  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

How did G70's or any other Hyundai vehicles get in this port? USA Import Data for Hyundai (Hyundai Importer Data in USA :Allinfo) does not even identify Benicia as a port of entry. Unless they were shipped intermodel by rail transport to Benicia from Port Hueneme. CA?

That same data shows the first date of 06/14 for shipments to the US with G70's in the inventory.

As to identifying G70's in a satellite photo, you have superhuman vision. I have Google Earth Pro and at the closet magnification, I can not definitively identify specific cars especially with all of the protective white wraps the vehicles are covered in. If you can attach shots that show discernibly specific vehicles I would love to see them.
Thank you for the compliment on my super human vision! :p I was just talking about the proportions of the vehicles and window shapes; no I did not positively identify any G70's... Considering the image date, likely no G70's at that time.

Regarding the port location, you may be right that they could have been shipped to Benecia from another port. Someone else here stated they heard G70's were in Benecia. None of it is fact, but likely rumors or other hearsay, so take it for what it's worth. BTW Benecia is a deep water port, so the G70's could have also taken a cruise rather than rail to this spot for port accessory installations. Maybe Port Hueneme was busy or otherwise unable to service the G70's. Lots of guesses and conjecture we can come up with while we wait for more info.

If you are referring to this Genesis website (Official Media Site - Genesis Newsroom) it is down.
I put the www in the address...my mistake. If you want to check the safety of a site, you could always test the URL on VirusTotal.com (They're owned by Google/Alphabet.)

The media site I thought we were talking about was https://media.genesis.com/

I did some DNS lookups against the genesisnewsusa.com site, and it's privately registered at GoDaddy. The genesis.com TLD is clearly registered to HMG, though. To be fair, web.archive.org has data for genesisnewsusa.com back to January 2016 which looks like a Genesis news site, so it's definitely trying to be what it claims. If genesisnewsusa.com is a legitimate source, I wonder if it wasn't one of their dealers taking initiative instead of having corporate blessing..?

Could also be less complex and more of the same: HMG struggling with messaging.

(Either way, not trying to send anyone to a bad site.)

mang.

We need to locate someone that works in one of the ports that is reportedly holding G70s.

Benicia is not a port, just a storage lot for cars shipped the Bay Area waiting for deliver to dealerships. I found this out when I was waiting for my factory-ordered Explorer, which was shipped on a train and stored in Benicia.
I would think that the cars are shipped into the Port of Oakland, which is one of the ports listed by Larrymg1 above.

Agreed! Port of Oakland is NOT one of the Hyundai ports. The nearest port of entry is Port Hueneme CA which is near Oxnard, north of LA.

Brunswick, GA was the East Coast port I believe.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Here is where we need to find someone. US ports used by Hyundai ( SAN DIEGO, CA, PORT HUENEME, CA, PORTLAND, OR, BRUNSWICK, GA, PHILADELPHIA, PA).

Well shoot I'm only an hour from Philly... might be even closer to the car ports depending on where in Philly they are... if you guys wanna donate some moola to me for gas money and a cheese steak I'll make a trip up there and see what I can see!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Joking but yeah there's five different ports; someone has to know someone who has a cousin twice removed that works in one of those facilities LOL

@Pete_CA , You stated yesterday... "I also heard that the G70 cars are sitting behind locked gates at the local import docks in Benicia, CA". Where did you hear this?

From what I see, Benicia does indeed have a deep water port although it apparently is not a port used by HMC (at least not direct from HMC).
Port of BENICIA (US BNC) details - Departures, Expected Arrivals and Port Calls | AIS Marine Traffic

There appears to be a company called AMPORTS in Benicia that is an auto storage facility used for pre-delivery with connections to both rail and sea port.

This seems to be the location you're talking about for the storage of the cars; whether they got there by rail or vessel is a moot point.

AMPORTS Benicia is shown on the map below. LOTS of cars stored tightly in the lots surrounding this building.

My dealer said there are cars sitting in Baltimore. Doesn't really matter where they are, they are NOT at the dealer. Both Hyundai and Kia bring cars into the Packer Ave terminal in Philly though.

I honestly don’t think the dealers are going to see any cars until their paperwork is signed and there are enough signed contracts to create a campaign. Not any faster and not easy to predict since it is partly beyond Genesis’s Control. It’s not like Genesis is arbitrarily holding them back.

Allow me to make an observation. I think the group may have strayed a bit far afield.
Many, myself included, have gotten caught up in this fervor over where the G70's are or are not. May I clarify. We know from the Port data that a number of G70's have arrived over the last several months at five US ports. Whether those vehicles have been partially or wholely redistributed to other ports or staging areas is, IMO, somewhat irrelevant. Vehicles are here. Some have expressed concern over the fact that the cars are sitting in ports/staging areas for an extended period of time. My limited information says that this is not overly uncommon for auto manufacturers and presents no undue harm to the vehicles. Each will have to decide if this is an issue. My overall evaluation is that for whatever myriad number of reasons HMG and Genesis USA have encountered a series of roadblocks, whether of their own making or events/regulations beyond their control and are attempting to work through these issues. Maybe effectively or stumbling and bumbling. It is disheartening, frustrating, infuriating, etc. that we are locked in this time warp and lack any ability to resolve these issues and get your hands on that G70 you have so patiently or impatiently been waiting for. It is apparent, to me, that cars are not going to be at a dealership near, or not so near, you only when these issues are resolved and not before. History will identify whether this whole process is a giant cluster f**k or proves successful. I reserve my opinion at this time. Time just inexorably marches on. My two cents.

I see that you have the StreetGuardian SG9663DC - Dual Channel Dash Cam. I'm interested in getting a dash cam for whatever car I end up buying, I was wondering if you could tell me what your thoughts are on that particular model and why you went with it versus the plethora of other choices on the market.

Thanks!

... etc...

To be honest I don't exactly remember, I have talked with a couple of dealers and with Genesis customer support, and done a lot of web searching. Since my Explorer was shipped in by train, it could be possible that Hyundai has done the same, since there aren't any Northern CA ports that they ship to, and we have to get the cars somehow. Sorry, can't help more.
