  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Hey YEH, thanks for the info. Could I ask for your source on these matters? Right now there's a lot of conflicting and ambiguous info because of lack of official communication by Genesis USA, so we need to evaluate info based on which sources would be the most reliable.

Hey Kusa - nothing different from what most of you have seen/read - Automotive News, I find, being the best and most reliable source.

Sometimes other publications tend to have not accurate info (worst being TFL Car) when it comes to the whole Genesis separation kerfuffle.

My local Genesis/Hyundai dealer already does this. They have a separate showroom, entrance door, and advertising for Genesis. It is the same building as Hyundai, but a totally different showroom (albeit a very small showroom, but separate nonetheless). The only things they don't have are a separate lot to store Genesis vehicles, a physical marquee sign outside denoting the Genesis brand, and a separate waiting room for Genesis customers. Adding these things would be a very quick upgrade to their situation and one that would be much appreciated.

As has been noted earlier, people don't mind if their car is worked on by the same Hyundai mechanics, but they just don't want to wait in the same waiting room and be treated the same as Hyundai customers. All they need is a separate, smaller waiting room for Genesis customers and maybe some training on luxury customer relations and most people would be very happy indeed.

Maybe things have changed (again), but based on the impression I got, in order to get approval for a Genesis franchise, a dealership will have to build-out an entirely separate Genesis store w/ the cost being as high as $10 million (depending on location).

One reason for such a high-barrier of entry was to ensure that the # of Genesis dealerships would be more in line to what the other import lux brands have, and to cut out the dealer groups which didn't have the financial wherewithal.

Still, there have been cases where Genesis has been surprised; where a dealer group owning a Hyundai dealership which didn't sell many G80's (and not exactly located in a lucrative luxury market) willing to pony up the $$ for a Genesis franchise.

Have argued that for smaller markets, that a combined Hyundai/Genesis dealership would be suitable (as long as there is a separate building to house the showroom and customer lounge; don't think having service bays servicing both brands is a big deal as MB dealerships also service SMART as well as MB's commercial vans), but unless things have changed, that's not what Genesis is allowing, so the dealerships which already have a separate Genesis showroom will either have to build out an entirely separate Genesis dealership before the deadline or convert the current dealership entirely over to Genesis (w/ the requisite make-over).

I don't get how they will pay for that expense, based on past sales history. I really think they need to ok something smaller at first.

^ I agree for smaller markets; but the larger markets (where the vast majority of lux sales are made) should be fine.

But as I had stated, this seems to be Genesis' way of making sure there aren't too many Genesis dealerships - as they had to offer the opportunity to everyone who owned a Hyundai franchise.

In terms of past sales - sales of the G80/G90 have been better than all the competition aside from BMW (5/7 Series) and MB (E/S Class).

Sales will grow as they fill out their lineup, and as everything transitions over to the Essentia design language.

Not sure what deadline you are referring to. Could you be a little more specific. Automotive News says “The opportunity to sell the brand was offered to all Hyundai dealers in the U.S. this spring as long as they agreed to open stand-alone Genesis facilities by January 2021.” So they only have to agree now to be able to sell now. It’s not like they have to have everything done right now to sell 2019s.

So where is the advertising? Here is what the article says: “He said the G70's ad campaign, which will feature TV and digital elements, launches in September, in time for the NFL season. Genesis, the luxury automotive partner for the league, will continue to leverage that big-ticket platform. “

My lease isn't up until late September but I'm going over my miles now. Doesn't make sense for me to do that without knowing if the car will even ship by then and I'm itching to get a new car. As of today Genesis lost me. Question is what to get instead. Was thinking 2019 Volvo S60 but they won't ship until Q4 so now I know I don't want to wait for the G70 anymore but I don't know what to get instead. I think the Stinger is overpriced considering it's a Kia.
I gave up on waiting for the G70 and bought a Volvo XC40. Best of luck to you all!

I am almost already given up too, I started getting quotes on Stinger Premium and I'll wait a little while longer for the new V60.

Nice! How are you liking the Volvo? My wife is interested in the XC40, but it will be a year or two before we would potentially get one.

As for me, I'm not making any decisions until I actually test drive the G70.

Just picked it up on Friday. So far so good. Glad to be done with the months and months of research and indecision...

Are the back seats relatively roomy? As in, think they'd be enough room for a couple small kiddos?

Yes, I was referring to the Jan. 2021 deadline - where that dealership will have to build out a separate Genesis dealership or convert their current joint dealership entirely to Genesis.

But in the meanwhile, will be able to sell the '19MY at their current facilities.

Kind of an update. One of my good resources claimed end of Aug...potentially first part of Sep. I have stated this already.

But...that is one person. He is heavy into following this as we all are.

But...I was bored today and called every dealer on the East coast. Yeah...I am talking major free time folks. Half had no idea what is going on...other half said Oct/Nov. But none of them were as hard core as my main guy.

So...between my "main guy" and the head of Genesis stating end of Aug/beg of Sep...I am hoping for that.

All I know is...I am leaving for Toronto tomorrow...and will be driving this bitch on Fri...for 24 hours. Yeah man. Bob's yer uncle.

Probably not...folks on here are familiar with my antics and who I have been reaching out to. So head of Genesis usually means the top sales guys.
