  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Deciding between GV70 and X3

Hello
I'm 28 single no family want to get a nice sporty suv cruiser coming from a Honda civic for 10 years.

Should I go for X3 or GV70 both base models ? Maybe advanced package 2.5 on the GV70
I test drove both and X3 felt more mature interior

I didn't like Gv70 steering wheel

I like the German heavy handling

But I also enjoy straight line power

Any opinions or thoughts ?
I have just traded in my second X3 for the GV70 2.5.. ( 2004 and 2014 X3's).. I also own a 740isport.
I am impressed with the style, price point and tech of this car.. My wife who drove the x3 fell in love with this car when she first saw the GV80.

After 3 weeks of owning a 2.5T GV70 here are my impressions.
1. Very well-produced auto ..I saw no major or minor defects with the production build.
2. Extremely luxurious compared to my well-optioned X3 ( 2.8)
3. Incredible tech..however, so much tech that getting familiar with it all is daunting.
4. Styling is A+.. I love it compared to the X3.. yeah it's 8 years newer but wow the lines and the LED lighting are spectacular.
5. Interior is so much better than the x3..again my X3 was $54K in 2014 highly optioned.. The GV70 was $51K
6. I love how quiet the interior is on this auto..and the door closures are solid, sound and have a quality closure...better than my x3.

Downsides.. best gas mileage has been 26mpg, Too much tech in some respect or I am just not used to having all this assist capability. I have questions about the lane assist as sometimes I do get a hard pull in a direction if the lane markings get mis-interpreted by the sonar/optical system.

I think this car is well worth the money, I value the warranty, I appreciate the styling and the looks it receives from other drivers and I appreciate the tech and connected service capabilities..

Just turn that darn lane assist off.

I'm still just surprised that a young, single guy wants an SUV, haha.

There are no sporty SUVS unless you get a Urus…cant have the best of both worlds.

Why even get a suv if you dont have a family?!?

Just get a sports sedan…shieeeet

Just go enjoy the process. Get out and drive them, make this the fun time. The challenge these days is finding them to test drive, but after that it’s just about picking your options.

I’ve never been one that cared about others opinions on something as subjective as what I/you like. I liked taking the time and researching but I never researched for opinions, just looking for facts.

If you have the means to look at these at your age go enjoy yourself. My only other opinion is maybe expand your search to other brands too…I remember being blown away by how many other really good products there are.

I don't like sedan because my back hurts and want more comfort

People jus tbuy a $150 Carlinkit dongle unit (Amazon or wherever) and Bob is your Uncle in overcoming this "knock" against the GVs. By the time it gets all connected to the GV's system you'll be about ready to start dealing with what's playing off of it. For $150 to cover the "no wireless" issue . . . this is a nothing sandwich really and I'm sure anyone would be over it 3 seconds after you see the Carlinkit (or similar product) do its job. Didn't know these things existed until I did just a wee bit of digging. FYI to anyone needing this.

I have a family member, same stats as yourself, who loves my GV70 but wanted something sportier.
He bought a G70. Got all the bells and whistles and is very happy with it.

C/D covered a lot of what was going to say, but keep in mind that things can differ a good bit depending on powertrain and trim/options, particularly for the X3 where there's more variance.

Going to repeat what had stated in another thread -

One can tell the difference in skill of the driver in their analysis of the GV70 3.5T Sport.

Some reviewers have stated that it's not as dynamic as it should be, whereas others state that it's as good as anything bar the top-spec Stelvio or Macan.

There have even been reviewers who have stated that they can't fully utilize Sport+ mode while street driving and that it would take a closed circuit to safely test the limits.

Not just limited to the X3, but there have been reviewers less enamored of BMWs unless one starts adding suspension upgrades or opt for an M model.

While the best M models are amazing to drive, there's often a trade-off when it comes to ride comfort and steering feel/feedback inexplicably can vary fairly widely for differing BMW models, including for the M variants.

So, it's important to test drive exactly what you are planning on getting.

I have always liked a "sporty" car. However, I also want a lot of tech and I have back and neck issues, so comfort is VERY important to me. If I had the means, I'd have an suv of some sort, for my dog and a sports car. I owned a Mustang, and most recently, a Lexus RC300 F Sport. The Lexus was a great car. it was loaded and the seats were comfortable. It handled well and was awd. When I got a dog, I had to get something bigger. The gv70 was not out yet. I looked at the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Volvo xc60, and the X3M40i. I ended up wit hthe X3m40i. Before I got my Lexus, I also test drove the audi S3 and the A5. There is no question that German cars and Japanese/Korean cars don't feel the same. The rides, in my opinion are quite different, The gv70 2.5 that I drove was a much different ride than my X3 and also much different from the X3 30i. The BMW X3 isn't better or worse than the Genesis, just different. If you're that torn between the 2, I'd say go with whichever vehicle is most comfortable, as far as seats and ride. I have found that one short test drive is not nearly enough to make a decision. When you first get into a new car, there are too many distractions to really focus on what you need to, in order to make a good decision. The worst mistake that I've made with a car is buying it finding out that it wasn't comfortable. When I got my Mustang everybody tried to tell me that I would not like a muscle car. Until I actually drove the car for a while, I didn't truly understand the difference between a sports car and a muscle car, and, while I loved looking at the Mustang, I hated driving it. Both the BMW and Genesis look good but you tend to get more options for the money with Japanese/Korean cars. I'm not mentioning anything that anybody else hasn't already. Just giving my 2 cents because I've had thes dilemmas many times myself. Also keep in mind, this probably won't be your last car.
