If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Differential oil and additive for LSD

Hi all, back in September I bought a 35k Mile 3.3T AWD Prestige and had the dealer replace the rear LSD fluid with the fluid Genesis recommends (it had never been done before) per the maintenance schedule in the manual. Of course I thought I was doing the right thing and now I'm 2 replacement LSDs in and have an appointment tomorrow for what I'm 100% certain will be a 3rd placement (so fourth rear LSD) in the car. Lots of chattering, grinding, shuddery turning on throttle at low speeds, etc. After the second LSD was replaced I made the senior service advisor aware of the TSB for the Stinger GT and GV70 rear LSDs specifying additional friction modifier and they did confirm this but said that they cannot follow this TSB for the G70 because Genesis does not have the same TSB for it.

What are the odds I can get Genesis Corporate to authorize the proper fix for this car if I open a case with them? Should I just have them put a new diff in and try the Amsoil Severe Gear and Slip Lock additive as soon as I get the car back? How has this worked out for those of you that have gone that route so far? Has this fix lasted long enough to seem like a permanent solution? My 3rd diff went the longest before making the noise after replacement with the OEM fluid but it did eventually go again after maybe 5k miles.

I bought the car with an extended bumper to bumper warranty so thankfully I'm covered on the diff for 4 years and another 50K miles but I need a permanent fix or I'm going to have to ditch the car which I really don't want to do.

Thanks in advance.

I'd put the aftermarket gear oil in ASAP after you get that new diff in there, I doubt third time's a charm :(

Hi. Whatever you do, just take the car to an independent shop and have them put in the Amsoil, or do it yourself. I'm not a do-it-your selfer, but swapping the diff fluid in is easy for some one who's comfortable doing their own stuff. I'm the first owner of my 3.3 RWD SP, and I swapped to the Amsoil at 20,000 miles. Was not noticing any problems; I just wanted to go up to 75 W 90, since I do a lot of driving in hot desert conditions in the summer months. So, since I was swapping it out, decided to go with a better aftermarket fluid.

Car's at the dealership. They said they would open a case with Genesis at my request. Service manager said they had a customer go through 4 diffs. I have no idea what happened after that, if it ultimately was fixed or not. I thought mine was fixed for nearly two months before the noise started to come back. That customer could have sold the car by now. I'm still angling towards putting the Amsoil fluid in after I get the car back no matter what, but if they end up doing the Kia Stinger TSB fluid when they replace the diff I'll probably wait a bit and see if the noise comes back and if it does I'll go straight to the Amsoil. I could pay a shop to do it for about 120 bucks but I may try and do it myself which will require me buying jack stands and a jack or ramps. That way I can do my own oil changes as well since they're expensive in this car.
