Fog Lights Bulb Size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

Re: Fog lights bulb size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

How many degrees do you figure that extra 10 watts added? I'm wondering what owners in Phoenix are going to do in the summer when the ambient temp is much higher!

are you in Phoenix?

PM, thanks. Love to see your Genesis.

Re: Fog lights bulb size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

JONAH!!!
Fancy meeting you here! HA!

Even though we did not meet, I felt as if we did. It was a pleasure to meet you Jonah!

Again, I am now skiddish of the stock bulbs and so I will probably go on and get the HID's. You will not need to change out the stock harness for the HID's. Actually, you will add a small harness to it with the HID kit. The install is super easy.

Ill keep you posted over the next few weeks.

Nice to "meet" you too! I couldn't believe when I left Osaka that there was another Genesis parked next to mine; I've never even seen another one here in Olive Branch. It had a wing emblem too! I saw it was a V8, very interesting... I saw the plate, AL, and started thinking, could it be? No... well, hmmm, let's just have a look at the fog lights... Sure enough, I could see exactly what you'd been talking about and knew it had to be your car. My wife and daughter were with me, they couldn't believe it either. Then I saw your note that confirmed it, cool!

Anyway, congrats on the baby shower if it's for you!

And let me know how it goes with the HID fogs, I know it can't be all that hard, but since times are tight and they aren't exactly cheap, I want to be sure they will work and work well before I commit. From looking around you can tell there are lots of companies selling HID kits, I wonder what the bottom line is on which ones are better than others, which ones you should stay away from, etc.

If you decide to go ahead with it take lots of pics! Then we'll do the main lights too and be set.

Did you notice mine had the LED drl/position lights? I just did them, highly recommend it, super cool.

Anyway, take care!

What did you use for the H7 DRL/high beam bulb? I wouldn't think I'd want to lose the high beams to put LEDs in there. The position (i.e. parking) lights are easy to do but I would think that the shield around the DRL/high beam bulb would defeat the purpose of putting LEDs in there.

[HERE IS THE UPDATE:

I removed the old fogs and replaced with new ones and I added an aftermarket HID Kit and it turned out BEAUTIFUL.

Total investment:

NEW FOGS $388
3000K YELLOW HID KIT: $59 from ebay

Respoonse: Fog Lights Bulb Size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

Could you please post the Ebay number or seller of the HID lamps you bought? I'm all over HID for the fogs.
MAYBE this vendor could be offered a group buy for a discount.
Anyone else interested in the HID fogs?

BTW- HUGE thanks for the heads up on the bulb melting issue. I was getting ready to put mine in tomorrow! This board rocks!

Your Welcome! My loss you GAIN! LOL!

The seller was SUPERVTEC and the item #280318382373.

I purchased for 59.99 and free shipping. Now, I have had SEVERAL hid kits from ebay and to me this one has a 1 year warranty and will probably last a year and a day. HA! I am hoping it will surprise me! Seems now that all the kits have become cheaper and built cheaper but I love the looks. Make sure you specify ****H8 YELLOW 3000K**** if you decide to purchase. The H8's have a snug fit and so you will need to line the bulbs up well and wiggle them a little to get them in. A snug fit is GOOD THING!

They are BRIGHT!!!!

Awesome! You've got to post some pics with them ON!!!

Thanks Jonah for your assistance with the position/DRL's!

I never would have thought to push those little black tabs IN first...HA!

Anywho, they look INCREDIBLE even when on all by themselves. To all those who have not changed out the little bulb in the headlights...DO IT...YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Pics will come, I wasted my battery in my camera taking pictures of the fog light housings.

Can you tell a difference in the brightness from the driver's seat at night? Do other cars flash you? Does the glare seem bad? Did this fix your previous fog light aiming issue you had after installing the yellow halogens??

I'm still on the fence about HID fogs, I want to, but I want to see yours first. Commence with the pics!! ;)

It is simply amazing at night time! I have yet to have another car flash me and the glare is VERY TOLERABLE. I let my wife drive the car from Burger King to the house the other night and I led in my Camry. My eyes were peeled to the rear view mirror the whole trip. There is some glare but it is not anthing that would cause me to high beam someone. I did not even have to flip the little button on my mirror for night time driving. I thought it was perfect and looks mean as he!! I have no more aiming issues. Amazingly enough...the fog lights have a great cutoff, similar to that of the HID housings.

Pics are coming...just have to find the time now...:p

Matt

PS: I blew the hood off a BMW Z4 last night!!! It was GREAT!

Awesome, glad to hear they're working and look like you want! Now I really want pics!!

It's funny you mentioned having your wife drive the car and you leading, I've thought about doing the same with mine. I also want her to drive around the block then come down our road nice and slow so I can see just how the HIDs with the new LED position lights look at different angles. All this time and effort to get lights the right way then you don't get to enjoy them as much while you drive 'cause you can't see them!

I think I'm going to go ahead and pick up one of the ebay HID kits and see what happens. I'm thinking of going with either 5000K (don't want blue, not if my low beams aren't) or 3200K yellow like yours, not sure. Does the color match what you wanted?

take care man

the yellow matches exactly what I wanted. However, now that I have the bright blue position lights and yellow fogs...Im thinking I want to change the D1S bulbs to a bluer hue. I think they are around 4300k stock as they are right now and I think 5000-6000k would set it off perfectly.

I have it written on my hand to "TAKE PICTURES OF FOGS" so...needless to say, it will be done tonight!!!!

have a great day!

I thought about changing out the D1S bulbs too but decided against it. I'm too worried about non-OEM quality bulbs ending up being less bright, or quick to fail, or not much of an improvement after all the work to remove the bumper cover.

All OEM HID installations use 4300K burners per DOT regulations. Differences in apparent color are a result of optical projector housing variations. That said, MADMOE seems happy with his so maybe you should give it a try...

I ordered a set of H8s from the same guy on ebay you did. How was the installation? When I put different halogens in it seemed like there was plenty of room. How was the kit? Pretty straight forward? Any surprises?

PICS!

Happy Easter

Well my new HIDs were shipped today (woot!) Not sure when they'll be here exactly but at this rate, PINGGOLF, i'll have pics of mine up before you do... ;-) c'mon!! you know you want to show them off!

:D:D:D LOL!

Probably so! I have been busting butt trying to get ready for our new little girl, who is scheduled to arrive in 3 weeks, that all of my attention has been focused on painting, hanging letters, putting furniture together and hanging trim.

Sorry! :p

Anywho, the wife is working tonight so I will have a SMALL opportunity to let my other duties rest for a few minutes...HA!

Of course, I am at work right now...and we cant even have cell phones with cameras...

Re: Fog lights bulb size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

****UPDATE****

Im sure most of you are aware of my foglight issue.

I have just returned from the dealership with $388.52 LESS in my checking account.

LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE!!!

Obviously, the chrome reflector in the housing is made of HAIR THIN plating and there is so much LOW-TEMP plastic that my extra 10 WATTS of light output MELTED all of the internals of the housings in both lights. I think I have found the first EL-CHEAPO skimpiness of a Hyundai vehicle.

To preface this...I am a lighting guru. I know what is safe and what will cost you more money in the long run when it comes to overpowering wire harnesses and relays. Three of my past rides were HID retrofitted (the right way), and I upgraded the fog light harnesses and relays to handle the wattage (heat). I have NEVER had an issue with the housings...until now.

To everybody: when it comes time to replace your fog lights...DO NOT go any higher in wattage that what is OEM. Like I mentioned earlier, I only went up 10 watts.

Once the new housing assemblies arrive I will post detailed pictures of what exactly happened. It is almost scarry. At the top of the passengers side light there is a DRIP that is a few mm above the bulb itself. Had that drip of plastic contacted the bulb...EEEEEKKKK...i dont even want to think about what could have happened.

SO, now I am going yellow HID's in the fogs. They draw half the wattage of the OEM bulbs. To be honest, I am almost a little scared to have the stock bulbs in there now because they get just as hot.

Anywho, again, LEARN FROM MY COSTLY MISTAKE!!

Question for you Ping,
You say that you used H8 Bulbs that were 10Watts more than stock. (45Watts). I've been under the impression that all H8 Bulbs are 35Watts.
H9 are 55Watts, etc. (forget what H10 or H11 are). Are you sure you used
H8's and not something else? Everywhere I see H8's for sale, it says they are 35 watt bulbs.

Hey bud...hope your doing well!

That was my mistake! Here is the listing where I purchased the bulbs from.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOKYA-H8-Hyper-Yellow-2500K-JDM-Head-Fog-Light-Bulbs_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQhashZitem3a52507e61QQitemZ250489110113QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

It was 55W H8, not 45W. I went up an additional 20W.

I have no clue as to what "35/55W" means, but that is what I bought. I referenced my feedback for the individual seller. Surely the bulbs I bought were not a dual filament bulb (HI-low)...

OK, now you got me worried. That H8 bulb, like all H8 bulbs is 35W. The 55 means that it puts out as much light as an ordinary 55W bulb. I telephoned the people at www.nokyausa.com (909-923-7500) to get that information.

Because you had problems as soon as you replaced the OEM H8, I doubt if the replacement H8 had enough time to melt the reflector in that one side. I'm thinking that perhaps there may have been a problem with the OEM which caused the meltdown.

Don't matter now, as you changed to HID.

Very well could have been...Thanks for that info!!!

The HID's are simply amazing. They have a little glare but nothing more than a Chevy Silverado's fog lights! HA!
