  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Easy to change color of light bulbs in 2011 Genesis?

I just bought my Genesis today...and on the way home, I realized that I don't have HID lights (at least, I don't think I do). They are that nasty yellow color, and I hate it. I just think that color looks cheap.

Can I change that color to the brighter white or blue-ish tint? Is that just as easy as changing bulbs? Secondly, how easy is it to be replace the bulbs?

Thanks everyone!

Not easy on the 4.6. Can't speak on the 3.8.

Don't bother changing the bulbs....it will more than likely reduce your light output. If you still want to change them....then install an HID kit with 4300k bulbs.

Is that something the dealer can do for me, or would it be a lot cheaper to have someone else do it?

Also, is there any particular brand that you guys recommend for the kit? Will the different colors of light require more power from my battery, or does buying the kit provide everything needed for HID?

What are you driving? a 2011 4.6 v8 or 3.8 v6. The yellow bulbs that are on at the same time as the low beam HID on 4.6 are a small 194 bulb which can be replaced with a LED super white. The High beam is not HID but can be replaced with a 6000k bulb which will give you the blue tint of the low beam HID. We did this kind of switch out on our Mercedes because we did not like the two colors of lights. Have not done it yet on the Genesis because the bulbs are hard to get to.

I've got the 3.8 V6. I don't think the lights are HID. They are of yellow color. I don't particularly care if they are HID or not, but I just don't like the yellow color. If the only way to change the color is to get an HID kit, then I'll do that.

I think you can find what you want on this company's website. I think you are looking for around 5000 to 6000k bulb. http://www.buyheadlightbulbs.com/

Walmarts w/ auto centers sometimes carry the 4300K/5000K bulbs and the one near me installs for free w/ purchase.

You can do what you would like, but all I'm trying to explain is that the human eye doens't pick up blue spectrum very well....think above 5,000k. Also, when going above the HID OEM of 4300k you are losing light output in the bulb, so going with some bulb that's 6000k at the local store etc. maybe harmful to your safety and others. Sounds like you could use some more information to throw around in the ol' noggin' http://www.danielsternlighting.com/

The first step is to get educated. There are a lot of products on the automotive lighting market, most of which are claimed to be upgrades. Some of them are, but many of them are downgrades, and some of them are dangerous and illegal.

I have those nasty yellow lights on my 3.8. Best car lights I've had in many years, especially with the fog lamps on.

I thought the crappy halogen headlights just did not go with the car. I have a 2012 and the accent LED in the headlight is white and it really makes the halogens look even worse.

I upgraded to a genuine Philips kit, 4200K and couldn't be happier. The output is incredible and the light is truly white. Don't waist your time with Halogens, put a high-quality HID kit, there is no comparison.

I purchased my kit at www.philipshidkits.com. You need an H11 kit. Use the coupon code genesis15 for a 15% discount. The kit comes out to be $ 212 shipped and is worth every penny.

You will be very happy with an HID upgrade. When I installed one side, I lit it up and compared it to the stock halogen. It made the halogen appear as if it were a 6 volt light, like something was wrong with it.

Look at the attached pic. You can see the beam pattern on my garage door. The front of the car is only 2 feet from the door. The left is the HID and the right is the stock halogen. Not only is the HID light output white, the beam pattern is so much larger. If you need help with it send me a PM and I will assist you.

HIDs require more power to start up, but less after they are up and running. The kit worked fine connected directly to the stock headlight socket, but I added a relay harness after the install. There was no noticible difference when I added the relay harness.

Bought kits from DDM tuning over a year ago for my Honda m/c. No problems so far.

I read in the user manual for the Genesis that after-market HID kits can cause problems with the stereo. Will this happen? Any experiences of this?

I have experienced no radio issues with the installation of after-market HID headlights and have never read anything on this forum about it.

I could see perhaps some radio frequency interference, but the radio antenna is toward the rear of the vehicle.

If you experience RFI there are some simple solutions. You can add in an EMC filter on the power lines or shield the ballast. Both very simple and in expensive solutions.

Attached is a pic of the color of the Philips HID, 4200K. It matches the LED light bar very well.
