faster.

Just picked up a G80 Sport today. Same issue on the 6 hour drive home. I about died from heat stroke. Fan is full blast, blowing out somewhere behind the glove box area. Maybe 5% of that A/C is leaking out the front vents.

I noticed the following literally 5 minutes before I got home and it was at least a workaround. Not sure how consistently it will work:

When the issue happened for a third time, I set my driver side to something cool (67 I think), then set passenger side to something much higher (76 I think). I heard the air start to reroute and it started blowing out my driver side vents again (though passenger wouldnt be getting anything). So a possible band-aid for the time being...

What year is this car?

MIne did it again on a 2 hour trip. When I contacted the dealer they said they had no idea and there wan nothing they could do until it was not working all the time. A real shame to have a car that you have to limit your trips to under an hour. There is no (very little) air coming from any of the vents when it happens. I am running mine on 68 degrees Auto with it both sides synced. I will have to try the changing temps on the passenger side. Does anyone know of a setting that would keep it from happening in the first place. I am with WPB I am starting to believe it is something to do with the air flow valves across the evaporator. The Low Pressure Line under the hood was completely encased in ice when I stopped. I have filed a case with Genesis to see if we can get some resolution.

Did they check for proper charge? That is one possible reason. Low air flow from a damper not fully open or clogged cabin filter. Higher than normal humidity and not able to get rid of the condensation.

I run mine the same but at 72.

The reason air flow stops is the coil freezing over. Also be sure your drain is not clogged.

I would have assumed they checked the charge. They said they put gauges on it and it was fine. I am assuming the checked the drain. When it is melting after driving it water is dripping out. I live on the Texas coast so high humidity is our weather.
