  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Consumer Reports rates audio poor

Ram Air I just re-read your post. If I read you correctly, you can reset your audio by simply turning your vehicle off and then back on. There is no need for you to pull any fuse. Most of us who experience this problem don't have the audio return for several hours after it occurs regardless of shutting the car down.

It has only done it twice. Both times it magically corrected itself, but that was after a 1 hour drive and a shutdown of equal length.
The dealer quizzed me today about where I leave the car ( outdoors/indoors, first thing in the morning, ect.) , trying to figure out if it is a a loose connection or moisture. It's in a heated garage so there is no sense in pursuing this as a mechanical problem.
I explained that there is talk on the this site of a software update but, he seemed unaware of it. He told me to bring it in right away whenever it is misbehaving. That's not going to happen since I'm 20 miles away. At least it's recorded on the work order.
Thanks for the fuse-pull solution.
Gary

"...bring it in right away whenever it's misbehaving..." a perfect catch 22! The no audio problem will not last the 20 miles and the audio will probably not quit while at the dealer. My car was with the dealer for three days without the problem occuring. Of course the dealer reported that they didn't experience the problem, so there was nothing to fix. They had also not heard of the problem or any TSB update. I use a different dealer now. They have promised to update the head unit. The forum member reporting the user fix (ie pulling the fuse) was just passing his Hyundai dealer when the issue occured with his Equus. He popped in to the Hyundai service department and the service writer was not only aware of the issue but gave him the "users" fix.

I have a 2012 R-Spec. The audio has gone out completely, twice, just recently. No disc, I-Pod, radio, voice commands..... nothing! The screen shows that everything is on but there is a slash through the speaker icon. Is there a mute button I don't know about? When I restart the car everything is okay.
It's going in tomorrow

There is a mute button. Check manual.

"There is a mute button. Check manual.". WOW! Really homeofstone? Thanks for the contribution.

Ram Air asked the question. I just answered the question in the post.

"Ram Air asked the question. I just answered the question in the post." Indeed Ram Air did. My incomplete read. I apologize.

Vince, I just pulled up HMAs service site to look at the TSBs..

It looks like you are referring to 12-BE-012-1.

Has anyone had this update performed and had no issues on an 2009 Genesis? I guess my other question is...if I am out of warranty - will they still do this update? (I think they should, but it did occur to me that they may not feel compelled to do it for free.)

Next time my car goes in for an oil change - I plan to inquire about this. It just seems the frequency of the condition is increasing.

Thanks!

Bob

Would you kindly tell us the details of the fix as written on your invoice? Now that might be helpful.

I don't have the paperwork near, but I did a search on the forum for what I posted a while ago and here it is:

"On my invoice, in addition to 10c161r1 2012 BH ECM S/W update, which i believe is for the transmission and some other things, there is a 20C026R1 BH &LM T.SCREEN NAVI SW REPRO"

So the second one was for the navigation.

Homeofstone "most work with no problem"...really? Does Hyundai publish numbers on this sort of issue? Is this opinion about the Genesis radio a hunch? How many owners have to report problems before the Company starts a campaign to correct the issue? I was told by a Hyundai service writer that I should wait instead of having the TSB software applied to my car because she said (and said laughingly ) that Hyundai was probably going to recall the radios! Honestly there is an issue of relabillity with our infotainment systems and Hyundai needs to make a better effort at resolving these issues. The is my first "pseudo" premium car and this experience of the silent radio will play a large part in wether my next car is from Hyundai.

who cares. you don't buy a genesis for the speakers. get the right car and then upgrade to the bose speakers and rock the highway

Wow, you certainly missed the point of this thread. You can take a Mulligan, though.

Well its not my first luxury car and I can tell you that as the systems in cars become more complex the likelyhood of failure goes up. My Mercedes E500 also has a poor rating for the audio which is made by Harman, the same company that makes the Lexicon for hyundai. My Mercedes reboots from time to time and blinks off on its on sometimes(not often). My BMW's audio system was bad and I replaced it about 8 years ago with a Pioneer. The sound that is produced by the Lexicon sytem is the best I have ever heard in any car. From Lexus Forum -- "I have a IS350 that is also about 5 months old right now and i've had this EXACT same issue happen to me. I tried unhooking my phone, changing stations, etc. Eventually turned my car off and back on again and it sounded normal. Its happened to me about 5 times total but turns back off when i restart the car.
I had the dealer look into this and of corse they coudln't find anything wrong.

Any idea if these are related? What exactly was blown for you? The amp right?

Also just today there is now a pop'ing sound with the stock subwoofer is hitting. I'm starting to question the quality of the sound system."

Hmm that is interesting homeofstone. I am indeed a premium car neophyte. I did not know that the cars you mentioned also had issues with their audio/information systems. I really enjoy the sound of the Lexicon but the "mute on startup" was a major ass bite until I learned (from the forum) of the simple fuse pulling fix (albeit a temporary fix). I also question my appreciation of the suspension . My judgement about the suspension is based on driving a Toyata Avalon for the past 10 years. I KNOW what a comfortable ride is but not what sporty ride should be. Thanks for the post

Just curious whether fellow 2012-2013 owners are still having problems? I just crossed the 11,000 mile point in mine, and by this time in my 2010 my Head Unit had already flaked out on me at least once. I haven't seen it (yet) in my 2012.

In 25,000 miles, I've only had one incident - audio sound went dead for a short time after I started the car and tried to do multiple things before the system was ready. For example: start car, change audio source, answer the phone, etc., all within 15 seconds or so. Could not get any audio until I shut down and restarted it. I learned it helps to take things a little slower. No problems since then (October 2011).

With only 5000 miles, no audio issues so far, but the car came with a bad XM antenna that has been replaced.

YEAH...The poor audio system is something that I noticed shortly after I purchased my Genesis. I mentioned it to my my wife a couple of times, who couldn't care less about it. But, I do notice, and I'm 70! My 2005 Accura TL had finer sound.!

As for the audio system cutting out, yes it happened to me once, and the program had to be reset at the fuse box.
