This isn't always true. My wife and I both just upgraded to 2018s in February, me a GMC Terrain Denali and her a Kia Sorento SXL (both are fully loaded so fairly expensive) from a 2015 Kia Optima EX and 2014 Dodge Durango limited respectively (not even the fully loaded trims), and our insurance actually went down by like 20 bucks a month because of all the new safety features the newer vehicles have. So sometimes getting a newer vehicle can save you on insurance if it's considered safer than your last vehicle.I agree. I mean, short of a freak accident like the guy sitting in a parking lot with his G80 turned on and the car ends up totaled - can't prevent stuff like that. I know new cars are more to insure than older ones, but G70 to G80, we're talking the same age. Maybe because the body panels and parts for the G70 are scarce given that it is brand new?
My 2006 GTI with literally more than double the horsepower of my 2015 base Mazda 3 hatchback is much less to insure. ~$55 a month for full coverage vs about ~$85 full coverage. And the deductibles and all of the coverages are the same.
I think in the case of the G70 and G80, you're more likely to get hurt in a G70 just because it's smaller and on top of that, it's sportier so you're more likely to drive recklessly. I don't think it's about the actual cost to replace parts cause it's probably pretty close. They think you're higher risk in a G70.
