The Genesis Brake fluid replace that I happened to have done last week is now a recall. Just heard it announced on the news on the radio.
It was announced today that the NHTSA has opened an investigation into the problem of ABS Module malfunction on the Genesis causing complete brake failure. See other threads on this subject. The Genesis Brake fluid replace that I happened to have done last week is now a recall. Just heard it announced on the news on the radio.
Hyundai never admitted that they were related, but it is too much of a coincidence that today they switched the brake fluid replace TSB from "perform switch to DOT-4 if car already in shop for some other reason" to now a mandatory recall. Please note that the brake fluid recall is a separate (but possibly related) issue than the ABS module failures.
Brake Fluid recall is for build date April 1, 2008, through March 16, 2012. Check the build date in the driver's door jamb.I can't access HMAService right now, but what MY does this impact (both the ABS failure and brake fluid).

However, from what I have seen, people who have had a brake failure did not get their brakes fixed permanently until the ABS module was swapped out (DOT-4 upgrade did not fix it if brakes already had symptoms of intermittent failure).
Please note that the brake fluid recall is a separate (but possibly related) issue than the ABS module failures.
I'm not so sure about that. And I am wondering that if the service that was done last week on my Genesis satisfies the recall? They said they replaced the brake fluid in response to the TSB.
So, is there anything else that needs to be done for the recall announced yesterday????![]()
I would think they should be inspecting all cars, whether or not they have had the brake fluid changed or not, for deterioration of components in the system. I am going to the dealer Tuesday for my winter tire swap and will ask them then.
Thanks, keep us posted.
Going down to Naples this winter?.......We leave right after Xmas. It's cold enough now that I'm ready to go!
I think there is a misunderstanding about what I said. There is only one recall at the moment, which is for the brake fluid upgrade to DOT-4. Previously, the TSB only applied to cars already in the shop for some other reason, but now HMA will notify all owners to have the brake fluid swapped out for DOT-4 if not already done.I'm not so sure about that. Based on reports of owners who took their cars in to the dealer when they first encountered an intermittent brake failure, and "usually" the dealers refused to replace the ABS modules unless the problem could be replicated by the dealer, I wonder if they have the capacity to actually figure out whether the ABS module has already deteriorated. If they do, one would wonder why they didn't do that before, instead of sending owners back on the road just because dealer could not reproduce the problem.I would think they should be inspecting all cars, whether or not they have had the brake fluid changed or not, for deterioration of components in the system. Is there anyone else out there like me who has one of these Genesis' built within the dates mentioned that does not have any problems?
I have a 2009 with build date of Oct 2008, but only 44K miles and live in warm weather, and park in attached garage. I have not had the brake problem occur. Brake fluid changed to DOT-4 about two months ago.Is there anyone else out there like me who has one of these Genesis' built within the dates mentioned that does not have any problems?
I think my build date was April 2009 and I've had no brake problems. I've got 90K+ miles on her. This doesn't mean my ABS module is OK though...
