If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Anybody buy new 18" tires for their Genesis Sedan yet?

Wow ... suprised no one has chimed in with my two choices yet:

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

No Michelin fans here? Have had both on previous cars and can't imagine doing anything other than those... both are available in 235/50/18 at around $250/tire.

Cheers,
Dave

I bought new tires back in May. Sumotumo HTR ZIII. Best tire I've ever own, but anything is better then the Factory Dumcraps. I used to be a big Michelin fan, but found they were overpriced and didn't handle up to my standards so the Sumotumo's are fantastic. $713 out the door.

Conti DWS tires have been on for about 1K miles. So far 100% love them. Just took an all interstate 150 mile round trip and the car was much quieter, rode better and handled great. If any change in mileage, it is minor. (<1 mpg if at all) The car is no longer a bucking bronco over dropoffs in the road, but is still firm. The wife has driven the car in the rain several times. She loves them too. Dunlops went 30K miles, nearly at wear bars on the front, and we hope to get at least that many from the Conti's. No snow yet and so can't comment on traction in snow. Price was just over $800/4 mounted, balanced and including taxes and fees from a local dealer - 1st quoted slightly less but I think they screwed up the pricing. I jumped on the deal since he was still much cheaper than other stores. Let's face it, all 18" tires will cost you $$$'s.

I started this forum and last week it was my time to buy new tires. The original Dunlap tires were worn out at only 26,000 miles. Thanks to the advice of many, I bought the Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires and I'm thrilled. They actually make a big difference in handling, ride comfort and road noise. I didn't realize tires could make that much difference. The DWS tire also has a 50K mile tread warranty.

So far I've read about how great the Continental Extreme Contact DWS are, but several have said they have the 235/50/18 & others have the 245/45/18, which are better for the 8 cyl?

I replaced the OEM Dunlops almost immediately with Michelin Pilot Sport Plus AS and they are a great tire and improved the ride tremendously.

I just bought and installed another set of wheels and Yokohama W Drive winter tires and they ride better in dry conditions than the Michelins although they are a bit noisier.

I kept my winter tires in the stock size for my 2011 4.6 since I live in the Toronto (Mississauga) area and we don't get that much snow in the winter although that may not be the case for this winter!

I just had to replace my Dunlaps this weekend, 34K miles, if it weren't the coming of winter, I figure another 4k out of them. Anyway, I just got 4 new Falken 912s, they handle great and the ride quality is better than the OEM. Total for installation and high speed balance was $675.00.
I am pleased with my decision.

I just had Continental DWS tires installed. I can't believe that changing the tires could make this much difference. Much less road noise. Much smooooother. I don't feel like the steering wheel is fighting me any more. The Genny had always pulled to the right.

I went to order the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 235/50/18 and Tirerack says they are on backorder and they expect to get them in in 9 weeks.

Must be a helluva tire.

I don't need tires for a while on my 4.6, but I always keep on eye on pricing and reviews and just wanted to comment on the Continentals not being available on Tire Rack. I have been dealing with Discount Tire quite a bit lately, and they have the DWS in stock (at least according their web site). Just a heads up if you haven't looked there. And I believe they have a store in the Austin area. Good luck.

I got the staggered set for my BMW from Tread Depot. They had stock last month. Their price was a little better than Tire Rack and they had them on BO for ever. Hopefully you can get them somewhere. The set on the BMW totally changed the car. It is now quieter and smoother than it has ever been.

The Continental Contact Extreme DWS has been on back order for several months and with all the back orders to be filled availability of this tire could be April.
It's a good thing no one had to replace a tire as I would guess you would have had to purchase a new set from a different manufacturer.

I waited 10 weeks for my Contis, and let me tell you, these tires are *much* quieter than the stocks. Gone is that "highway howl"

I am glad that you finally got them. They are quieter than the Dunlop's and you should notice a difference in the way they ride. Out of all fairness to the Dunlop's which is an Ultra High Performance tire. The Continental Conti Extreme DWS is a Grand Touring Tire which in most cases will be a quieter and softer riding tire than an Ultra High Performance Tire. This is one of the reason why Hyundai put Continental Grand Touring tires on the 19" wheels of the Equus and you may see a Grand Touring Tire or Passenger tire on the 18" wheels of the 2012 Genesis. The R Spec will keep the Ultra High Performance Tire because it will be more tuned for sport and performance making the Genesis 3.8 and 4.6 more Luxury Performance.
I am riding on the Michelin Energy Saver A/S 235-50-18 97V which I really like. I just decided that a V speed rated tire that was not an Ultra High Performance Tire worked better for me.

Hi MHT, have you owned a set of of the Contis prior? I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts of the Energy Saver vs. the Contis.

After only owning car for 3 days I made decision today to dump the Dunlops and installed a set of Bridgestone Turanza Serenity's with the special balancing. Got a great deal with $560 out the door including tax.

Very good tires and very very good in the rain.

I see a lot of posts on here about replacement tires being quieter, smoother, etc. But I don't see anybody mention how the grip is. I personally am impressed by the grip the Dunlops afford in dry, and even in wet weather (definitely discounting snow). How do these replacement tires stack up in that regard?

Subjectively speaking, the Conti ExtremeContact DWS is equivalent in the dry as the Dunlop, though to be fair, one person on the board mentioned he thought the Dunlops were better in the dry. I'm waiting to try them in the rain, but um, well, we haven't exactly been getting a lot of rain in Texas as of late :-(. I'll post an update as soon as I get more info.

When comparing the Continental ExtremeContact DWS with the OE Dunlop SP Sport 5000M on Tirerack, the Conti wins in every way.

Hmm... according to Tirerack, the Conti ExtremeContact DWS is an Ultra High performance All-Season tire as well.

My observation is that the tires do not really affect the suspension issues, for those who have issues, but if you could imagine hitting the bottom of a dip in V as opposed to a U. The difference in hitting the ground with a metal hammer or a rubber hammer. The disconnect I was feeling with Dunlops is now gone.
