If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I previously post this as a response in another thread but hope by starting another thread on the subject it will get attention from someone that may have a solution to the issue.

This is still an issue for me. I stopped at a QT station here in Marietta GA with a little less than a half full tank. I could not set the gas nozzle on auto as it kept clicking off. After several clicks of the gas nozzle cutting off and about 2 gals of gas I stopped. I drove a couple of miles down the road to the citgo station that previously did not give me a problem. First try I was able to set the nozzle at full flow and the nozzle did not cut off until the tank was full which was about 6 1/2 gal of gas later.
I love the car but this fuel thing is getting to be irritating. There has to be a solution for fixing this issue.
The car is a month old yesterday and this was my 5th attempt to re-fuel.
The only 2 successful attempts without the irritation were at a Citgo (not my favorite station)

That's gotta be irritating as hell.
It's kinda weird at the same time, because I've NEVER had this problem on my Genesis.
Is the neck of the gas tank different from V6 to V8?

Dan

Although I don't have this problem, I see that a lot of guys do not set the nozzle to automatic shut off, but they hold the nozzle AT AN ANGLE. Also, as you found, some pumps are different from other pumps. Those that pump fast will cut off too soon.

Evaporative And ORVR Emission Control System
This system consists of a fill vent valve, fuel shut-off valve, fuel cut valve (for roll over), two way valve (pressure/vacuum relief), fuel liquid/vapor separator which is installed beside the filler pipe, charcoal canister which is mounted under the rear floor LH side member and protector, tubes and miscellaneous connections.
While refueling, ambient air is drawn into the filler pipe so as not to emit fuel vapors in the air. The fuel vapor in the tank is then forced to flow into the canister via the fill vent valve. The fuel liquid/vapor separator isolates liquid fuel and passes the pure vapor to the charcoal canister. While the engine is operating, the trapped vapor in the canister is drawn into the intake manifold and then into the engine combustion chamber. According to this purge process, the charcoal canister is purged and recovers its absorbing capability. If there is a blockage then the vapors will not recover properly and will trip a valve on the gas pump handle. The dealer should repair this under warranty.
If a problem occurs the manual states to check one of the following:
Hard to refuel - Diagnosis
1. Test the canister close valve
2. Inspect the fuel filler hose/pipe
· Pinched, kinked or blocked?
· Filler hose is torn
3. Inspect the fuel tank vapor vent hose between the EVAP.
canister and air filter
4. Check the EVAP. canister

I can send you pictures, but seriously, just take it to the dealer, this is not something the average person should be messing with.

Thank you, this is the kind of information I wanted to see.
I will make an appointment for service before the need for my next fuel fill up.

I am having the problem even if I try to manual refill very slow
and tried all angles. The nozzle still trips off! The main difference with the nozzle at the Citgo station that I can see is the nozzle tube that sticks in the tank filler tube has several holes all around the nozzle tube near the end.

A real world example of this jargon is that spiders will crawl down into the vent tubes and lay nests next to the charcoal canister. This will block the vent gases. You have to remove the filter and replace it, which is very easy, but it's one of those things you don't think about.

Do the spiders bark?:D

I have the opposite problem with my 4.6. The fuel will not cut fast enough and gas ends up in the overflow in the fuel door. Tried manually holding the gas flow, slower flow, angle the handle. Any suggestions on what is going on?

That's horrible, and in many ways worse. You don't want to be getting gasoline on any of the paint or rubber parts of the car for sure. There is a lot going on during refueling, it's much more involved then just gasoline going into the tank. If it's not the gas pump (and I doubt it is), the dealer should be able to do a diagnostic check on your fuel system to determine where the problem is located.

EVAP canister / close valve. Warranty repair.

I had a scheduled appointment this morning for the Dealer service department check my fueling issue.
I had let the fuel tank get below 1/4 tank before making the appointment.
So this morning on the way to have the car serviced I figured I better stop for possibly just a gal of gas to see if the problem still exists. Wouldn't you know it fueled just fine.
I stopped at a 2nd station and it fueled there just fine as well.
Thought about canceling the appointment but decided to go through with it and explain the issue the best I could. The service department could not find a problem as well. No big surprise since it wasn't happening this morning. After finishing up with the dealer I returned to my local COSTCO since I still needed about 1/2 a tank to fill up.
This would be the ultimate test because this is one of the locations I previously experienced the problem 3 different times. Worked fine! As of this moment it would seem I no longer have a fueling issue.
Not a total loss at the dealer this morning because I had them program the drivers door button to open all 4 doors with one press.

Thanks all for your input.

did you use the same fuel gun that gave you problems at costco?

This fueling problem has more to do with the pump nozzle than with the car. I never had this problem until a couple days ago. The station I purchased gas from, in Rochester would always shut off. This is the only time this ever happened. I just did what others said, and tilted the nozzle to the side almost upside down, and filled up that way.

Never happened before and has not happened since.

That is a good question. The 3 previous visits to Costco I used different fuel pumps and this the 4th time was a different pump as well.
I was able to let the fuel gun rest freely (hands free) with the trigger locked. It didn't trip off until the tank was filled.

I agree some fuel guns are extremely more sensitive to tripping off then others. These are all the same gas stations that I have used for many years fueling other vehicles. I do not recall ever having this problem fueling another vehicle.
I wonder If a stuck vent valve somewhere in the Emission control system could possibly become unstuck and now working properly. I hope that is the case.
The dealer service guy did say he checked diagnostic codes and did not see any problem.

I have the same problem. but i finaly figured it out! now they started to put 10% ethonal (corn) in the fuel and if bubbles up and makes the sensor on the pump go off (as is if it was full). you just have to wait a few minuets for the bubbles to go down. its simular to filling up a cup with soda.
