  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Did your insurance company have 2019 G70 in their system?

I agree. I mean, short of a freak accident like the guy sitting in a parking lot with his G80 turned on and the car ends up totaled - can't prevent stuff like that. I know new cars are more to insure than older ones, but G70 to G80, we're talking the same age. Maybe because the body panels and parts for the G70 are scarce given that it is brand new?

My 2006 GTI with literally more than double the horsepower of my 2015 base Mazda 3 hatchback is much less to insure. ~$55 a month for full coverage vs about ~$85 full coverage. And the deductibles and all of the coverages are the same.
This isn't always true. My wife and I both just upgraded to 2018s in February, me a GMC Terrain Denali and her a Kia Sorento SXL (both are fully loaded so fairly expensive) from a 2015 Kia Optima EX and 2014 Dodge Durango limited respectively (not even the fully loaded trims), and our insurance actually went down by like 20 bucks a month because of all the new safety features the newer vehicles have. So sometimes getting a newer vehicle can save you on insurance if it's considered safer than your last vehicle.

I think in the case of the G70 and G80, you're more likely to get hurt in a G70 just because it's smaller and on top of that, it's sportier so you're more likely to drive recklessly. I don't think it's about the actual cost to replace parts cause it's probably pretty close. They think you're higher risk in a G70.

Yeah...but what about the G80 Sport?...I mean... it’s in the name LOL.

Still not as sporty as a G70, and it's heavier so it's slower. Also, it would fare better in a wreck than a G70 I bet so you're still more protected so less for them to pay out in medical bills. I mean the G80 Sport is nice, but I don't find it that sporty in comparison to a G70. Apparently the insurance companies don't either lol.

A rich teen isn't going to have their dad buy them a G80 Sport, nor will a young and cocky 20/30 something with their first good job. They will buy a G70. It's definitely going to be a younger and riskier group of owners, ON AVERAGE, which sucks for some of us who are more responsible. I don't care about the sport I just want a nice non-German car with these features and comfort :(

True. Fingers crossed for the USA. Hopefully they think it’s a Hyundai...just like they think Ontario is a state

I wonder if the insurance is also higher for a flashier car?

One of the things I'm concerned about with owning a new car is jackasses deciding to vandalize it because they have small penises and are jealous. Not to mention people who might try to get into a wreck with you because they think you're loaded driving a flashy car and want an easy payday.

Lol can you tell I'm a pessimist?

I hear you...but let’s face it. As nice as it is...it’s not a Porsche, AM...or rich peep brands. I wouldn’t worry.

Now...if you debadge (like I am minus wing badge)...folks will think it’s the other brand with the wings ;)

Good points. I wonder if the insurance would be cheaper on a loaded Mazda 3 then with the adaptive cruise control, blind spot/cross traffic monitoring, rear camera (my 2015 didn't have that as it wasn't required that year). On the other side of things, if you did get into an accident, all of those safety items WILL cost more to replace on a car that has them versus the same model car that doesn't have them. Radar/laser, making sure they're accurately configured after replacement, etc. I can only imagine how much it must be to replace the headlights of some of the European cars that have advanced Matrix LED lighting that US regulations don't allow because they're so far behind...

I guess I'm that 30 year old that wants one hahaha. The Sport 6MT.

I am too haha, just don't care about the sport. I'm looking at the 2.0 Prestige probably.

I'd go get a Jaguar or Mazda but they don't have Android Auto or Carplay yet. Lexus commercials annoy the hell out of me, I hate the front, and they look old fast. Don't want the cost of MB/BMW/Audi. Everything has a problem that turns me off except the G70.... which we can't buy yet :(

Yes, the G80 and C43 were cheaper to insure, also i got a quote for the 2018 Audi TTRS and it was only 20 bucks a year more than the G70,

I dont know why but i almost raged out and sold my G70 because of the wacked out insureance rates cmon man a TTRS should not match the G70.

I recieved 5 quotes for the above cars, pricing changed all 5 times but the G70 was always the most expensive at just a couple bucks a month under a TTRS

Curious...been 20 years since Toronto for me...do they reduce cost of pleasure driving?

I think I had Monnex...been so long. I’m an engineer.

No idea what that is lol so i guess not, i am in Alberta

So I called Geico this morning. The car is not in their system...even by VIN.

So she quoted me based on $51,500 for the Sport AWD, etc. Not necessarily lining up with the G80 Sport. Who knows how she did it.

But...as it stands...I would pay $400 per year more than I pay for my 2013 A4 Premium Plus Quattro. OUCH. That is quite a bit.

She confirmed that once the car is added...and if it were to be less than that to insure...I would get a credit.

I'm quite surprised...that is a big chuck of change more to pay. Hmmm.

USAA will give a quote online. I selected 2.0 Elite, married couple, clear records, USAA custormers. $359 for six months.

It's still less than the ~$10k price differential though. But I agree. $400 more is a lot assuming the coverages and deductibles are all the same.

Really? I have USAA, but I haven't tried to play around with adding in the G70, as I just assumed it wasn't an option.

Thanks for the info!

Monnex was for engineering professionals only. Somewhat better pricing. Need to google if they even exist anymore.

Looks like TD acquired them...

And you can get a discount if the vehicle is not used for commuting. But typically you have to insure 3 vehicles for that. My wife for a while used to bus to work and we were able to insure her vehicle for pleasure. But when she started doing park and ride at the train station she had to pay for commuting again.

WOW! Me and my wife also have USAA, but we are paying 310/mo for my 2018 Camaro SS and her 2014 Kia Optima
