  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does the 2015 G2 3.8L rwd w/Ultimate Opt have illuminated door sill plates?

Did you check the feature list on the Hyundai website?

Only on the V8 and only on the front door sills. However, you can have them installed on a V6 by the dealer as an accessory - or buy the sills and do it yourself (you can buy as an OEM kit).

Thanks Nikgen for the quick and comprehensive reply. Exactly what I wanted to know about the lighted sills.

Ray

I seem to recall that lighted sills cannot be installed easily in some Gen 2 models. Something to do with lacking the needed wiring harness and no connector plugs under the sill plates. No such problems with 1 Gen models.

I did check the website but only found 2016 info. Thanks for not answering.

Ray
So do your think that I knew the answer and deliberately did not tell you?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

The G1 input is irrelevant as the OP clearly stated he was asking about 2015 G2 in the title of the thread?

With respect to the ease of installation on the G2, I wouldn't call it hard, but you do need to thread the leads from the driver side sill plate through the dashboard to under the glove box to make the power connections. It will take some time and patience to do, but not technically difficult.

I'll decide what is relevant in my posts, thank you very much. It's a breeze to install the lighted sill plates in the Gen 1 cars. They are plug and play. Not so easy in the improved Gen 2 vehicles.

Strange that you did not mention the extra difficulties of installing them until I mentioned it above. Is there anything else you need to tell the OP? I'll defer to your expertise.

Strange you posted about installing lighted sill plates in a G1 when this is the 2015/2016 G2 forum and the OP had CLEARLY stated his question was related to the 2015 G2 = your input on the G1 was irrelevant to the thread = fact: whether you like it or not.

I initially did not mention anything about the install as the OP just asked if it it was possible, not what the procedure was or how hard it was. You chimed in with the erroneous "cannot be installed easily in some Gen 2 models" comment when they can be installed in any G2 model.

I then gave him some info to correct your statement and didn't talk about "extra difficulties" as I don't feel the 2015 sill plate refit is difficult (as I stated)... AND... I have absolutely no idea what the install procedure is on the old car for comparison - nor do I care as that procedure is irrelevant to me as a G2 2015/2016 owner and to any other G2 owner looking to install the lighted sill plates in their G2.

Again, why are people posting questions about the Gen1 in the Gen2 section? It just leads to confusion in the end as is evident above. This post should be deleted and reposted in the proper section IMHO.

In this case, the OP's question was about his G2, so it was in the right forum - it was the response about the G1 that threw us a little bit off course. ;)

Gets confusing at times, thanks for the clarification. :welcome:

Use the trunk monkey option on him.

Ray, please let us know how easy this upgrade is. The Gen 1 upgrade to lighted sills is a breeze. Takes 10 minutes for two sills. What's great is that the connector plug for the lighted sills is already there, just waiting to power the new lighted plate. Plug and play! Makes you wonder why Hyundai crapped out on the Gen 2 hookup.

You have to wonder why some folks are so caught up in their own thing that they cannot stand to discuss the big picture of the Genesis. If ya wanna get picky, this thread should have been posted in the Lighting & Appearance Mod forum, not the '15 forum. There is a big wide world here, outside of the '15 forum. Some folks should visit it.

You miss the point. This thread is not about the "big picture of the Genesis" - it is about a very specific question on the G2. Your bad info that it was not possible to add lighted sill plates on all G2's and the fact that it might be easier to do on the G1 is of no help.

Maybe you should just stick to answering model-specific questions on the G1 you actually own, know about and can help people with? I certainly don't answer questions about the older model...

Yes, that is the way I read your reply. No problem though. I have my answer.

Ray
No, I did not know the answer, but I knew where you could get it.

I don't think you were trying to withhold info from the OP - but the 2015 model info was already purged from the Hyundai website some time ago, so there was no feature list info there for him to check.

Yes, he mentioned that later and I did not think of that when I first posted. I probably would have looked at the 2016 features anyway, as they are mostly the same.

He admitted that he thought I knew, and was deliberately withholding the info.
