  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

EPA finds Hyundai, Kia overstated gas mileage

My car is a 10' so this doesn't effect me but I have a footnote. The MPG on the computer is not accurate. Mine has been consistently high by 1.5 MPG when compared to manual calculation. Mileage/Gallons. 27.2 on computer and 25.7 manually on last tank. 75% highway and 25% city.
That discrepancy is consistent with what others reported a few years ago on this forum. Also, MPG displayed seems to decrease a bit from when the tank is filled to the time it is empty (more accurate by the time it is empty).

Folks, one other thing - this is an annual payback. The dealer told me that and I didn't think that was right. It is on the claim form and I confirmed when I called the number on the form. You just have to file a claim every year you own the car.

We all know the two companies stepped up voluntarily with their repayment program, and frankly, that should be enough and the end of it.

Some people might throw some "cultural" stuff into the mix -- "they all lie", etc. Have fun with that, but my experiences have been different where with Korean and certain other Asian companies of this scale and stature, honor, name reputation and integrity are core values, and regarded above short-term prosperity.

You are correct Sir. I've had the same experience in all of the Asian countries I have visited as well. Which is about half of them. ;) And it's not just in the large companies, it's in their daily lifes as well. It's part of their culture. Maybe that's why I have a different perspective on the issue.

Go ahead Mark, get your barf bag along with your refund. :) And go back several pages and read you'll see what EXBMW is talking about. ;)

As for my 2012, my MPG on the computer matches what I calculate when I fill up. Guess they fixed it then for the newer models. ;)

I'm pretty sure you get a debit card... and you can submit your mileage at any intervals YOU decide to get your money. At least that's how I read the fine print.

[EDIT] Found it:

Owners will receive a debit card with reimbursement based on the above formula. In addition, as an acknowledgment of other small costs and the inconvenience this may cause, we will add an extra 15% to your reimbursement amount. Current owners are eligible for subsequent reimbursements as frequently as desired for as long as they own their vehicle.

Crusty,

I respect your decision. But that $20 you hand back is probably just going to end up in the pockets of some executive...

My wife needs a new vacuum. They're not cheap.

That's why I have hard wood floors. ;)

You are one of the few around I do respect. I will think no less of you.
