  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Driver seat recline issue. 2015 Genesis.

Same issue with 2015 Genesis 3L, AWD. First dealership told me its normal
and second dealer took seat apart and reset it to fix the problem.

Late to this thread but...I just had this issue (21FEB23) I have a 2013 Genesis 3.8 sedan (Premium) Vacuuming out the back floorboard and moved the front driver's seat all the way forward and it would not move back. Tried all the above to no avail. Decided to sit directly behind the drivers seat and violently shake the drives seat front to back for 3 seconds....works fine now.

Wow, I've almost posted a thread asking if this rest really as far upright as the seat went a few times. Had just chalked it up to weird design and/or some kind of newer safety requirement to keep folks from cramming themselves up against the steering wheel. Adding this to the list of things to bring up for warranty work whenever I roll enough miles onto the car for its first service under my ownership.

Just to expand a little, mine tops out at a fairly reclined angle and then just starts to raise/tip the seat bottom along with it and I run out of headroom if I need a haircut, lol.

I have a 2015 G80 ultimate 5.0 and the seat back has stopped inclining to the more upright part of the range. It’s still drivable but is definitely not ideal. It seems to have drifted to a more reclined position very slowly over the past year or so and is doing it so slowly that I didn’t notice until it got pretty far back. That’s when I realized that it won’t go back up to the more vertical setting. Hopefully they will be able to do the reset without having to replace any part. I’m out of warranty now and have a GV70 on order, don’t want to have to spend a lot of money on fixing problems at this point.

It'll be interesting to see what the (through Ford) warranty response is whenever I get around to taking mine in. Because, like you said, it's not topping out at a particularly ridiculous angle, just more reclined than I'd prefer. But every car I've ever owned before would go more upright than anybody would ever actually want and I sort of suspect ours should, too. Hopefully the passenger seat goes up noticeably farther and gives me a solid, "look at the other side" example to argue my point if they act like it's normal.

Bumping this old thread again as I'm finally getting around to addressing this. I had the car in for a recall and service appt a couple weeks ago and found they'd substantially changed the seat position and, in trying to get it back to where it felt "normal" again, I've come to believe it's slipped a little further, as others have said theirs did.

I've not gotten the impression my local Genesis dealer is particularly well versed in these DH sedans, so I thought I'd see if anybody has more definitive/detailed explanation of the root cause and solution to this weird issue.

It's really just like the adjustment range has slipped -- it doesn't pop/click/whine/etc, just smoothly goes up and down and stops well shy of upright as though that's the top of its range.

The dealer is telling me I'll have to drop it off with them for a few days so they can look at it. My concern is they tear the seat down substantially to diagnose, then end up stalled out trying to authorize warranty repair through the Ford warranty and I'm stuck without wheels for days on end. Biggest reason I've just lived with it the last year, but it's either bugging me worse now or has in fact worsened.

I had a recline issue where the seat back would not go straight enough. The dealer did some kind of software reset on the seat and it is fine now.

About to call the dealer again on this. Last time they put me off and never called back... In the meantime, I found this procedure for resetting the seat memory system that seemed worth trying: https://www.hgenesisdh.com/resetting_the_driver_s_seat_memory_system-1236.html

And, of course, I couldn't get my car to behave as the procedure says it should. As I read it, you're supposed to adjust the seat and seatback fully forward and upright, then press and hold the set button and seat bottom forward button until it begins chiming and the car adjusts the seat to the ends of its range and then to its center. Mine just chimes once and then nothing further.

My local dealer never implies any DH-specific expertise when I talk to them. For instance, I keep asking them to update the nav system because I don't have a working SD reader anymore and they both seem dumbfounded by the request and then never address it when they say they'll check. But I would assume they've got a desktop somewhere with the current file(s) already saved and a card reader to do just this. Seems like "check version and update" ought to be part of their regular service, to be honest. Thinking about calling the next closest dealer and seeing if they act any smarter.

Invest $8 and get a SD card reader that plugs into a USB port. Amazon has a dozen different ones. I prefer to do it myself rather than sit at a dealer for 45 minutes. I can take a ride while it updates.

If you don't take the excellent suggestion above, you can just order the SD card already loaded.

I know -- I'm just being lazy with it. But I also figured it'd be something that dealership could've taken care of while they had it in for other service. And they just kind of acted dumbfounded about it in a "gee your car's really old" way.

I had similar issues on driver seat. Resetting "stops" only worked for about a year or so. Dealer had to work with a Hyundai Engineer directly in Korea. Iirc, listed replacement part is incorrect and there is some connector that's missing but seat still works if it's not pluged in but malfunction (doesn't recline forward correctly) after some time.

Not that simple. The car cannot be turned off and restarted during the process so it cannot go on while doing other services. It takes 30 to 45 minutes for the update. Do you want to sit at the dealership or in the comfort of you home while this is going on?
