If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dash cam?

Ok, thanks. Using a Viofo A229 at the moment. Haven't got to figure out how to wire the rear camera in so it's even just single channel at the moment. Maybe it is just too sensitive to the voltage drop when the car restarts. Kicks it off for a few seconds and then a few more to wait for it to boot.
I have this exact issue on the 2023 GV70 2.5t Prestige (Canada) + the A229 Duo! I just got the adapter today and plugged it in and the dash cam restarts when Auto Start/Stop kicks in.

May reach out to Dongar since others have said it doesn't occur in theirs.

Not sure how many people that put in dash cams also have a parking mode. After installing my BlackVue, I checked the recordings after a few days and saw it was permanently recording in park mode due to the flashing security light on the dashboard reflecting off the windshield. Apparently, the camera picked up this flashing light as movement.

Initially, I just placed a piece of electrical tape over it...but ended up 3-D printing a little hood scoop. Now the light can be seen from outside...but does not reflect off the window. I do need to place this in a little better now that I see the pictures, did a quick :poop: job.

Needless of the fix - may want to verify you're not wearing the battery down in parking mode.

Nice one!! Could you pls let me know the exact model of the BlackVue cam you installed?

In this car, I'm running the Blackvue DR750x-2ch (which I also run in by BMW and Audi). Front camera is mounted directly under the mirror, back camera is mounted on the upper part of the glass on the tailgate - running the wire through the right side rubber duct that carries the spray water (left wire duct is filled with wires and hard to push the camera connection through).

The 750 cam records in 1080p/60 frames per second front - 1080p/30 FPS rear
The 900 cam records in 4K/30 frames per second - 1080p/30 FPS rear
Both can record to the cloud - both can be viewed with your cellphone.

Don't have any pics of the install - let me know if they're wanted.

Thank you very very much @ShopVac !! :)

Here's a view from the camera of an idiot going around a driver in the turning lane and running a red light. Oddly, didn't realize I list the car's names in the upper corner. Guess I need to adjust this from 'Acura' to say 'Genesis'. You can hear it records sound (can turn on and off) and displays speed (also programmable).

There are no issues reading license plates in the original video...youtube takes some of the quality away.

Looks great! I contacted a dash cam installer in Ottawa and they recommended for me to get BlackVue. They charge around $100+tax for installation. I am scared to do it myself as I haven’t don’t anything like this before. :(

A bit off topic... I see enough drivers like the idiot you showed in your video I've often thought about making a weekly mashup of video clips and posting it to a YouTube channel "[My City] Bad drivers". Would be fun to see if anyone ever recognizes someone (or their car) in the video. Could be like those crazy Russian dash cam channels, only more local and pointing out bad drivers. But I fear if people linked me or my car to the channel these people are rotten enough they could vandalize my vehicle when parked in public.

I know it takes all types of people for this world to succeed, but it never ceases to amaze me the blatant disrespect some people have for rules and laws to help protect them and others.

FWIW, I personally don't think $100 is a bad price to install a front and back camera. It took me a couple hours...so the price seems more than fair.

I had the same issue on G70. A piece of gaffers tape on the LED fixed it. I completely covered the LED. I think it attracts more attention than deter.

I typically just post mine to Reddit - Idiot Drivers subreddit. What you list would be definitely be useful if you had enough participation from your area.

Only reason I pulled this one...is because of another idiot two miles prior that didn't want to wait in line getting off the highway, went around everyone, ran a red light cutting people off in the other direction, only to get pulled over by the police right afterwards. Convenient Cop to say the least. I'd post it...but would need to stitch 4 - 1 minute videos together (cutting out some of the waiting at the red light).

My best DashCam video was when another driver hit my daughter on the highway. After I submitted the video to the insurance, they pointed out back to me that the idiot driver tossed his drugs over the highway jersey barrier right in front of the camera recording him. :ROFLMAO: Basically...how can you tell me you're at fault, without actually saying you're at fault.

Insurance is handled on that one now...I could probably post it up.

I've reached out to Dongar just now to see what they say. I guess the power to the mirror gets either cut completely or drops the voltage too much for the adapter or for the A229 cam itself. I've got a power meter I need to try to see if I can tell what is happening at the USB port.

Does anyone have any tips or advice for removing these rear pillar/trim pieces, I'm trying to run and conceal a wire for my rear dash cam. I think I can possibly just tuck them in but was wondering if anyone had any experience with this?

Forgot to share the photos of my dashcam installation. Used the two spare fuses (10A and 15A), one was ACC and one was always on (Battery), which worked out perfectly for wiring a dashcam. Be sure to orient the fuse taps as shown since the wire from the fuse tap needs to be in the same direction as the negative terminal of the fuse.

Definitely helps to have a wire puller to get the wires through tight spots. Removing the A pillar panel isn't too hard once you know how to reach the clip in the top portion that holds it.
Does the orientation of the fuses matter? I followed the image you posted however we’re still not getting any power. Would you mind taking a photo from the bottom where I can see the orientation of the fuses? Thanks!

Could you please share which was which? In my testing I found 10 A was the always on one. Is that correct?

Rookie here...my hardwire kit comes with 1 Fuse wire for Battery and 1 ground wire. Plan on attaching the 1 fuse to the 10A for constant power since i have motion/park mode. But i see you attached the ground wire and 2 fuse attachments.
Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

Most dashcam hard wire kits come with two hot wires, one ground and a power control box. They wire up with one wire to an ignition hot (only on when ignition is on) to provide power to the camera when you start the car. The other is connected to an always on tap to provide power when the car is shut off (for parking monitor). The power control box has settings for voltage levels to shut off the always on tap when the battery gets to the preset. This keeps the camera from killing your battery when the vehicle is not running.

Do not know what camera you have or its requirements.

Thank you for the reply. I have the Vantrue E2 camera front and rear. Everything you stated the hardwire kit has, except another hot wire, just ground. Since I want parking mode (always on) then I do not need the other wire for ignition on when car starts correct?

Thanks!

So - in quickly looking at the Vantrue E2 - it looks like you can get parking mode, but need to obtain a separate kit for this. You don't just want to hook this up to full power if they only give you one option...as it will wear your battery down. I'd look into obtaining this separate kit if you want parking mode

Looking at the Ventura site, you will need to get the 3-wire kit. You have the 2-wire kit. The 3-wire kit is needed for parking mode.

Perfect, thank you!
