  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dash cam?

Agree. I'd be willing to pay for it as an option as well. This certainly isn't a C8, but interesting to see recent "mechanic raced my car" news items. In my previous Audi A6, I had a severe fluid leak and it had to be towed to the dealer. They had a driver return the car to me - bass was blown - who knows what driving antics there were beyond killing the stereo. Given the Genesis model of picking up & dropping off, would love to have the comfort of knowing how it got to the dealership and back.

There is a feature that limits speed on these, so that will be set before pickup. I was also thinking about having them meet me at a Starbucks right around the corner, so it’s a short drive. ; )

Yeah I was going to take a look at the gasket path and dash removal as soon as I can decide what to get for a new dashcam and get it in. Looking at a Viofo A129 Pro Duo or a Street Guardian SGGCX2PRO at the moment. My old Street Guardian was rock solid, but seems like they are overdue to release an updated model.

That A pillar seems on there solid! This car is definitely put together better than my old Subaru so it may just take some exploration when routing everything. Not to mention if I want to run a rear camera how to route that. Wish there was some power to tap into around the rear view mirror and front facing camera, but I don't know how to get those panels off without just trying to yank at them too.
Yes there is power in the rearview mirror. I just installed my radar detector and tapped power in the rearview mirror.

Just my 2 cents. I do not like going the route of popping off any pillars or anything like coz I would hate to break any of those snap on locks. For me it was just easier to tap into the rearview mirror.

Thanks, yeah. I've been following that thread too.

Do you have anywhere with instructions or steps on this process?

Here's the wiring. You need the white wire (ignition-pin 6) and the black wire (ground - pin 8). The rearview mirror graphic is not the GV70 but it works as I did an electrical test with a multimeter to confirm the voltages. Now, I have not looked into installing a cam so not sure what it needs, but I would guess it would need the same voltage as an RD.

Can someone kindly help me on this? I got the ivolt mini external battery and had it installed by a pro. The installation manual says to use a 20A fuse. So I believe the installer used the Door lock fuse. But now I am getting an error that external device is drawing power. What should I do?

ivolt manual:

Genesis Manual:

Looks like my battery requires a 20A ACC Fuse and it was connected to the Door Lock 20A Fuse. Is the door lock an ACC fuse? Can someone please confirm as I don't have the tools to test.

Ok I was able to find a multimeter. I went and put the multi on DC and tried to measure the volt. Most of them show 11.4 when car is off and then 14.0 when the car is on. How do I find a 20A ACC Fuse? Any help is highly appreciated.

@bestcorea , do you remember if the spare 15A or the 10A is the ACC? I can try to tap into the ACC one and see if it will charge even if it lower than the recommended. Thanks!

the battery should only be charging when the car is on. If it's charging when the car is off yep, it'll cause too much of a drain and give you the error message, that's how I'd design a car. If it's charging off the door locks then yep it's gonna charge when the car is off. take it back to installer.

I rewired everything. So basically the ACC and B+ wires Viofo Hardwire Kit are reversed colours than that iVolt ACC and B+. The way the installer had it was wrong. I reconnected it Yellow to Red, and Red to Yellow. I also plugged the battery to the 15A (this one is the ACC) and now everything is working as it should. I confirmed with Blackboxmycar that it is ok to plug the battery to the 15A or even a 10A fuse. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Good info in this thread, thanks for sharing. I wish I had found out how to remove the A pillar as I ended up snaking my wires behind the lower portion of the airbag with a tie wrap. This was done by pulling down the gasket. I'm tempted to redo the install, but fear damaging the A pillar. Tomorrow I plan to pull the wire to the rear camera. I've experienced this before with a Santa Fe, so I feel confident on how to do it.

Forgot to share the photos of my dashcam installation. Used the two spare fuses (10A and 15A), one was ACC and one was always on (Battery), which worked out perfectly for wiring a dashcam. Be sure to orient the fuse taps as shown since the wire from the fuse tap needs to be in the same direction as the negative terminal of the fuse.

Definitely helps to have a wire puller to get the wires through tight spots. Removing the A pillar panel isn't too hard once you know how to reach the clip in the top portion that holds it.
which fuse was the always on? and also did the A pillar pull directly back or like towards the steering wheel? Start at the top of the A pillar?

If you want to tie into the rear view mirror you can use this:

I used it with a Garmin dash cam mini 2. Very clean and quick install.

Problem for my dash cam with this connection is that it thinks it is connected to a USB and and when it is powered on it asks me if I want to use "Mass storage mode". This message needs to be cleared by selecting "Cancel" before the unit can become operational.

What model of dash cam are you using?

No issues at all.

I ordered two, one for our GV70 and one for our G70 and it works great for both!
