  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Downloaded the new software update for my 2023 GV80 via USB stick

Gremlins! I was skeptical when the display reappeared so drove the car through different speed zones (yes, would seem that front camera does input speed sign limits) and exceeded speed limit to test speed limit warning. Turned off the HUD in the vehicle settings, confirmed no display, then reenabled. Everything showed up! I did speak to service manager this morning but doubt that has anything to do with this.
Maybe they pushed an OTA update that fixed this??

Ver 16.5. Lost the HUD features as others had described, but all of a sudden have shown up again. No explanation!
16.5? Is it software version? Mine is 2022 3.5 prestige does not say anything lime 16

OTA Software install would have to have been updated to the car by an individual before any changes or made.

Something I just noticed; In the "watsnew" folder in the files you download, there are two text files one marked "detail" the other marked "Summary" they both have some crap coding, but they do tell you what the changes were as well as some picture files showing the dashboard.

After your message I did a reboot of my system by holding the "map" & "setup" buttons on the dash (under the big touch screen) down at the same time for 10 seconds. As soon as the touch screen went black, the speed limit sign appeared on the HUD. It stayed there for the whole reboot process. When the reboot is almost finished the "user" screen appears as in the attached picture. When it first appears the "confirm" button is grayed out. While the "confirm" was grayed out, the speed limit sign was still in the HUD. However, the second the "confirm" button lit up (reboot was finished), the speed limit sign on the HUD disappeared. This happens every time. I did it 3 times. Go Figure!!

Well, easy come easy gone. Took the car out again and speed limit disappeared when the confirm lit up. IDK.

I'm beginning to suspect it has to do with the user profile and the upgrade interactions.

Before I did the upgrade, I had the Nav option "avoid highways" set to avoid. After the update the routes would always "avoid highways", and in the update there is no option to turn "avoid highways" off. Long-long story, but in the end I had to delete my user settings and reset all to factory. Once I did that, the "avoid highways" was permanently turned off, and Nav worked properly.

Since the speed limit disappears exactly at the moment when the user screen appears with "confirm" lit up, I am wondering if it is an issue related to the user settings and the update.

PS: My driver 2 is not setup, nor is Guest, and when I switch to either of them, the speed limit sign still is not on the HUD. I think it might just be a conflict between any user settings being setup and the upgrade itself.

FYI, just got this from Mapnsoft after I asked for an update on the HUD issue. This is BS.

Unfortunately since this is an issue with the HUD we cannot assist with the issue you are experiencing with the speed limit display. You will need to bring the matter to your dealers attention so they can escalate the problem to the engineers of the unit. They may need your system log during this process, but at this time all we can recommend is a reinstall of the update since the matter is out of our control.

I sent the above quote (CEM quote) to mapnsoft, and below is their reply:
(BTW, their reply indicates they are working on the HUD speed limit sign issue. In an earlier post (quote above from blschaefer1), mapnsoft reported that mapnsoft could not help with a HUD issue.) This company is clearly lost on customer service.

Below is the reply from mapnsoft received today: (They indicate they are working on the HUD speed limit sign issue).

Hello,

This is an issue currently being worked on by the developers of the HUD system. We've no idea why the speed limit sign appears on reboot or why it disappears after the reboots completed. The information we have on hand is the issues mentioned by you are being investigated and fixed by the developers of the heads up display for your vehicle. We apologize if this information is unhelpful and inconvenient for you.

Sincerely,
Josh

Hilarious!
I hope they are indeed working on it. I chatted with them this morning and was told to contact Genesis as this is a hardware problem.

How sad. How can it be a hardware problem when it used to work with the old software, and the hardware has not been replaced - only the software?

I know you folks have probably tried this , but once again I would recommend that you do a Hard Reset of the Head Unit by disconnecting the battery and waiting for at least 20 minutes before reconnecting it.
Follow the Owners manual for resetting those features that need to be reset after disconnecting the battery even if they are operable after the battery is reconnected.
I would give the reset at least a day or two before throwing in the towel.

The software update may not be the problem, but I believe it to be the cause of a problem that somehow may just affected the Head Unit.

I thought I had it back yesterday. I even shut down the car and restarted after 15 min, disabled the HUD and the speed limit display seemed ok, then for whatever reason, it disappeared just as quickly as it reappeared. Display behaves as CEM has documented. IMHO,there is a software coding conflict with the update.

Thanks for the suggestion. I believe it has possibilities.
I would try disconnecting the battery, but I found in manual some other features of the car itself, not just display, that will require an initiation process to restore if the battery is disconnected. The procedure looked a bit involved. I just dont want to create more issues while trying to fix this one. So I hesitate to remove the battery right now. Maybe down the road if they dont come up with a fix, I may do that.

You just have to reset your power roof, windows and trunk. The trunk is the only thing that can be a little tricky, but just follow the instructions. Under the circumstances you might see if service would do it for you at no charge.

About service. I am trying to avoid anything that requires my car to go to the service department. Since Covid, appointments have been at least 4 weeks out, and now they are 5 weeks out. Getting them on the phone is impossible also. And their web site for setting up appointments does not work either (It used to, but not now). And I live in a very large city, and it is a major dealer in the city. If I break anything it will be a looong wait.

I did an update Oct/Nov/2022.. And yes my "speed limit" sign shows up on the HUD.. Maybe the Canadian software is different then USA, but it works in Canada.. well on my 2021 GV80 3.5T Prestige..

Yes, its different from US version

And Yes, the US 2021s do not seem to have this issue when updating either.

I have a 2023 and in my pursuit of a solution, I have installed the update more than once, performed a hard reset more than once, and disconnected the battery for 10 minutes. The result is no change in the HUD. Btw, the battery disconnect for me was not a big deal, no resetting was necessary.

I started a case with mapinsoft on10/30 and furnished them all the information they requested: downloaded file details, numerous screen shots of HUD and menu screens, and interestingly they also asked for a picture of my 64MB USB. This exchange of information occurred in the first 3 days after starting the case, and since then nothing but radio silence from mapnsoft. I have sent numerous requests for an update on my case and all I get back is "So sorry, and we are busy working on it".

I also started a case with Genesis customer care and escalated into a number of supervisor levels, none of the supervisors were remotely aware of the issue and all of them pointed me back to mapnsoft.

Grrrrr, a two-month-old car and its now missing features it had when I purchased it.

Feel your pain buddy.
