  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Picked up new GV70 (16 miles on the odometer) on Wednesday, 9/22. Drove it home from out of town dealership & around - 331 miles. This morning have a totally dead battery. Roadside dispatched, tried to jump it multiple times, aux came on but no turnover, now being towed to the local dealership. Tow truck driver said he had same issue with a brand new Hyundai Tucson last week.

It probably sat with a dead battery for too long and the battery has lost a cell (or two). That would explain why you can't jump it either. Just a new battery and all will be well again.

I should note that the one my mother bought on Saturday was inside the showroom with a completely dead battery as well. They were able to get it charged while we test-drove a different GV70 and after our ~ 40 mile trip home it cranks fine now.

Thanks! I hope you’re right.

Have now been without our new GV70 for 2 weeks. The dealership was unable to jump it & reported the battery needed to be replaced. Battery is back ordered, last report was it may be in next week. So have owned the car for 3 weeks & driven it for 3 days!

I know it's a new car and all but I'd thank them for their diagnosis and go pay the $200 at Auto Zone for their Platinum AGM battery and be on my way.

A free battery would not be worth 3-4 weeks without my new car.

Thanks! Had no idea that was an option!!

Checked with Autozone, it doesn’t fit my GV70.

That is very sad ..

That's because none of the parts stores know which battery goes into the GV70 yet. All the online shops come up with no info. I'll bet it's an H9 like their large (G90) cars use. The dealership should be able to tell you the battery size designation and then you simply pick the Platinum model of that size from Autozone. It has to be an AGM (sealed) battery and that one fits the bill nicely. It's what's in my Equus!

For everyone searching for GV70 Battery Location, GV70 battery type:

It is a *Group 65* size battery, located under the spare tire.

There. You won't find this information anywhere else online yet. Oh, you can google forever and you'll get factory info on where the jumper post is under the hood. You'll get hits from the G70 because search engines think you mis-typed your query. You'll get hits on every other kind of Genesis since every page of this site includes GV70 at the top. But you won't find this info posted with a date any earlier than today, I guarantee!

Each of those websites has a drop down menu allowing you to choose yr, make, model, trim level & engine of your car & then indicates whether or not that specific battery fits that car.

I think John M was trying to make the point that there is little information on the gv70 battery out in distribution currently. In fact there is so little information, that websites such as AZ and Reilly don't even have that information inputted into their website. I. E, If you search for a gv70 battery on AZ it says they don't have one. But in reality, you could buy the group 65 battery and that would fit and function.
This is what I took from John M's post, but I am unable to confirm this information.

Thanks to both John M. & you! If I don’t have a battery by early this coming week, I may well go that route.

Why hasn’t the dealer gone to Autozone or wherever? Or swapped a battery out of another vehicle? Shouldn't they be the ones with the solutions? If it’s some other issue, this is a waste of $300

I agree, however, we didn’t but it from our local dealer. Their sales dept. was not motivated to find what we wanted or to give us a decent trade in our BMW. We ended up 290 mikes from home getting exactly what we wanted, a very good trade-in amount & a GV70 that doesn’t run. Our local dealership is less than motivated to think outside the box. They maintain only a Genesis or Interstate battery is approved under the warranty & both are back ordered.

Exactly. Every auto parts store will say they don't have a battery to fit a GV70 simply because they don't have any information on the vehicle at all. If you pulled the battery out of your car, slapped it on their counter, and said "I need one of these" they could go match it with one from the rack. They're regular AGM batteries, though I'd go with AutoZone's product because it seems to be a match even with the "carbon" additives touted by Genesis.

As of now there wasn't even any info out there on where exactly to find the battery inside the vehicle! Instead, I went digging through my mother's 3-week-old car to find the battery and measure its dimensions. Her car was inside on the showroom floor when we bought it and its battery was dead too. They charged it and then jumped it off while we test-drove another GV70 and luckily its battery seems to be functioning well. A battery that sits too long will not recover and will require replacement. Warranty will cover that but only from dealer stock.

Nobody has to trust me if they don't feel like it. You can wait another 6 months to a year and the auto stores will have the info. Or you can go down to the store, spend $220ish, and have a driving car in minutes.

So 10 days later & still no car! The parts dept. at the dealership where we bought it recommended a Hyundai Palisade battery, said it would “marry well”. Our local dealership that has the car, agreed & requested approval from Genesis district parts so it eoukd be covered by the warranty. That was a week ago, no answer forthcoming. The local service guy opted to install it without approval yesterday & the local dealership would take responsibility. Unfortunately, the terminals on that battery did not match up. Have now owned the car for 34 days & it’s been in the shop for the last 28. In 2 days we qualify for a lemon law resolution & may go that route. Very, very frustrating & infuriating!!!
