  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ceramic Tint suggestions

That's true. I could have gotten the stripe at the top. I just don't care for the stripe. I do have a custom cut windshield shade from Weather tech that I use to keep heat out.
I do not care for that look either...do you have a link for the windshield shade you use?

So if I understand you right...there is a significant difference even with no tint on the windshield and none on the front door windows?
Correct.. ceramic tint of let's say 50% can better than regular of 5%

Yes big difference.. windshield has no tint side front does. When sun hits front windshield I feel the heat coming through but cool on side windows.. so 5 of 6 windows tint with ceramic makes big difference.

You guys think it's worth it to get a clear ceramic tint on the windshield to help mitigate the heat?

^Was just about to ask the same thing! Or maybe even a 90% ceramic tint or something on the windshield....?

It's almost double the cost here for a windshield tint. But even 70% is fairly invisible to the naked eye outdoors!
The dam dot matrix will give it away if you are ever stopped by the cops!

Windshields have a curve to them that the sides/back dont and tint can cause a distortion that for some can be rather distracting. YMMV. I havent tested this for myself, but my tint guy said not to do my front until I had sat in a car with someone else who had it done (they offered to let me come back and sit in an employees car but i didnt take them up on it)

This is exactly what I'm worried about (and any possible sensor/head-up display issues). On the other hand, I'm thinking that reducing UV/IR light may help the leather interior a bit as those light frequencies have already been proven to damage human skin as well. Especially since my car is parked outside while I'm at work

I considered getting my front windshield done in 70%. The tint shop I used did not have any in stock. But they had a shop truck I got to sit in to see the difference it makes in heat mitigation. It's substantial. There was not any distortion that I could see but the shop told me you have to take sunglasses in to account and sometimes that could be a problem. Like Soma, my car sits outside in a parking lot all day with the sun beating down on it. And it's already in the high 90's here. For now I am sticking with my windshield shade. Once I get the engine started and open the sunroof, the interior of my car cools off before I get out of the parking lot at work. I think I will skip the windshield tint for now.

I'm not sure which 3M it is. He said nano ceramic. If I can get the Crystalline for the same price or a little more, I may consider it.
Cops aren't dicks here and I only use my car to commute to work and only occasionally for anything else.
I didn't think the brown hue would bother me. I just want something similar to what I had. I doubt it was ceramic back in 2012 when that was installed.
I'll have to see the samples tomorrow when I get there. I suspect that 35% may be too light because of my interior. I just hope that 20% isn't too dark!
Brown hue doesnt look good from the outside on some exterior paint colors. I avoided ceramic because I wanted only black appearence from outside on my black G90.

I went with metallized on mine. Have used metallic on my last three cars and never experienced any of the issues some people claim it causes. I know it doesn't provide as much heat reduction as ceramic but I love how it looks. I do not use a radar detector so not sure if it can affect that but my phone signal is fine and it can not affect the radio or xm because the antenna is mounted on the roof. Also my GPS doesnt seem affected at all either. My tint guy has always used a very high end metallized so maybe that's why I have no issues.

If you mean metallized film, I had that on a grey car and it looked really good on grey to silver cars. Had it for 6 years with no fading or issues whatsoever. Best I can remember it rejected heat pretty well. Can’t remember which brand it was though? My tint guy said it was what he used on his own car so he recommended it. It was more expensive than standard grade tint.

Mine is a clear ceramic on the front and I can see a very, very slight distortion if I look towards the passenger side, otherwise I have no issues.

Do you have the HUD? If so, does the tint affect it in any way?

I do not as I wear polarized sunglasses. But I didn't notice any issues when I had it on my G80. Keep in mind most distortions will be from application errors

Have any of you have issues with the defrosters on the rear windshield, with regards to tint application?

I've read some posts/articles about how the lines being raised on the inside of the glass causes issues for tint application. As a result you get a glare/duplicative effect from lights behind you. Trying to figure out if it's a product related issue, application related, or both
