  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Alternatives to G70?

Agreed there is an assumption of built in Germany that just doesn't really exist any longer. It'd be interesting to see how many people know how many of their cars are built there. That said you'd think with how many they make now they'd be getting pretty good at it. ;-)

Really it can be made in Mexico just fine, it's the QC that the brand allows at the factory that matters. If they are diligent as a brand then it could be made pretty much anywhere and have the level of build they want out of it.

The digital gauge cluster is a meh item there for sure. Almost feels like they have a half measure in there just to have the checkbox on the feature list.

Seriously. I find it interesting that both Mercedes (a class sedan) and BMW have moved some of their NA production to Mexico. Most people buy those brands because they want imported German engineering, and they expect top notch quality (and rightfully so).

Also agreed on the options making it cost ridiculously more than the G70. Sure, the M340i is 56k starting, but with even half the options of the G70 then you're looking at over 60k, easily.

Yep.. . I will bet that it will be close to 70k after all equal options are added. If I buy a car or truck with a 3 at the beginning of the VIN.. I think that a discount is immediately warranted.. That's just me but some don't care.

I didn't realize the m340i was already revealed. That front end looks hideous especially at the 3/4 and side view, the kidney grille just ruins it. For some reason the 330i looks better, must be the simpler grill styling. A bit shocking to see without the camo tbh. The front ends of the e36/46/90/f30 aged well and were classics, sad to see they ruined it so badly with the g20.

I'll just wait for the G70, even if the new m340i drove much better I would feel pain walking up to it every day and wincing at that front end.

Agree on the front. Not as bad as Bangle...but gross.

Oh dang, I didn't know it was already revealed wither. Man.... That front end almost looks Stinger-esque.

Wahp wahp. 🤮

3 series is nice, but it's $60s easily compared to the up trim 3.3T G70. And no ventilated seat option at all.
It's even worse in Canada. When building online the lowest I could get a 340i xDrive to was $68,651 before taxes and freight. That was with the cheapest interior options available, no M package, no CarPlay and it still would have been missing options the G70 has. You will eclipse the $70,000 mark before freight and tax when you add the options you want that the G70 has.

I'm starting to consider a 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature instead of waiting for G70s to be discounted. The size will come in handy with our dog, and the new 2.5T engine is supposed to be fun. They are also comparably equipped to a Sport G70 2.0T for ~10k less.

I've been following and wanting a G70 for over a year now, but the dealers still aren't really budging on price. Talk me out of the CX-5!

Is a few grand really gonna kill the deal for you? Especially spread out over time. That was my thinking. What will truly give you goosebumps every time you take a gander...or step inside. Yeah...thought so ;)

If I got the G70, it'd have to be a 3.3, and the best out the door deal I've gotten on an Advanced is ~ $48k. I tested a 2.0 and it seemed laggy and meh. I can get the CX-5 Signature (top trim), for ~$38,500 out the door.

Kind of hard to compare a CUV to the G70, but my wife has a Mustang, so a larger'ish car will come in handy. If I could get an Advanced for low 40s out the door, I'd bite, but it doesn't look like that'll be anytime soon, especially after winning all of these awards. I also currently have a 2014 Genesis Coupe, and some of the recent issues I've had (such as rain leaking behind taillights into the spare tire wheel well and further into the backseat floorboard) have turned me off from Hyundai.

Mazda's look nice.
A couple of years ago, I test drove a CX-9 and was totally unimpressed with the drive. The interior was nice. The infotainment was blah.
It never shifted power to the rear under heavy acceleration. The front always chirped from a stop and that pissed me off cause I wanted a decent performing AWD.
I think they reprogrammed the AWD this year and allowed it to shift more to the rear but it didn't feel very Zoom Zoom to me!
And G-Vectoring does not add to vehicle dynamics!

Was it the 2.5T? This is the first year they've put it into the CX-5 (previously in the CX-9 and Mazda 6), so it has 310 lbs of torque.
I'm going to test one today or tomorrow. I'm expecting to be underwhelmed after a 350hp Genesis Coupe, but maybe I'll be surprised.

Yep. With 325 pound feet of torque.

Definitely want those veneted seats for those cross desert trips to Arizona and Las Vegas.

I hope there’s an option to display at least a facsimile of traditional round guages.
There is on the G70. Looks pretty similar to the ones the 2019 has.

I really want a g70 badly but like others have said I fee like the prices are just too high for a 3.3, genesis really messed up the price point asking high 6 low 700s for leases
