  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you prefer the 2015+ Genesis over the previous generation?

Obviously since this is the 2015+ subforum most of us prefer it because we own one. There is a similar thread in the 2009-2014 forum and I have been astounded with what some people are saying regarding the styling and interior of the 2015 compared to the prior generation. Having owned both, I feel that the 2015 was an idea of luxury with a hint of aggression that was executed much better with respect to styling, fit and finish, materials, comfort, and road presence. The interior of the 2009-2014 was unimpressive, the faux woodgrain made no attempt to appear to be real, the overall interior layout was aging, and while the car was handsome, the 2015 is easily a better looking car in my opinion with the pronounced grille, long hood and short trunk. Are there things I miss on my previous Genesis? Sure, but the new one is so much better in nearly every respect.

below is a link to the other thread. I understand this is all subjective, but come on, having owned both there is no possible way I could say that Hyundai "messed up" on the 2015 and the 2009-2014 is the better car.

I'm sorry but my fellow Genesis owners that feel that way are just wrong.

+1 - never even noticed the G1. Not a bad car but it just blended in.

I don't hate the G1 but would never have thought to buy one. Looks too old/bland and cheap inside. The only reason I am getting a G2 shortly is because one caught my eye and I was like, Whoa, what is that?! I couldn't believe it was the new Genesis. Once I did some research, I immediately gave up on the Mercedes C class or Avalon I had been thinking about. It's so nice looking outside, and pretty solid inside too, for a great price. Sorry to all the people who love their G1, I'm just not one of them.

The only thing I prefer from the G1 is the highway acceleration and the rear end.

Exactly, I owned a previous gen and it got some looks but I have received way more attention from the second generation in s much shorter period of time.

Absolutely, the interior was awful and was my least favorite part of the car aside from the seats which were just plain uncomfortable.

lol, the rear end of the second generation genesis is one of my favorite parts of the car!!! the taillights, quad exhaust tips, and the short rear decklid just come together to make one handsome rear.

Sorry to interrupt you rear-end worshippers. The leather dash on the up-level 1Gen cars is bootyful. Only ultimate 2Gen owners get real wood. The rest get plastique.

Well let me elaborate. I prefer the tail lights on the first gen. I agree the quad exhaust looks good.

My favorite view of the car is the side profile.

I just disagree that the gen1 is a timeless design. I think currently it looks dated and the interior and seats are awful.

I have just recently traded in my 2013 R-Spec for a 2015 V8 Ultimate. Below is a top level list of likes/dislikes with respect to both generations of this wonderful sedan:
G1
PROS
:
-Strong Acceleration
-smooth engine
-strong brakes
CONS
- cheap interior
- seats lack support
- exterior and interior design lacks the mark of a luxury sedan
- vague feel of steering
- subpar suspension

G2
PROS

- Exterior design is amazing. This car really stands out of the crowd.
- Every inch of the cabin scream luxury
- Very nicely designed seats
- Very nicely designed dash - personally I think the dash design is one of the best in the industry - to each its own
- overall a very quiet sedan
- Technology is impressive
- This car really gives me the feel of driving a true luxury sedan.
- AWD - a must here in Canada

CONS
- can be very thirsty
- although suspension is greatly improved over G1 I personally feel that some tweaks are still needed
- G2 seems to be slower that G1 - (not a big deal though)

Everybody keeps saying how the G2 stands out in a crowd. Yeah, when you are *that* ugly, you do tend to stand out! :-p And I still think the interior of the G2 screams "Ford", where the interior of the G1 says Mercedes (or take your pick). I do recall somebody saying that the G1 with the rigid collars was 90% as good as the G2. I'm not sure, how with all that extra weight, that the G2 is a "better" handling car than the G1. Better in what way? Softer, smoother ride? Some of us would say that is not better handling.

You are entitled to your own opinion and thank you for sharing it with us.

how does the g2 scream ford? what specifically? the G1 interior is horrid.... large gaps between the doors and dash, cheaper materials and well documented terrible seats.

I have owned many cars from various manufacturers, mainly lexus and audi and the G1 interior in styling and fit and finish was nowhere near the quality of those. the G2 definitely gives them more competition. Many journalists that review these cars for a living will agree.

I know you are entitled to your opinion but I cant for the life of me figure out how you get Ford from the interior.

I must have gotten a Wednesday G1

Two reasons why I haven't pulled the trigger on the G2
1) Waiting for that rumored V6 twin turbo (...so I might be waiting for a while)
2) I'm not a fan of the rear end styling...I like the lights, but the look is shapeless when you compare it to it's competitors.

It was that 2012 Superbowl Commercial of the Gen 1 RSPEC that drew me in. I was hooked a few months after I seen that commerical after we test drove one when we were looking for a new car for my wife.

Right then I knew it was going to be my next car. I then joined this forum to gain more knowledge on the Genesis and found that a 2nd Gen car was in the works. I followed it through the release of spy pics on here and then on to all the write ups from those who test drove them and I quickly knew that it was the 2nd Gen I really wanted now.

If it wasn't for the 1st Gen, I would never even been looking at the 2nd Gen. :D
