  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

flutter @ 25-30mph

Has anyone had solely the vibration without the sound? I don't have the flutter but there's a prominent vibration at these speeds with the exact same conditions as the flutter

Yes, I have had the vibration without the flutter too. (It reminds me if a similar issue I have with my 2011 Odyssey. When the A/C compressor is turned on at idle, it sets up a sympathetic vibration with another component. Honda even issued a bulletin about it. The only solution there was to replace an expensive component and hope it goes away.)

I think Hyundai just missed this particular issue in their design of this vehicle. They must do NVH testing and this particular issue got by them.

The interesting test would be to switch to neutral when the vibration is felt. I would suspect that if it's still felt in neutral, it's not a transmission (tires or something else). However, if the vibration is not there in neutral, it's a good indicator that the vibration is caused by the transmission. I will try to test once I get the car back, meanwhile if someone with vibration wants to test this out and report back, that would be great. BTW, I did specifically ask the dealer to check the engine mounts and was told they looked great...

Is this just known problem for 2015 and 2016 G80? What about newer models? Just considering all the factors: goes away after warmup makes me think it's fluid related but this is just my off the wall comment. I've owned AWD Galant and the noise I got from the driveshaft was very similar to what I'm hearing in my G80. Galant had the noise due to shaft mount bushings being worn-out and made shaft rattle/flutter during decel. I hear flutter on acceleration and decel on G80. Right at around 30mph. It's too obvious we all have the exact same problem. I'm just amazed this issue hasn't been resolved! I have a remote start and it's cold in MN. I'm going to warm up the car before going to work in the morning. Just to check off and make sure fluid just needs little warmup or it's something else.

I use remote start as well and the problem persists so I don't suspect that's the culprit. I will try the neutral idea in the morning and update on results. I'm also curious if this is still an issue on the models post 2016

They LOOK good ,but

Still vibrates in Neutral
After you put the car in neutral and you are moving no less than 30mph take the steering wheel and zig zag the car from left to right and see if that changes the frequency. If so wheel bearing ? Just a thought. I would try it and see if you get results. 🙂

Well, it was 26 degrees this morning and I did warm up the car and drove without any flutter noise at 30mph. I will warm up the car and try it again going home.

Still vibrates in Neutral

Interesting... This most likely means that we are not dealing with the transmission issue. Thanks for testing! I am still waiting for my car to be ready so I can validate the dealership claim that with different wheels and tires they don't feel any vibration

Yes please let us know if it straightened you out. That would be a nice thing if it was fixed?

Yes, it would be very nice, the car was at the dealership for 45 days total for this problem alone. In all honesty, I would be very surprised if all this vibration that many of us experience is tires related, but I may be totally wrong...

Wow 45 days? That's crazy. Like U said earlier I hope they got the problem solved.

I also had a little vibration, 2 bent rims I just verified the second bent rim today. This after the dealer had it and tire place down the road. I had to remove tires myself and check them out.

It is getting harder and harder to find people who actually give a crap!

Weird. How can it be the rims/tires? Everyone states it happens around 30mph. This is definitely drivetrain problem. I warmed the car drove couple of miles and Bam at 30mph hear flutter. I'm going to monitor this for a bit. I don't understand how warming up the vehicle would help eliminate the noise? I didn't think transmission will be warmed up just by starting the car. Noise level differs bit time to time. why? I'm eliminating the exhaust shield. I wouldn't rule out the tranny. Being that this is so specific at 30mph, it could be the gear at that exact moment happening to all the G80s. I'm just like everyone here. Need to know the exact cause to fix the noise. I don't think it's big enough issue to warrant a recall.

I understand, them kind of noises would really bother me. I hope you guys can get it figured out.

I'm looking to buy a 2018 G80 5.0 Ultimate. While searching for one I came across two that were priced about $4K below the average prices. After speaking with the dealer, they sent a Carfax report that mentioned these two vehicles were manufactured buy backs and now have Lemon Titles... the issue? Unrepairable drive shaft propeller noise and flutter. So if you're having this issue, and have taken it to be repaired (under warranty) three times or more without any satisfaction - with Lemon Laws, the manufacturer is obligated to buy the car back, or give you a new one. Check out your state's Lemon Laws (not all States have them). In the case of the two cars I've looked at, Genesis bought them back...the owners were either given new vehicles, or full refunds.

The noise appears to be caused by a rear driveshaft. Mine went away after the driveshaft was replaced. A month later, the car developed noticeable vibration in the driver's seat around the same speed. I believe that it's no coincidence that both symptoms (vibration and noise) are felt between 28-32 Mph, unfortunately, I am not able to prove it yet. If it's a specific gear as you suggested, then the vibration will not be felt in neutral, which as I understand is not the case according to the previous posts...

I wish I can track the noise down? Acceleration and deceleration the noise is noticeable. Flutter= light blapblapblapblap sound or light taptaptap sound. I hear it from the passenger side. Will have passenger to determine proper location. It can't be the rear shaft. They keep replacing but never fixed. Problem is somewhere else.

Just to clarify, only if this happens to a new car. Lemon Law in most states applies to the new cars only. When I sent a letter to Hyundai asking them to repurchase the vehicle if it's not fixed, this was the first thing they stated when they called back. Used cars, even the CPOs, do not qualify for the Lemon Law buyback in my state...

UPDATE. Picked up the car (finally!) and doing some testing. They appear to have replaced rims and tires, I will have more details tomorrow if they re-used my rims since the service adviser was not sure, but the tires are definitely new. The vibration is still there, although much less noticeable. It also vibrates in Neutral which effectively excludes the transmission issues. Next step for me is to work with the tire shop owner (who I have known for 25 years) to confirm that the rims and tires are good. He may have some ideas.... While I don't believe this vibration is tires related, the questions I now have, after driveshafts and transfer case having been replaced, are:
1) What makes the car vibrate in Neutral AND gear at 30 Mph
2) Why swapping the tires made it much less noticeable
