  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 2.0 vs. 3.3T

I think a deposit is intended to cover what the dealership goes thru and the risk they undertake. It really makes no sense to put a deposit down if you can get it back at anytime--why put it down at all if it is "always" refundable no matter the circumstances? A dealer may return an otherwise nonrefundable deposit because they do not want to anger a potential customer (and risk losing the customer). But, generally absent the dealer selling the car or not receiving the car, the deposit is not refundable.
I would never put a deposit down without a written agreement on when it is refundable. And, would then only do it by credit card.
Works both ways. If you want me to do something special for you, I expect you to live up to your end also. If I can't perform you should get your money back, but if I do you should follow through also. The deposit is a sign of good faith. If you are not willing to give a deposit, chances are you are not all that serious.

Used to be, a handshake was as solid as a written contract but not everyone is that ethical. Especially in the auto business.

Sales manager at my dealer said he would not special order cars because he did that and then customers declined said car leaving dealer with a car less sellable than others, too specific or something. This may have been bs but if true it indicates that in his case orders were not binding, at least when the policy allowed them. This appears to be an area with broad variation in practice, not to mention legality.
I've ordered numerous cars. Typically, the deposit is non refundable. You can walk, but lose 500 to 1000 bucks.

When I ordered my truck, the dealer wanted $1600 up front because the color I wanted was too unique... so I opted for Grey because it spooked me about resale value. Ended up $500 deposit for that one.

Today I learned: My 2014 Santa Fe had a Lambda II GDi 3.3L engine, which was good for about 294HP, if I remember correctly.

My new 2019 G70 has a Lambda II T-GDi 3.3L Turbo engine, good for 365 ponies.

Pretty cool!
Could you tell me how you applied the Wings on the back? Or did yours come that way? I have the GENESIS across the back of my 2022 G70 3.3tt. I prefer the wings. It came in the mail- but has prongs that need to be flushed in order to apply! Thx in advance.

Now that somebody resurrected an old thread with an unrelated post (ha ha), I'm glad he did, since I'm in that situation, sort of. I bought a 2022 3.3T SP (top of the line) a few weeks ago, due to equipment I wanted not found on the top-line 2.0T (Napa, HUD, suede-like headliner, 360 camera, Brembos). But wasn't impressed by the stiff yet wallowy ride, several rattles inside the dash and doors (not easily fixed), engine felt anemic in normal driving, and the awful noise the engine made with the freaking valves (even with speaker noise off), along with some droning even in normal drive mode, and no way to turn them off. So when I heard an awful grinding engine noise entering my garage, I immediately called dealer and told them I wanted to return the car (which is still sitting at dealer service). GM called me back and said it was fine. It was my 8th new car there, so I figured he wouldn't fight me on that. And they returned my $56K+ check on the spot, so I'm rewarding them waiting weeks for a top-line 2023 2.0T SP, since 2022s don't have ventilated seats on any trim (a deal-breaker feature), but will have to pay over 2 grand more. It'll still be about 7 grand less than the top 3.3T, and not a good deal anymore, but still cheaper than a comparable German competitor I'm not interested in buying anymore. Hope it meets our expectations, which is very likely after the research I did (feels peppier in normal driving, softer suspension than the 3.3T SP, better handling). But will still have to replace the tires, due to being PS4s (why on an under-powered 4-banger? Oh well). It should arrive this week, so we'll see. We're not interested in any other vehicle, so if this G70 2.0T doesn't convince us it's worth 50 grand out the door (including new tires), will just keep the 2022 Santa Fe Calligraphy, as we don't really need two 4-wheel vehicles anymore.

As a final comment, I left them with my $1K deposit I initially put for the 3.3T SP, which was transferred to the 2.0T SP. But I asked them in writing that it was refundable, just in case. And GM signed it. So if the 2.0T doesn't work out, I'm getting it back. We tried a Kona N, but wife didn't like it. So we waited about 2 months for the G70 2.0T, which is about to finally arrive. Bottom line is I'd never give a deposit without being refundable in writing, but that's just me. Oh, and I also made them put in writing all of these deals were at MSRP, with only a $125 doc fee as an allowed extra charge other than TTL. Will never pay over MSRP, period.

I have a 2.0T automatic loaner today as my 3.3T Sport is at the dealer getting the windshield replaced. The power is adequate for normal driving but I find it totally drains the excitement out of driving the car compared to what I'm used to. In the 3.3 when you floor it you experience an addictive surge of acceleration that pulls you back in your seat. In the 2.0 there is none of that surge. I did find I enjoy the exhaust note more than the 3.3.
Why were you getting your windshield replaced?? Mine has a stress fracture going horizontally from passenger side to right side. They aren’t backing it in warranty- they say there was impact from a rock. There wasn’t. Just wanted to know if you had the same experience?
