  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

First valet service

That line worries me. I was under the (perhaps mistaken?) impression that a car wouldn't have tags other than dealer tags unless it was previously titled.

In most (all?) states when you purchase a car from a dealer they issue temporary tags. This way you can drive it until the paperwork/information flows through the system to the license plate issuing authority.

In addition to the dealer and manufacturer and their interactions, there are the selling dealer, and state, and the owner's state and DMV, and another no one has mentioned which is the insurer. Has the insurer said that this car has a less than clear and clean new car paperwork? This makes my head hurt.

^Me too. I don't even know where to start other than Genesis themselves. I'll call them tomorrow to see if I can get an update.

There are two different things, having a car that was registered before you took ownership and a totaled (rebuild) car title. In your case both are wrong (and need to be fixed) but the consequences of ech are different. I the first case a you'll only loose the first owner Genesis warranty but in the second case added to your warranty issue your car will lose thousands of dollars in resale value. There is no doubt this problem needs to be fixed ASAP. Call Genesis USA again and if you are not satisfied just start calling the managers, CEO, COO or whatever they call them. Talk to @Beefer, I remembered he has some info about them. Good luck Todd.

^ In addition to the above there is also the insurance impact of a branded title. Should it be totaled, the payout will be based on the value of a previously totaled vehicle and not a "normal" one.

If I remember correctly, you purchased outright didn't you? If so, then you should have your title and in most jurisdictions there will be a notation on it denoting a previously salvaged vehicle. If you don't see that then question them as to why they think it is a branded title and for them to show proof. Depending one what they do then you will be able to determine your next steps.

Okay, that sorta makes sense. We do that here in Texas too. For some reason I misinterpreted that to mean the car had temp tags on prior to the sale. But then I ask myself, if the car was being shipped from Michigan, it would never be driven in Michigan and thus not need Michigan temp tags. But I'm assuming they were doing you a favor by issuing temp tags so the vehicle could be driven in the interim. But then that makes me wonder, how did they get it titled in Michigan without paying Michigan sales tax?

Ugh. Now my head is hurting.

in most, perhaps all, states you do not pay sales tax on vehicles if you are a resident of another state, you pay it to your home state if they charge it.

Temp tags are just part of the buying process and not part of titling the car car usually, that is handled once the financing, sales paperwork, etc. is processed.

Whoa. Just catching up here. I am at 4K miles now and dreading my visit to Vancouver. My Seattle purchased g70 has no other option for service unless I want to go to bend. Frankly I am never letting any of these slime balls drive my car. I will drive it to the dealer while they Change the oil or whatever. And no wash. I trust nobody but myself. I’ll take a loaner from them. I keep hoping for a new Portland dealer so I can avoid Vancouver. As a positive note I still see they have my exact car on the lot they wouldn’t sell to me under circle a so I had to go to Seattle. Screw them !

Todd I used the certificate of origin to register my leased car in Oregon. Too. I saw it at the dmv as the dealer had to ship it down. Your situation. I would be irate. WTH. Keep us posted. !

^Will do.

I called Genesis today and they said they don't have any update as of yet. I think I'll call the dealership I bought from and see what they say.

The car was new. I had the certificate of origin. I registered the car myself here in Oregon. There is no reason why I should have a f*cking branded title.

Why is a car dealer searching your title by the way during service.
They enter the VIN for every service and get warranty information. They don't search the title, they just get the information Genesis has from the sale and registration

So I just used the valet service for my second oil change on my car yesterday. Went very well. The dealer came and picked my car up at work, left me a nice silver 3.3t loaner, gave me a time estimate and had my car back to me before I got off work. They also gave me updates during the day. Over all I was very pleased.

UPDATE: Just finished speaking with Genesis Customer Care and they finally gave me the low down on why I have a limited warranty... Turns out the dealership notified Genesis of the "repair" they did when I brought my car in for the snapped stud, they also notified Genesis that I did the full and proper repair on my own.. I now have a limited warranty because it. They can choose not to cover something if they decide that my repairs are somehow related to a problem.

I shouldn't have brought it in to the dealership in the first place. I should've taken some time to calm down, then researched, then I could have found that I could do the repair on my own just like I eventually did.

I can't blame the dealership for ratting me out. They have their protocols to follow, but they certainly were a bunch of scumbags during the whole process.

Well, lesson learned. Hopefully others that do their own work and modifications can learn from my experience.

I dont get this. It is ILLEGAL for them to deny warranty because you made your own repairs. Sure they can flag it and can deny a claim if they find that something you did caused further issues, but they cant outright say you now have a 'limited warranty'. What is their definition of a 'limited warranty' anyways? Does this mean they will outright refuse to do any work on your engine from now on?

I took it from his description that it is basically a note attached to his vehicle so if there would be a warranty claim the dealer would need to determine if his repairs were the cause of the issue not that any future claims would be denied automatically. As you said, that would be illegal.

They described it as anytime my car is in for warranty related repairs, the dealership must contact Genesis for approval before providing said repairs.

If something bad happens I assume I'd have to fight them to get it covered, which would most likely be a huge ordeal. The thing I'm worried most is about my transmission. It's working fine; but, I've seen so many (relatively) reports of people having their transmissions need replacing despite normal use. I can imagine GMA being assholes to me because of my repair history. I assume I'd have the right to be covered by warranty, as I have my repairs documented, followed the steps outlined in the FSM (minus removing the engine - which they could probably use against me), and I used all Genesis branded parts. It would most likely have to go to court, which would take FOREVER, and honestly, wouldn't be worth my time, money, and frustration.

This is certainly disheartening.

Yup. Pretty much sums it up.

Hopefully reliability saves you from having to even worry about starting that fight. You’re right, they can more easily make it a pain for you and still stay within the technicalities of the law. I hope the future is bright and sunny for your car but I know this puts a dark cloud on ownership. Sorry man

Agreed. I appreciate the sympathy! Trying not to let it bring me down. Though I notice if I start thinking about it too much I begin to feel like jumping ship. Ugh.

I remember an old thread here about Oil change where we were discussing about what oil the dealer should put in or cars and I said they will put the cheapest one. I've been dealing with Hyundai/Genesis for many years and my conclusion is that they sell excellent cars with the worst and appalling dealer services (at least here in South Florida). When I heard about the Complementary service with all the bells and whistles I knew (again, here in South Florida) that dealers would do sh..t and wouldn't do what Genesis USA says. Unless they completely separate Genesis dealers from Hyundai dealers we still will be suffering from bad services, hideous costumer service and costumer abuse in general.

Truer words were never spoken. I think that the only thing I would add is that Genesis Connect (or whatever that POS "service" is called isn't much better. I'd get better results from dealing with a bunch of chimpanzees with headsets on than I have from dealing with Genesis personnel.

I've had my 2019 G80 3.3T for a little over a year now and haven't ben able to get them to do a damn thing. On several occasions, I've contacted them to set up service appointments for me. Each time, I've been placed on hold and then told that the local dealer never answered their phone. I've then been assigned a case number and informed that they will continue to reach out to the local dealer and then call me back when an appointment has been scheduled. Needless to say, I've never - - -NEVER - - - received the promised phone call(s). The only way that I've ever been able to schedule a service appointment was to contact the local dealer myself.

And forget about the vaunted valet service. Each time I've asked, I've been told that such service either isn't available, no cars are available, or that the soonest appointment for a valet pickup would be 3-4 weeks. However, there was no problem simply driving in myself the same day and waiting for the service to be performed.

Even though I'm not unhappy with the vehicle itself (aside from a couple of minor problems), they've managed to piss me off to such an extent that I don't think I'll be buying another Genesis product in the foreseeable future. The previous four automobiles I purchased before the G80 were two Jaguar XJLs, an MB SL500, and a Maserati Coupe 4200. Depending on my car needs in the next couple of years, I'll probably end up back with Jaguar.
