  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My wife and I live is west central Georgia, we are both 46 years old and have two children in college. My wifes Tahoe let her down Friday morning and with 350,400 miles on the odometer she does not feel it will continue to be dependable. I had the Tahoe towed to the local Chevy/Hyundai dealer. Once on the dealers lot I noticed a car I thought she would like.

I had the dealer deliver to her place of business a new 2013 Hyundai Equus in white satin pearl and cashmere. She liked the car BUT feels it is a bit fancy for us. I drove the Car for several miles and I must admit the solid feel of the car is nice. Again BUT, features like the power rear seats, rear seat stereo controls and massaging drivers seat would never be used. So that being said, at the dealers suggestion we have located a 2012 Genesis 5.0 and are going to look and test drive it in the morning. We were told the 5.0 in white is not available in the 2013 year model. The 2012 model seems to have everything we are looking for except the air ride adjustable suspension which we both loved with the ride of the Equus.

I think the Genesis 5.0 comes standard with most of the available features except those we did not think we would ever use. I think the power offered with the 5.0 engine is a reasonable increased expense considering the options that come standard on the 5.0 model. My question to you is with the limited information we have on a Genesis is there anything we should know before a purchase.

There is a lot of information here, and I'd suggest you use the search function as a place to start. I don't know if there are comprehensive reviews of the 5.0 Genesis, but there are several of the R-Spec, which has the same engine, but is a little softer in the suspension, has different wheels. and may have slightly modified (less aggressive) transmission shift points.

The 2013 models have some desirable features not available on the 2012, including the BlueLink system, streaming Bluetooth audio, and others I'm not sure of. Definitely. 2013 is worth a look, even if you may have to compromise on color.

I did a review of my 2011 R-Spec, which I can say, at 23,000 miles now, I'm as happy or happier today than I was for the 10,000 mile write up. The car has been trouble-free, rattle-free and worry free.

Good luck.

I have searched and read most threads on the Genesis 5.0 and R-Spec which the later are plentiful. However, there are not so many informative threads that separate the 5.0 model from the R-Spec. I am sure they both had/have individual selling points.

The streaming Bluetooth audio and Blue Link systems not being available on the 2012 is the sort of information I am looking for EXBMWGUY, thank you.

The car will be my wifes daily driver and she loves the white so I am more willing to move up a model to the Equus than to compromise on the color combination. She will drive the car until it is no longer dependable, that being 100,000 miles or 300,000 miles so resale value is not nearly as important as enjoying what ever she selects.

I have read all I can find on the 5.0 model during the week but if there are any quirks or particulars that some present owners can bring to our attention before the purchase, they will be well received. If the 2013 R-Spec could be ordered in pearl white we would have an easy purchase.

Yes, the 2013 R Spec is definitely available in pearl white. However, you would be foolish to overlook driving a 3.8 V-6 Genesis. What's not to like about 333 hp? Try it, you'll like it. Also, if Bluetooth audio streaming is important to you, be sure to have demonstrated to you in any car before you purchase it. I don't recall that it has been confirmed to be available in the 2013 models. For 2012, Bluetooth audio streaming is not available in tech package equipped vehicles. It is available, however, in the base model and premium package vehicles like mine.

I might be wrong but I think only the Equus has the adjustable suspension.

The 5.0 non-R Spec (in every color) was discontinued for '13.

The '13 5.0 R Spec is a available in white w/black interior.

FOR 2012 MODEL ONLY: I looked up an old post by me on what the R Spec has (or does not have) as compared to the 4.6L. I'll try to focus on the non R Spec 5.0L though:

You are not missing much, pal...
  • "R-Spec" sport transmission, suspension and steering calibrations
  • 19" wheels (vs. 18")
  • 22 extra lbs of curb weight
  • Dark chrome headlamp inserts
  • Rear "R Spec" badge
  • "R Spec" embroidered floormats
  • Black/Charcoal-colored simulated woodgrain trim (vs. brown)
  • No simulated wood trim on the steering wheel
  • Available Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position summer performance tires option (who cares, just buy them yourself for way cheaper)
  • No white!!! Only 3 exterior colors available: Black, Titanium & Platinum
  • Only black interior available
  • A grand or so less cash in the wallet

I erased the differences that don't apply. Hope that helps.

2013's only come in 3.8L and 5.0L R Spec versions. No 4.6L nor 5.0L Non R Spec.

My wife and I test drove several cars today. I am 6'3" tall and the only Cadillac I was comfortable in was the XTS Platinum. The XTS in my humble opinion did not ride as plush as the Genesis and the interior though nice looking did not feel like it should have been in the flagship sedan of the Cadillac.

The Genesis had enough room for me to be comfortable in the driver and front passenger seats. I positioned the front seats to be comfortable for me and then a pleasant surprise. I got out of the car, walked to the rear door, I sat in the rear seat and found that I had plenty of room there as well without moving the front seats forward. This car is has more useable interior space than it appears. The test drive was pleasant and uneventful. The Genesis rides smooth and comfortable. I was pleased with the ride and quietness at interstate speeds. Back at the Dealership a brief walk around sealed the deal.

I have ordered a winged steering wheel/Airbag cover, four winged 18" wheel center caps, asked the dealer to remove the grill and all exterior emblems. I will have the gray area of the grill painted black. Dealer says BlueLink can be a dealer added feature and they are checking into the price installed. Thank you all for your input.

Congrats.... very interested on how your dealer will accomplish the BlueLink. I was told it was not possible. Please keep us posted.

Welcome!

The salesman could be blowing smoke to close a deal. He showed me a car with BlueLink and said the dealership added it to that particular car. He was always on track walking us through the options and showing us how they worked so... maybe... time will tell and I will post the outcome here.

This forum has a lot of valuable information pertaining to the cars we have chosen. I have much to learn about the car as I only have been reading and looking into them for a week but after driving many other new large sedans with similar options this week, I feel I have purchased the best car in this field for what I believe to be a STEAL.

I went to the dealer today to see about getting a BlueLink system installed in my 2012 Genesis.

When I bought the car the service department quoted me $900.00 for the BlueLink equipment and said they would charge me cost for the installation. I asked for a rough estimate for a complete installation and they said they would figure the hours and get back to me. Today they estimated the installation at 22 hours labor and with the misc. supplies to figure in the neighborhood of $3000.00.

I don't feel that even with the savings made buying a 2012 I would want to invest three thousand dollars in the BlueLink system. All said and done I am NOT going to have them install the system. I am still happy with the deal.
