  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto NOT coming to Ultimate Genesis (2015, 2016)

likely just pulling named PIDs (Parameter IDs) from the ODB mappings in the ECU. no different than if you plugged in one of these:

DASHLINK, OBDII DIGITAL GAUGES, APPLE iOS/ANDROID

Consolidate Your Gauges on OBDII Vehicles with the Edge Insight CTS - StangTV

I'm fairly certain they're triggered from the radio directly. It even has a specific harness connector on the back of the radio. As to whether or not it's able to be modified we don't know yet. For instance, at one point it was supposed to be able to display street names, BSD arrows, track identification, etc.

the parts I like best on the HUD are the BSD and the turn by turn. Do any of your links do all that?

not sure what you are asking? are you asking if an aftermarket device can provide those features in a non-HUD vehicle?

There are 2 sets of ODB PIDs, Industry Standards and Manufacturer Specific.

Industry standards are things like Speed, temps from various modules in the vehicle, transmission gear, etc.

Customs would be like what you are describing. the BSD is transmitting on the CanBus, as is LKA, also auto-braking, front and rear parking monitors, etc.

The Turn by Turn is likely coming across the data network as ASCII directly from the radio

I guess I was just asking if the things I liked on the HUD could be provided by the links you provided. From your answer I still cannot tell if the answer is a yes, no or I don’t know.

turn by turn, not likely

BSM alerts will likely be dependent on the device and it's support for a given make/model.

As the owner of a 2015 Ultimate and a software developer, I would be interested in taking a stab at it as well. Do you have the 2015 and 2018 images?

Thank you!

Not quite an image but if you just want to look at the system files, Sub has zipped the partitions up from the 2018 in the other thread.

Another way to do this is to see if we can take apart the updater USB and inject the mods there. It'll be more friendly for everyone who doesn't want to take their dash apart to get at the SSD. It can be installed as an update.

One more concern is how this will affect the factory navigation. I'm sure we're not all running the same version. I haven't updated mine since 2016 and I only paid for the update to get 3D maps. For example, if we did the hacks on V13, I may lose my factory nav because my SD card has V10 maps.

I would think that the map data would have it's own partition/file... although I could be wrong.

Nah, the slot is labeled SD Map and I can't enter navigation without the card inserted. Back when I first did the upgrade, I copied the contents of the new card to the old one and the old one didn't work. Gave me the same errors so there's some kind of copy protection in play here.

Either the copy protection check needs to be removed from the firmware and the correct maps be made available for download or we buy the SD card from Map n Soft. I'd opt for second option as it's more "legal" but it also has issues. What if they no longer sell the version you need? This might be one of those situations where you get it working and never update it again... lol

Also wondering why the firmware is so big if the maps are on the SD...

I have version 13.5 and just for the sake of knowing I put my v12 SSD into the unit and it still reads the maps without issue, firmware and map data doesn't seem to be related. It will read the older map data with the newer firmware.

HOWEVER

That is not to say that somewhere between the first version in 2015 and the newest MapNSoft didn't make some change that requires some minimum level of the map data to be present.

I saw this behavior with the Chrysler DVDs, anything above version 5 (version AE in their lingo) could only read map data above version 5, (i.e. versions AE through AM were interchangeable), but version 4 (AD) and below could only read versions 1-4 (AA through AD).

If you put an AD disc into a unit that had AE or above it would error, and if you put anything above AE into a unit with AA-AD, it would force an upgrade making AA-AD discs invalid.

the best thing would to include the current version of the map data with whatever hack/modification is made, and as I said before, structure the version number so it is offset from the normal version sequences so that one could use a normal MapNSoft SSD to upgrade back to the "OEM" version if one needed to.
