  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, now that my car is up and running again I figured it would be a good time to get my car set up for its first service. I contacted my local Genesis dealership, the one that jerked me around about my repair in the first place, and they quickly and nicely set up valet service for 2 days later - pretty quick!

Sure enough, one of their techs came down with a beautiful Havana Red 2.0 RWD G70 8spd. He gave me an estimate of how long it would take and what they would do, then drove my car back to the dealership.

I figured I'd take the 2.0 for a spin and see how it compares to my 3.3 AWD. Sure enough, the RWD and smaller engine certainly feels lighter, and although the power was adequate, I found myself missing the nearly instant torque you get from the 3.3. Even so I had fun, even launching it made the rear tires squeal a little bit. Sweet!

I popped the hood and started nerding out about the differences between mine and this, and immediately felt jealous about all the glorious room in the engine bay! I'm hoping to see more aftermarket support for the 2.0! There is so much room for a nice downpipe, intake, and even a turbo upgrade. Take a look!

Anyway, when the driver brought my car back we had some good car talk going, seemed like a pretty cool guy.

After he left I looked closer at my car. They handwashed the exterior, and it looked pretty good (though I do a better job myself, obviously, haha) but they didn't do anything to the interior, even though they told me theyd vacuum and detail the inside. Oh well. He also told me they would spray underneath the car and take off the underside panels, but I haven't verified if they did that or not. Not really holding them to it. Lastly, I asked what oil they used, he told me Motorcraft synthetic blend. Ugh. I'll just plan on changing it myself when I hit 6k miles with good oil. Haha.

In the end, i think in some ways my dealer is really trying to give Genesis customers a good experience, but they're definitely lacking in some areas.

Oh, one last thing. I have a small rock chip on my front grill camera I noticed a while ago, I asked if they could replace it under warranty, and they told me it's not covered. They won't even try to send a warranty claim.

Good news is that the Genesis site is saying there's another Genesis dealer in my area that's even closer, which evidently is new, as prior to that, this dealer (Vancouver, WA) was the closest one, then one in Bend, OR - who has been AWESOME to talk to over the phone, but they're 4.5 hours away so it's a tough sell to go down there for service.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience with this dealer. I haven't been the happiest customer so far, but I suppose it could be worse! They did get me in very quickly, and did most of what they said they'd do. Haha.

I remember an old thread here about Oil change where we were discussing about what oil the dealer should put in or cars and I said they will put the cheapest one. I've been dealing with Hyundai/Genesis for many years and my conclusion is that they sell excellent cars with the worst and appalling dealer services (at least here in South Florida). When I heard about the Complementary service with all the bells and whistles I knew (again, here in South Florida) that dealers would do sh..t and wouldn't do what Genesis USA says. Unless they completely separate Genesis dealers from Hyundai dealers we still will be suffering from bad services, hideous costumer service and costumer abuse in general.

They did hire a guy from Infiniti to oversee the dealers. They intended to start with 100 dealers and were forced into having 400+ so it is time to thin the number and whip them into shape.

I'm aware of this and I know it will be very difficult to achieve with their low car sales, that's why the need desperately to start selling the GV80 and other SUVs added to their wonderful sedan line. That's the only way they could get an standalone Genesis dealer network.

So later that day after my valet service, I spoke to the service manager over the phone and she informed me that I don't have a full warranty on my car. She said I have an "A99" warranty, due to my car having a branded title. I asked her to clarify what this means, and she said that I don't have the full 10 year warranty on my car. She asked if my car had been totalled in an accident... Nope. She asked if I was the first owner (3rd time she asked me!) and I told her yes, I f*cking flew across the entire continental United States to buy my damn car, and by the way the dealership I bought it from was kick ass... basically the complete opposite of you guys (I didn't say that.)

Everything I was telling her didn't seem to change her attitude of thinking that I was some shady jerk. Oh man... The irony! Hah!

I called Genesis Customer care and told them the issue. Why don't I have a warranty on my brand new car? Did I ever have one? The rep told me that it's possible the DMV did something weird.... As soon as he said that, memories of those assholes' pompous attitude of not giving a sh!t about anybody flooded my mind, and instantly I just know that they did this. Those assholes totally did this! It was the biggest pain on the ass to get my car registered because of those idiots and their complete and total incompetence. I know they jacked up my title somehow.

Anyway, Genesis assigned me a case number and now I wait. I hope they can get to the bottom of this, because I have no idea what to do. If I don't have my warranty then I can't help but feel that this car is a ticking time bomb after hearing of random stories about G70s AC compressors going out, transmission coolers failing, roofs rattling, and who knows what else!

I just can't catch a break with this thing.

How did you drive the car back? It had to have a tag of some sort so the original dealer did some paperwork. Your state may have interpreted that as you being a second owner, even if you were also the first owner.

Good luck getting a clerk at the DMV to understand it.

I think you need to go to your DMV office ASAP, as you said the big mistake came from there. Talk to them and explain yous situation. Bring all your sale documents with you and make them clear that you are not getting your brand new car warranty (between other things) because of their mistake. Ask Genesis USA to contact them to corroborate your story. Make the DMV people responsible for any loss you can face in a future and if nothing gets solved hire a lawyer.

They didn’t tell you any of this when they were looking up your info the first time? You were asking about using your warranty then right when they told you all the table BS?

Where is this new one? I didn't find it on the corp site, probably because it doesn't have inventory yet. I live in the area too (Forest Grove) but I work in Portland.

According to the dealer info I have, Bend is the only Genesis dealer with a code in Oregon. There is an intermittent problem with the Dealer Search on Genesis.com showing the wrong results so maybe Todd ran into that.

The Genesis G70 health report email I get is saying that my local retailer is Tonkin Gladstone Hyundai. This seems to imply that they're able to service my car....but...

...if what Turtleboy is saying is true, which I'm sure it is, then it looks like I spoke too soon!

It could be that Genesis only considers dealers in the same state when looking at servicing dealers. If so, then you would be considered an Unassigned Genesis Brand Owner since your closest dealer would be more than an hour's drive away. That means you could get your Genesis serviced by a willing Hyundai dealer.

Then again, it could be they just didn't the logic in the Health email to only choose Genesis dealers.

I had my car shipped directly to me from the dealership. I used the Certificate of Origin to register my car here in Oregon. It was not titled before me, though it did have temporary tags from Michigan.

I highlighted your last sentence because I can tell you know exactly the type of people I'd be dealing with if I tried to resolve this myself by talking to them. Lol.

I'm with you, but I really think my best bet is to have Genesis try to resolve my issue. The clerks at the DMV are insufferably incompetent. It was insanely difficult to register my car - they have NO accountability, WHATSOEVER, despite going back on their own words several times. I know that if it comes down to me having to ask them to fix the title, then I'm screwed.

That's the funny thing. This service manager is so confusing I don't think even think she knows what she's saying. She did punch in my VIN initially and said I have a warranty, but she asked me the same things she did this time (ie, are you the original owner? Did your car have any sort of accident before you bought it?), I think she was implying that she saw something wrong with the warranty but she didn't tell me at the time. It wasn't until I asked her, later on after my valet service, about replacing the front camera when she told me, "oh btw, you have this A99 warranty which only covers so much, but regular maintenance is still included for a certain amount of time."

I hope this gets resolved to your satisfaction easily but I’m starting to think your car is haunted

I'm beginning to feel the same. Haha.

This is not the car. This is all the surrounding administrivia that is centered on the car. Add the resistant dealer staff, the creeping authoritarianism of the small people at the DMV, the variations of the selling dealer and differing state regimes.

Not familiar with the term "branded title" I looked it up and found this. Yes, you should get it corrected. To me, it makes no sense that you would have this but the DMV is probably confused by it all. You may have to get the selling dealer involved.

The general rule is that if a vehicle has a branded/salvaged title it has a value of about 50% of what that vehicle with a clean title would be worth. When a vehicle has a branded/salvaged title this means that the damage to vehicle has an estimate of repairs that exceed the value of the vehicle.

First thing Genesis Customer Care told me is that they'll get in touch with the dealership I bought it from.

Hopefully I'll have some more information after the weekend is over.

That's where my '15 5.0 was originally from, and was serviced there before the 1st owner traded it in (to get a lexus) and I got it. I just had it in for some warranty work at the Hillsboro Hyundai because they are closest to me. The service writer made sure it was a Hyundai, not a genesis, I assured them it had the flying H of the back trunk lid.

When i was looking at getting a new G70 from Bend earlier this year, the bend saleman told me I could get the courtesy service at this same Hillsboro Hyundai, but I don't expect it to be true just because I was told so by a salesman.

That line worries me. I was under the (perhaps mistaken?) impression that a car wouldn't have tags other than dealer tags unless it was previously titled.
