  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The Auto Emergency Braking system on my 2015 Genesis RWD sedan does not appear to be working as intended. An initial warning message comes on when the car is dangerously close to the vehicle in front, however no automatic braking appears to take place. Are there adjustments to the "distance control" which can be made, or perhaps are the distance sensors defective?

What you determine as dangerous may be no where near the necessity of required braking. I have a feeling you think it should brake but the car knows it is not yet required. In other words, it is playing chicken with you and you are loosing. :D

That being said, there are no adjustments or tweaks to allow you to win the chicken game.

I've had the system flash the warning at least 6 times over the past month, some times I am sure it will warn me but it doesn't and at times where I don't deem it dangerous it warns me. It all depends on the change in speed of the vehicle in front of you, even if doesn't appear dangerous. Never had it break for me though.

AEB is a two-step system. First is the warning which is intended to get YOU to brake. Then, if you don't and you get closer, it will brake on its own. In my experience, it has braked twice for legitimate situations where something happened unexpectedly. That said, once it braked I was right on top and took over. VERY startling and impressive to say the least. I get the warning much more frequently and most of the time ignore it as I am aware of what is going on.

I have had it brake twice in stop and go traffic when I didn't get my foot on the brake fast enough. Once it detects a foot on the brake, it turns it over to the driver to complete the stop. There is not necessarily any warning in advance; it simply jams the brake on at the last minute and the gives both a sound and a display indication..

If you actually hit the car or object in front of you, then you know it's not working, but since you haven't hit anything yet, it's still working.

The AEB system is a multi step system. Read below. I have also noticed that at a point between the "Caution" warning and just before the "Emergency Braking" kicks in, the seat belts tighten up. Nice to know they thought of that as well. It also tightens up the passenger seat belts as well. This kicks in based on just how close you are to the vehicle in front of you.

Basically if u press the brake then it wont do it for u anymore

Thanks for posting the appropriate manual pages as I learned something new. I thought the sensor was behind the large flat plate on the front grill however it is a camera up behind the rear view mirror which controls the system. This is the area that needs to be kept relatively clean if you do not want error messages.

Where in that manual posting above does it say the camera is behind the rear view mirror? Did I miss that in those posted pages?

Read the warning part on the second page and you will conclude it is a camera.

It's actually uses both - a camera and radar data which are combined to sense and activate the AEB system.

Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) System
2015 Genesis will be the first Hyundai to offer AEB, utilizing sensor fusion technology to both reduce collision severity or avoid collisions altogether.
— AEB reduces collisions, property damage and injuries
— Vehicle employs automatic braking when it detects a slower or
stopped vehicle ahead
— This system utilizes the Smart Cruise Control system (radar) as well
as the camera from the Lane Keep Assist

Thanks for the clarification. ;)

While I think this is a great step forward, are there other systems that do more? I think I read that the Volvo system can brake for pedestrians, etc. It sure would be nice if it could handle that. Any one aware of what else is out there?

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.
