  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Driver seat backing detached

Mine did the same thing on the passenger no one in the seat. The person took it to the dealer did they say it was covered or how much it cost to fix
My dealer said it was not covered by warranty and wanted $850CAD just for a new seat back without labor cost. I came up with a zip tie method to fix it by using the existing parts. Very easy and cheap fix. User fonque made a very nice thread about this fix. Link below.

I'll have to try this, BOTH my backs broke and No One even rides in the back, Dealer quoted me $536.00 per unit

Just did the very easy zip tie method on the passenger seat since my son and a few Johnny Cage foot tantrums from his car seat behind the passenger seat was enough to break the plastic tabs at the top. I have more confidence in the zip ties holding than I do in those shoddy looking plastic clips that look like they are just waiting for a chance to break if I took the car in for the dealer fix.

This is an easy fix with the zip ties. I also installed a small wood block in the recess and threaded the zip tie through the wood block, after drilling a hole in it, around the metal clip and tighten it up. This provided extra support to the plastic support. Hope that helps.

Thanks to @the.tru.albertan I did a modified version of his zip tie fix. I ended up drilling through the black plastic with a 13/64 bit, then ran long zip ties through the existing metal brackets. This way you have long ends to pull and tighten from each side (make sure to route the end appropriately). It is not perfect but way better than it was. You can also see where I tried unsuccessfully to use velcro. Thanks again! View attachment 31446View attachment 31447View attachment 31448View attachment 31449
Thanks for the photos! Attempting this tomorrow!

Well written description of the fix with photo's here:

I fixed this problem by epoxying the plastic bits on the seat backing. Hopefully it’ll hold up. If it doesn’t, I’ll try to zip tie method.

I paid extra for the extended warranty. 10 / 100k
I have the same issue and they said I must have done something to it and will cover it (2019 Genesis Sport). They want 782.00 to change it out!!!

I did the ziptie mod and it worked perfectly took 10 minutes.

Looked at the online photo's and I believe I am going to try the zip ties as well! Thanks for your help!
Yea i zip tied mines pretty simple to do

Thank you, I will give it a go!

This justr happened to me also. 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The dealer wants $1500 to fix. After seeing this forum, I was able to fix it myself. I drilled one small hole on each of the broken tab housings on the inside #7. I purchased 100 different size zip ties for $10 on amazon and used the middle size zip-tie and put it thru the hole and around the metal pieces and tightened it up snug. Then I lined up the metal pieces with the locations on the frame of the seat and pushed them in and heard the snap. DONE. No one knows anything happened. Thanks for the suggestions.1655908656580.webp

I have a 2016 sedan (I guess it would be the equivalent of the G80).

The back of my driver seat just popped the other day. Only I drive it and no passenger on that side.

I can’t seem to find clips or anything to re-attach.

Has anyone had this happen?
Yes I have a 2015 hyundai genesis sedan and my passenger seat back popped off as well.

Follow these instructions:

This is apparently a common issue. The same thing happened to me. I have a 2019 G80 Ultimate with only 17k miles. I noticed my driver's back seat cover was loose when I was cleaning the car. The right clip on the driver's side broke. Out of curiosity, I pulled it a little to figure out what the hell happened and snapped the left side too. :cautious: Cheap engineering.

I super glued the plastic and it held but a month later as I was grabbing something out of my pocket, I put pressure on the footrest to bring my torso up, and suddenly "POP!". That's when it clicked to me... You can't apply the slightest of back force to the seat or it will break the brackets...

Let's see if they cover it under warranty. If they give me the "not covered" BS, I will use the zip tie method with the drilled holes. Fingers crossed.

Mine did the same thing. I just hit the palm of my hand and it snapped back in.
