If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

flutter @ 25-30mph

My dealer only has ONE Genesis loaner that is reserved only for G80/G90 owners, so I always end up with a Hyundai Sonata or Tucson loaner. Whatever.....

Yeah I don't care much, they said they have 3 (v8 and maybe even a sport) going into loaner inventory, so I'm looking forward to driving, at the very least, a newer model year to see what's different.

I'm perfectly happy with a Sonata or whatever...I actually asked on the off chance to see if they had a AWD Santa Fe loaner, as my wife and brother in law are both considering one. We had one for a week in Florida (rented on Turo - awesome experience) and for the money, I don't think the 7-passenger Santa Fe can be beat.

It's sad when you know the dealerships loaner inventory since you been there so much lol.

This is covered under the 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty is that correct?

I'm looking at buying a 2015 3.8L V6 (AWD) and this thread is a bit concerning.
The car has 55k miles on it so is well within warranty.

well they changed my driveshaft 2 weeks ago guess what the noise is BACK !!!!

JIMMY! Did you go for a third driveshaft or what? Did they not replace the propeller assembly? I would be fuming if it came back :(

It is covered by the powertrain warranty. Damn though, sorry to hear the flutter came back. If this happens to me I'm done. I'll be making a bee-line to the closest Carmax dealership

Can you feel the flutter or is it an annoyance only? Sadly doesn't sound like they'll run a recall unless it's "dangerous"... But I say if it is annoying, that raises blood pressure and that leads to stress which leads to heart disease. So it IS dangerous to drive

Curious DWIL80 what would you go with if you were to drop this at your local Carmax? (knock on wood you won't have to)

The shutter is very annoying sound wise. For replacement cars, I had a few in mind in the $25-$30k max range: 2013' or 14' Lexus LS 460, 2013-14' Jaguar XJ-L, Acura TLX w/ AWD Tech package, 2017 Buick LaCrosse AWD, or go totally opposite route and look for a low mileage 15 or 16' Range Rover Evoque, with a 3rd party ext warranty of course :-)

I still stand by that a used Genesis, for the money ($25k range) provides performance, tech features, and style that is the best bang for the buck. That said, the amount of small things that have crept up are really starting to bother me and erode my ownership experience. To make matters worse, I had the dealer address some rock chips on my hood last week, and noticed they smudged some touch up paint onto my hood right above the front headlight. Yet another thing I'll need to battle them on.

Believe it or not I feel the same, for the price it can't be beat, but the small annoying things that have crept up is really making me rethink about this car.

I have checked the Jag yet, but the 14 LS460 feels so dated compared to the genesis.

When you say dated, do you mean infotainment wise? I'll tell you what, I agree on the tech front, but no one buys a LS 460 for the tech, you buy it for the smooth ride and power delivery of the v-8...and the lexus reliability

Spot on brotha, but I think its more than just that everything feels dated or old inside, and the interior seems super fragile. All 3 I test drove the interior just feels worn out. I think you're gonna miss some of the tech the ultimate genny has, and the infotainment system in the LS is horrid looking.

I haven't test drove enough 13+ model year LS's to form an opinion. I do agree that that pre-2013 models are super dated at this point (I owned a 2010 460 prior to the Genesis) and agree that I would miss the tech. My wife's car is a 15' Highlander that uses the same infotainment system as the 13+ MY LS, and while serviceable for basic navi and radio needs, it severely lacks any of the advanced features for phone integration.

It is hard to match the performance, features, and value of the Genesis. If it only had the reliability and similar dealership / ownership experience of a Toyota / Lexus would be great

Lol, I don't know the fleet, it's not that bad. The service manager came out and told me that yesterday. Thought it was a nice gesture, to try to get me into a nice loaner...even though I technically don't qualify.

I would assume at some point that flutter/resonance would lead to other driveline issues. As it could affect the safety/driveability of the car AND if you're at the dealer more than 3 times for the same issue...it could qualify for a buyback under lemon law.

My saga continues.

I'll start by saying my dealership has been fantastic to work with! But they tried tightening motor mounts and doing something with rebalancing the drive shaft. And the noise is back. Taking her back in soon.

I had a '18 G80 with Tech last time around, and I thought I would want a new one and man was I wrong. Didn't like carplay at all, the 8" system was supper laggy compared to my 9.2", I missed my all-powerful DIS knob, and I felt like the '18 G80 was slower, and sat higher than my '15 ultimate. My wife, who isn't a car person at all, said mine felt 'tighter and faster'. The '18 was a bit quieter, which was nice.

On the plus side, I get a V8 ultimate loaner this next time I go in :) hopefully they'll just replace the prop shaft this time!

I had the propeller assembly replaced and it resolved the fluttering issue. I provided a copy of my work order from the dealer below

They ordered me a whole new drive shaft for mine so hopefully that fixes the problem.

Thanks! They say that's what they're doing for me next (loaner still not available) so fingers crossed!

Good luck man, hope they fix it for ya!

Have the same noise on my 17 G80. 114k miles on the car as I type this and aside from annoying sound I don't think this causes any other issues.

Hello, Mark Poisson,

It is the drive-shaft assembly. I have a 2016 Genesis sedan 3.8L and since the moment I bought it, I noticed an unusual flutter each morning between 26 mph and 30 mph on a flat, level surface. This week the noise intensified. Dealership service adviser drove it about, ordered a new drive-shaft assembly.

I have the same issue on 2016 3.8 RWD Ultimate for few months now. It is become more prominent now and taken to the dealer. They could hear the sound but, not able to identify the source of it. So sent me back saying any adjustment need to be out of pocket unless it is failed part. I have sent the details from this thread and ask them to take a look at it.

Plan to drop it off another diagnostic next week. This getting bad day by day now and the sound is coming almost all the time at ~25~30mph even with mild acceleration.

Spark,

It is a propeller shaft assembly. Dealer installed mine last week (part number 49100-B1300). Photo attached, download it.
