  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Thanks for this. FWIW my dealer in NOVA who claims to be the first authorized and approved dealer in the country has zero updates as of today at 3pm est. Smfh.
I called dealers up and down the east coast yesterday. Each time asking for the GM for the Genesis brand. Nobody had anything. WTF man. I was hoping to fine that one individual who was in the know. Nope.

Even my 2 GM's that are around Central VA...who were always on top...have nothing. I get the sense they have given up and they both sound very pissed off in their voices. I can only imagine how many people this has ticked off. Forget about us. Picture the dealer owners...the GM's...the fake promises...the lack of respect with the secrecy. Wow.

Well...I have officially emailed and left VM's for 5 of the top Genesis peeps regarding the G70. I basically told them that if they want to keep me as a potential buyer...they need to give me something. Anything. I might be one person...but my message was pretty clear that I represent a large group of aggravated people waiting on this car.

If I do not get a reply...or a reply without some valuable info...I am done. I figure Labor Day weekend is coming...end of summer...and there are deals to be had. I will be trolling Audi dealer lots...and hope for the best.

I have gotten to the point that I am ill and obsessed with this f'ing car. It needs to stop. All I do is search every day to find out anything new. I just want a new ride.

So...fingers crossed. Let's see how much these top executives value their customers (new and existing). Should be interesting.

B.
Ok...Kevin Smith just read my email. LOL. Let's see if he honkers down and sends a reply. It may tick him off a bit as I was pretty blunt. But I clearly stated that I am willing to stay on board depending on his reply...LOL. Tick tock mofo.

For what it's worth, the last Kia dealership I went to has been calling me. Yesterday they told me they are offering $7k off MSRP. Not sure if others have already been doing this.

Yeah, honestly the Stinger is super tempting. Most top trims RWD can be found for 44k here since they aren't really selling. And with Kia incentives and negotiating you could easily get it for 40k for the top trim. I doubt the G70 will have incentives for a while. If the Stinger looked like a luxury car and was quieter, I probably would've gone for that already.

How do you know he read it? Read receipt?

As someone looking to buy a car in March, I can't help but feel like we still may be waiting for a release date then, lol. This appears to be a much bigger issue than just selling the G70 based on the news we've been hearing.

Everyone I've told about the G70 gives me a puzzled look when I say I'm interested. Still getting, "What's a Genesis?" and "You're going to pay HOW much for a Hyundai?" Either they don't get it or I'm the crazy one; lol.

I just talked to the guy at my local San Jose dealership. He claims he's the Genesis rep at his dealership and he's driven the car during a recent visit to Fountain Valley, CA (US Headquarters). His estimate is that we won't see the G70 on lots in CA until Q1 next year due to the fact that CA doesn't yet recognize Genesis as a separate brand to Hyundai for 2019; details are "being worked out". He said they had 35 cars allocated and stored locally, but they all were recently sent to the 38 states that are ready to sell Genesis in preparation for the launch soon. He says that CA is the only state not ready at this point; the other 11 states are not even registered for Genesis sales (hard to believe). I told him about the NFL advertising campaign and that if CA couldn't participate in the launch, they'd lose a huge amount of sales to competition. He agreed and was not happy about that. The only good thing was that he said they do NOT mark up any cars beyond MSRP at their dealership. So when they're ready to sell, it would start at MSRP or less.

I'm sure the Hyundai/Genesis managers would like to get the product to market too. No matter how many emails and phone calls potential buyers make, they cannot solve the legal problems with just a wish or a command to get it done. Given the amount of work and legal agreements to be resolved they may not be able to put a date out there. If say, a given state takes 90 days to process a permit, there is little that can be done to change it.

There is also the negotiation and agreements with hundreds of dealers. Just think about the time needed to get everything approved. If 350 dealers take even 5 hours each, that is 1750 man hours for a legal team.

We can beg, we can ask nice, we can throw hissy fits, but it is going to take a lot of time. They are smart not to give a date that cannot be met because that is even a greater setback of image.

We have a simple choice. If we want the G70, you wait. If you need a car right now, you buy something else. We may not like it, but that is the real truth.

I have zero knowledge about these issues, but here’s a question: does anyone know of a brand that has launched in less than 50 (or lower 48) states with a new car? I bought a first generation Saturn back in 1994, but I don’t have any idea about how it was launched at the time.

I’m ready for a Nevada or Arizona road trip; in a way it’s kind of like taking delivery of a BMW in Germany, except I would have a great 5 or 6 hour drive back...in a G70, it may only take 3-4 hours! 😀

When you say they don't mark up beyond MSRP, did you mean that specific dealership? I doubt it could apply to all of Genesis dealerships, especially when I see my local ones mark up even the G80 Sport.

And I don't want Genesis to release now because I'm sure they're working as hard as possible. I just wish they'd sympathize and at least give us pricing details to prepare for what to expect. Even disregarding the launch situation, pricing numbers are super late in the process compared to other new releases.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I sold my BMW 135i convertible in preparation for the G70. I thought I'd be driving it by now. I live in Northern Virginia and I know that there are at least 2 (maybe 3) authorized Genesis dealerships. I have checked in with them periodically and they never have a clue when they will see the G70. My salesman texted me a few weeks ago just updating me that he still hasn't heard anything from Genesis. I really want this car because I have researched all of the German cars, and Cadillac, LIncoln, all of them...and this one stands out to me due to the luxury interior and performance and value (NOT going to pay upwards of 70k for a Benz that has less tech). I wish I had more news, but to me it seems they are battling a bunch of BS red tape. I feel bad for u guys out in Cali...I hope they get their paperwork in order soon.

IF the G70 doesn't show up this year, I may have to get the G80 Sport...but I am going to try my best to wait this out.

Shout out to Beefer, you have provided some great information and I loved your review. (y)(y)

Thanks, Beefer. Although we've disagreed from time to time, I do value the effort you've put into getting some solid information from Genesis.

Like I said, I'm waiting until March so this doesn't really affect me, but they seem to have major dealer issues right now that are slowly tarnishing this "brand" they are trying to build. They have clearly said multiple times that the car was coming Summer 2018, and we are now hearing unconfirmed reports of Q1 2019. Truthfully, as a potential buyer, I have absolutely no interest in buying a car that has been sitting on a lot for 6+ months unless it's heavily discounted.

The best thing they can do as a brand is give some sort of update, not sit there in absolute silence saying "coming soon". They said Summer 2018, so if they can't hit it, they need to explain why. They have a few weeks...

Yeah. Still no reply.

They probably know lots of things...they are just not allowed to share it with the public. I am just as frustrated as everyone else, and right now, the inconsistent responses and withholding of information in general points to larger corporate issues.

The build date on the one in Chicago was May 30th so hopefully no issues there.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant just that one dealership. As you state, many dealers gouge the public with new releases in short supply by marking cars up by thousands of dollars. Was just pointing out that the San Jose dealership does not engage in such practices. Each dealership is owned and managed independently, so they can pretty much do what they want with pricing.

I think the real question is... how hard is it for a US citizen to buy a car in Canada and then bring it back across the border?

Serious question, cause maybe that’s what we should be looking into lol.

You’re not the first person to ask this question. And has been answered.
