AC Issues in Rain

Maybe this can help you guys get the issue resolved.

Here's the Repair Order that seems to have fixed the issue on my 2019 G80. I've put about 2250 miles (a few sustained highway runs) since this repair and the AC has worked like a new car! Oh wait, it is a new car.

Car has about 28K on the odometer now. Note that there is a Case Number listed as well as the part that was replaced.

I currently drive a 2018 Genesis G80 Sport with roughly 32,000 miles on it. This is the fourth Genesis that I have owned, so I consider myself a loyal customer. I love the car, but the same AC problem that is mentioned here has caused me to question whether I will lease another one in December 2020, which is when my lease is over. I have had my G80 in the shop on at least 4 different occasions because the AC stops blowing or barely at all. It always happens on a long trip. Genesis has had their corporate team inspect the car and the car has been to two different dealerships. We take trips from Georgia to Florida in the Summer, so needless to say, it is very hot and humid. The car's AC has gone out every single time and I've told the dealership and Genesis Corporate that we no longer will take this car because of the AC's reliability issues. Nevertheless, Genesis Corporate tells me there is nothing that they can do because they cannot replicate the problem. Interestingly, the dealership in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida told me that they have seen several G80's with this problem, but they cannot replicate the problem, so Genesis will do nothing to correct it. Also, a salesperson at the Genesis dealer also has a G80 and he said he had the exact same problem as me and others in these comments and Genesis will not do anything because it can't be replicated. I feel that with this many people in this forum, the dealership's customers and the Genesis salesperson having the same problem, Genesis knows that there is an issue, but will not admit it because they do not want the cost of a recall. I would love to get the new G80, but I am confident that will not happen because of Genesis's response to this AC problem that all of us are having. Very simply, I expect better from this company that is trying to compete with BMW and Mercedes.

Of course they can't replicate it, they take it for a three mile ride, not a couple of hundred.
I printed out a copy of Speeder's paperwork to take to the dealer if it happens again. Never happened on my 2015 and for 23,000 miles never happened on my 2018 but it was uncomfortable when it did a couple of weeks ago. Only solution I found was to shut the ac off for 15 minutes and it was OK once the outdoor temperature went up.

Following this thread as well. Had it happen to me twice in the past couple weeks, both on longer drives. The first time it was warm and not raining during the day. The second (last week) was night time when it was trying to rain. My fix for both was to turn the A/C off for a bit and run with the windows down for 15 minutes or so.

Since the repair shown in my previous post I've taken a couple of 200+ mile "runs" in the Northeast and no further issues. Now at 29K on the odometer.

I bet would still be the AC evaporator thermistor (temperature sensor).

I am driving to FL from MI. Same problem.AC stops working after about 20 minutes. Turn it off for 15 minutes and turn it back on and it works again. Does Genesis know cause yet?

See post #61. Print it out and take it to the dealer. I only had it happen on one trip after about 150 miles at around 70 to 74 degrees. Never happened in higher temperatures, the day before I drove over 800 miles and it was 90 degrees or so.

Update to Post #61: AC continues to operate fine with no further issues, odometer is >33K now.

Here’s the bad news. I had the part that was identified in post #61 put in and it seemed to work. Now, 3 months later, the problem has Re-occurred. Makes me want to sell my 16 month old car.

I replaced the AC evaporator thermistor (temperature sensor) 2 months ago.
no further issues.

I'll start by stating that I love my 2018 Genesis G80 Sport! One of best cars I've ever owned with one exception.

This is probably the strangest (and most annoying car issue I've ever experienced). It's happened 3 times in the past year, so I've pretty much figured out when it will happen, but with 3 trips to the dealership, they have yet to come up with a solution.
I posted about this last year when it first happened and have video evidence of the issue. Despite calls to the corporate engineers, (they are currently looking at the issue, but so far no solution and I can't believe I'm the only one having this issue.

My car is normally garaged and the AC works fine. However, on two long road trips, after the car sat outside in the rain for a weekend while travelling, the AC will work normally until about an hour into the drive, and then something (a flap, a baffle, main AC vent, or something) freezes up and almost NO air gets into the cabin. As stated previously, you can hear the fan roaring somewhere deep in the bowels of the car, BUT NO AIR IN CABIN. The last time (3rd time) it happened, I had driven from my home and all was fine. It began to lightly ran and, in the course of an hour, the AC simply stopped delivering air into the cabin!

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. Love the car, but don't want a car that I can't drive in rain or summer. I'm no AC expert, but surely someone out there can at least figure out this cause. The morning after each event, there is a ton of water on the garage floor (much more than normal) which would again indicated something in the system massively froze up. Of course, by the time it gets to a dealer, it's working just fine and they can't recreate. Thankfully video shows the issue. Genesis corporate engineers are working on it...just wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

We have the same issues with 2018 G80. Dealership has no clue.

Same thing has been happening to us recently. We drove north in Florida for 4 days and it happened repeatedly. As if the "flapper" gets frozen or stuck.....slowly the air stops going to the dash vents and the fan speed increases to the point of whistles and bumps come from the glove box area. We shift from auto to a/c to off repeatedly and it will some times start working correctly. Going in monday to be looked at by King Genesis.

It's not a flapper or door that it getting stuck. It's the evaporator that is freezing over and blocking all airflow.

I remember many years ago (I’m old) when the evaporator would freeze up, vapor fog would blow out the vents. Rather than waiting for the ice to melt, I’d just switch on the heat. That would melt the ice fast, then turn the a/c back on.
