If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Audio problem

TimeOut

I was at the dealer today and I was advised that a fix is in the works for this audio problem. We will have to wait until the solution has been thoroughly tested before we can get the fix installed.

From your lips to God's ears. But I don't believe it. This problem has been around for quite a while and Hyundai still has not addressed the issue properly. There will be no fix imho.

Question for Timeout. If I get into the menus will I be able to reset the head unit? I was having the "surround sound being unchecked issue" and got a new head unit last week. The surround sound issue was corrected. Now, when I make a phone call using voice commands, the system won't repeat the name I'm calling. Example, I say "call John Smith mobile". The system will repeat to me "call mobile". Before I replaced the head unit it would repeat, "call John Smith mobile". I'm thinking of doing a reset myself. If it works it beats a trip to the dealer to diagnose, another trip to repair, and a possible 6 week wait for yet another head unit.

Time Out
Thank you for finding this fix for the Tech version. I have a 2012 premium 3.8, and have had my head unit computer changed out twice at the dealership. They say the only way to fix this is to take it out and send it back to the lexicon. Is there a way to go in and do a softwear reboot with the touch screen version? I think you would make a lot of people happy if you found a way around this one.:)

To reboot the head unit, you go to the "Diagnostics" submenu, select "Reset Component" and then select "Head"

After I got my head unit replaced last year, I noticed quite few changes to the software. One of those changes was the voice command confirmation when doing phone calls. Voice Command no longer repeats the name you are calling. Clearly Hyundai (or Lexicon) decided to remove this feature for some reason. My guess would be that there were complains about how the system was pronouncing non-English names in the contact list or something along those lines. Somebody with the old voice command system could try testing this using few foreign funny names ;)

Sorry but I'm not familiar with the touch screen head unit. I don't know if that unit has a service menu.

I know on the Tech package you have the ability to turn on or turn off voice cammand repeats.....unless this has been changed after 2009 models. I usually have the repeat on, just so I don't have to back track, but it seems the system always receives my commands correctly, so I should probably turn it off.

I found your info on rebooting the head unit and tried it. I assume the Head Unit is HU on the list of commands.

My dealer confirmed the voice command didn't repeat the name but it did repeat the words work and mobile. They immediately ordered another head unit for me. The unit they tested was actually my second head unit, They got #2 for me because the original wouldn't maintain the surround sound setting after you turned the engine off. I sincerely hope head unit #3 repeats the names. I love that feature and will miss it dearly. Timeout does your voice command repeat the words "mobile" and "work"?

One software change I noticed was in the car settings menu. My second head unit has two vehicle height settings on it. They don't work but they appear in the car settings menu now. If I recall correctly my car didn't have that before. I could be wrong.

You're right. The option under the "reset component" submenu is called "HU" not "Head".

My voice command only says "calling". Those extra words "mobile" or "work" are picked up from the contact list and I would have to check why mine isn't including those. Scottdk says there is an option to disable voice command repeats. I'll search for this option.

To change those settings back to what you originally got in your old Head Unit, go to the Full ENG menu, navigate to: "Variant -> System Variant Settings". Then, you disable "ECS Height", "ECS Suspension" and enable "Steering Easy Ac." and "Seat Easy Access".

The height and suspension settings have some nice icons when you click on them. Timeout, we need to figure out how to get the system to repeat the name of the number we're calling. I noticed we have the option to reset the RSE, DMB, AQS, and PGS. I'm guessing those are not related to repeating the names.

A tech at my dealership told me some replacement head units are rebuilds and some are new. Not sure if that's accurate but I'm hoping my new head unit on order does the names again. Please let me know if you can figure this one out.

Note the vechicle suspesion and height info on the attached pic. Those are hidden settings most of us never see.

Timeout:

On another thread titled "Voice Dialing from Phonebook" somebody else noticed that the replacement head units also remove the compass and XM channel indicator from the small center display. Can you help us get that back?

Thanks again for all you help.

hello all

i have a 2009 genisis sedan 3.8 tech package. i have had the same audio problem with everything going dead about 5 times now. hyundai have replaced my head unit 5 times and usually with a "re-furbished" head unit which i think is wrong. i am now concerned that my car is out of warranty period i believe for this problem and i am trying to have hyundai canada make good on this problem for as long as it happens or i own the car. i too love the car in general but i will not get handed a 1500.00 bill each time this piece of crap system fails. i feel sorry for all of you who are having these troubles but it gives me hope knowing i am not alone here, the local dealer says they have never had this issue before, ya right! i will need to bring this forum to thier attention.

fyi. my wife also has the 2010 genisis coupe 3.8 gt and has not had any problems other than a bad seam on an A piller (passenger side) that caused the carpets to get soaked inside and mouldy. as i right this and think about it that is a pretty significant problem! the dealer put some epoxy sealer on the seam and it seems to have stopped.

thanks
kent

Wow I think 5 head units is a record. I'm on my fourth. Everything seems to work now but I swear that the radio sound quality become poor with the last two head units. Supposedly i got a new head unit right from the factory this time.

The dealer downloaded my head unit info and sent it to the engineers but nobody can fix it. They know something is wrong but I'm not sure if they realize it is the sound quality or not. At this point I just want the good radio quality that others with this car have. The other problems I've had i.e. no name repeat and surround sound staying checked seem to be resolved.

I wish I were an audiophile or I could get one of you guys to listen to my radio for a few minutes to judge the sound quality.

No AUDIO!! Just happened again. I really hate this problem. I think Hyundai must know that there is an issue here. I hope a fix arrives. I'm a loyal fan but blind (deaf?) loyalty isn't my bag. I will check with the service center at my next oil change but after reading this thread I don't expect much especially if I arrive and the system is working. Hyundai has to know about this and they should provide a fix.

It seems the fix has finally arrived. Check out brand new TSB 12-BE-012 at http://www.hmaservice.com

Thanks TimeOut! We all knew that they were aware of the problem. Lets hope that the fix cures the problem without introducing other issues (kind of like the list of crap they have to mention with every medication touted on the tube). My Genesis is 2012 but it has the exact issue the TSB fixes for previous years. I hope they can use it on my '12.

Looks like I may be out of luck: I read through the TSB and the vehicles listed does not inculde my 2012 Sedan. The TSB is very specific about the model years and my model is not specified even though I have exactly the same issue. I will ask about this tomorrow at the service center.

Looks like that TSB is for 09-11 Genesis models.

My current problem is diminished sound quality while listening to FM and XM. This happened after numerous head unit replacements. Has anybody experienced this and found a fix? An engineer is coming to look at my car but I'm guessing they are clueless.

Vince2 and La Genesis,

Can you both please check the HU software version you currently got? To check SW version, Enter the software update menu by simultaneously pressing the DISC/AUX(B), BACK(C), NAVI/MENU(D) buttons while pressing the VOL KNOB(A).

According to the TSB, Head Unit SW version for 2009 would be less than 21.00, for 2010/2011 would be less than 13.510. If you guys already have version 13.510 in your Head Units then, this issue isn't 100% solved yet or you guys need to check if your Amplifier software version is up to date (UTA version 10.20.4A for all cars). I know the UTA version is displayed somewhere in the Full Eng menu but, I don't remember the exact location right now.

Yesteday, I printed out TSB 12-BE-012 and stopped by my dealer on my way home. They are ordering the discs and are going to call me as soon as they get them. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks TO. I'll check the version and report back. I really appreicate your efforts.
