  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Consumer Reports rates audio poor

who cares. you don't buy a genesis for the speakers. get the right car and then upgrade to the bose speakers and rock the highway
I don't agree! A car like this, and it is an up-scale car, should have a finer audio system. After all, that is partly what you are paying for. As I mentioned in another post, my 2005 Accura TL had a better sound system.

The Consumer Reports ratings being discussed is for the reliability of the various compenents of vehicles. The Genesis audio system was rated poor reliability, not poor quality of the sound. There is nothing wrong with the sound quality of the Genesis audio system (if it is working), unless maybe you have the Base Trim model, but even then it is not bad.

Absolutely, the 17 speaker Lexicon in the tech pkg is one of the best oem sound systems as sound reproduction goes in any car, bar none. This has been documented many times by many sources.

First of all,l I want to state that overall I'm a very pleased and proud owner of a claret red, 2012 Genesis, with the advanced tech package. NOW, with that said, I do not agree that the Genesis has a very fine sound system. I remember my 2005 Accura TL having a sound system that was far better. I had the real feeling of being surrounded by full, luscious sound. I don't get that feel in the Genesis. Sorrreeee!!

Okay, my blood is boiling now. Your car is a Cabernet Red Pearl color. :D

Sorry about that PMCErnie, the color is Cabernet Red Pearl, and NOT Claret Red. OR, as my wife calls it, RED!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Vince, I just pulled up HMAs service site to look at the TSBs..

It looks like you are referring to 12-BE-012-1.

Has anyone had this update performed and had no issues on an 2009 Genesis? I guess my other question is...if I am out of warranty - will they still do this update? (I think they should, but it did occur to me that they may not feel compelled to do it for free.)

Next time my car goes in for an oil change - I plan to inquire about this. It just seems the frequency of the condition is increasing.

Thanks!

Bob

I had the TSB 12-BE-012-1 done on my car last November. It took 1 1/2 hours to complete and it upgraded both the software in my Head Unit and Amplifier (See my sign for current versions). I haven't had a single No-Audio/Voice Command issue since then.

A couple of weeks ago I went to my dealer to get the Brake Fluid TSB done on my car and I asked the Service Manager how many customers have requested the TSB 12-BE-012-1. He said I was the only one so far.

Supah! Now I can sleep at night.

I'm originally from Teaneck in Bergen County, NJ.

Does anybody who streams audio through Bluetooth notice that the volume, even at max, is incredibly low compared to XM, FM, CD, etc? That's my only gripe with the base system.

Bluetooth in general seems a bit low. My Bluetooth voice volume for calls is around 30-35. It was the same thing with my g8 though, so it could be that Bluetooth just doesn't produce a strong signal.

Yep. Same here. I have one song on my iPhone and I listen to it a few times a day since it is awwwwe-some. (Al Green, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart).

Every time it starts, it's barely audible using whatever level the volume was last used for XM or radio, which is usually played really loudly.

I still have to crank the volume a big turn just to hear the Bluetooth music. It ends up sounding awesome after I crank it, but its interesting that the volume needs to be X times the radio or satellite to be the same volume.

Now if I could just get the rest of my playlist onto my iPhone I'll be all set. ;}

Technology, she is a fickle lover.

I had commented a few months ago, about the audio system in the 2012 Genesis. In a nutshell, I am very dissapointed in the quality of the sound. The car I had previously, a 2005 Accura - TL, had a far superior sound system, and I expected the same from my Genesis.

Oh well...I still love my Genesis. I guess you can't have everything!

Same when watching a dvd or music dvd... Have to turn it up to 38-40 just to make it loud.. Weird

If you have the Lexicon system and are dissatisfied, I'd have the dealer check it out to see if they find a problem. IMHO, that is the best sound system I've ever had in a car other thsn a custom build I did back in the 90s at a cost of over $2,500.

I am on my second replacement amp. Both replacements don't have the bass the original amp. The car is great but I have had issues with the heads. At start ups the display sometimes just has the Genesis start up screen and sticks the radio works but nothing else and you cannot change the channel or anything not even phone calls but it starts working by the time you drive to the dealer and it sees the Hyundai sign maybe the dealer sends a WI-FI signal to the car to reset and start working when you drive into the service lane!

I have had my surround sound "uncheck" on its own twice in the 6 months that I have owned the car. I have the Lexicon system. Shutting it down for a few minutes has resolved the problem. What is the permanent solution?

Shagnat I am in total agreement! My Lexi tech (17 speakers) Is better than the last custom system I spent BIG Bucks on!
I must be a lucky guy cuz the only warranty work I have on my Genny has been the stretched seat leather and they to replace within 30 seconds, no hassle or argument.

This thread is a bit old now, but I have to comment. I owned a 2009 Genesis for 3 years, and am now in my 3rd year on a 2012 Genesis. I love the cars, but I have had nothing but trouble with the 2012 audio system. When it works it sounds great. But the CD changer has failed twice and had to be replaced twice. The AM radio reception is really poor on local stations (I have another thread on this). They have replaced the radio at least twice. They replaced the audio unit another time to correct the surround sound issue. Just last week they replaced the rear windshield in an attempt to improve the AM radio reception. They gave me a Sonata to drive while they did this replacement. The Sonata had great AM reception. The new rear windshield seems to have resulted in moderate improvement in the AM reception, but still too much static that I don't hear on any other vehicle I drive here. Were I to rate the Genesis--though I love the car--I too would rate the audio system poor.

I'm a new Genesis owner, bought a new 2013 3.8 w/Tech over the weekend. I traded in an '11 Acura TL w/Tech and the ELS audio system (which was ranked #1 by Edmunds for stock audio back in 2011 - http://www.edmunds.com/car-technology/car-audio/high-end-stock-stereo-sound-off.html). Note that the Lexicon is mention in the article, but the 14 speaker version. In my opinion (and my kids), the Lexicon system is a bit better. The base is a bit tighter, and the audio overall gets louder without distortion. Not to mention the UI is FAR more responsive in the Genesis than TL.
