  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Did you guys see the recent post by PD705 (who's from Hyundai/Genesis Corporate -- Canada) in the 6MT thread...? Delicious tease, though he may be hinting at Canadian deliveries only.

By the way - you've got one of 15 manual customer cars in North America, at least for the next week or two ;)

The article assumes you are bringing a car you presently own and have registered. It may be more difficult without Canada registration first as it would have to be transported.

Good point. Plus you'd need to pay the Canadian sales tax which is high: in Ontario it's 13%.

My guess is Canadian only.

My current hybrid is sitting at 165k miles. I guess if the battery holds out I'm OK to wait...until it doesn't, then I'm not. A typical lifespan for this model/year/battery is ~130k miles; cost to replace/repair is more than the car is worth. I'm happy, if a bit nervous.

*If* Genesis delivers but CA won't be ready until March, it's an easy trip for me to Tahoe->NV. Really liked my visit to San Jose Capitol Kia...gentleman I spoke with seemed like 'good people' and someone I'd be happy to do business with. Unfortunately, I'm disinclined to wait.

*If* HMC continues to disappoint, I'm calling it early to avoid a costly mistake. No Stinger or G70 for me. Better to stick with a manufacturer who has clearly established business services...even in a devil-you-know kind of way. Bummer. Not why I came here.

I figure I have until the end of November at the absolute worst, though I suspect I won't sit that long.

mang.

PS- Hey! How about that 9/6 NFL season start!? Anyone? Kia? =)

I emailed the closest Genesis dealer to me today and they said they just sent in their dealer agreement and will be the first NY Genesis dealer. They confirmed that G70s are at the port and they are hoping they'll be ready to go in a month or so at least for them. No guarantees yet on exact dates.

Sorry, Drezz, I wish that comment held some deeper meaning but I was just referencing Canada only. My reference to "next week or two" was simply in relation to the fact that Canada has some additional manual units at sea. And as no cars have yet been sold in the U.S., well...

Again, apologies if my remark led you to believe something else :)

Thank you! Perhaps your helpful Genesis dealer can give you some idea of inventory allocation. As I’ve noted before, with 2 engines, 4 or 6 trims each plus AWD, except for manual, that’s 19, before exterior and interior colors are even considered.

Just curious...any idea how many G70 per month are being delivered to new owners in Canada and whether Genesis has been able to produce to meet demand?

Slowly climbing. We have only 22 retailers nationwide (versus ~220 Hyundai stores) and only 5 currently have a physical presence, with the rest virtual selling at-home/online. Sales will soon exceed 150 per month. Supply is far from an issue because the factory is scaled to supply the U.S. market - with them idle these past 5 months we've been selling, it hasn't been hard to secure additional stock. The next little while as they ramp up may be a challenge for us, though. If all goes to plan we'll have 31 fully operational distributors, each with a stand-alone Genesis showroom/service facility, by 2021.

To get a sense of the figures above in a "USA context", a decent approximation is to multiply by a factor of 10 to account for the difference in population base. Canada's market also skews a little smaller in terms of vehicle size/price.

From their reply, it sounds like they may not even know allocation just yet. They asked what trim I was interested in because they said they expected to have priority in allocation choice.

Hello boys and girls. I guess I can probably qualify as a professional waiter. I waited for the intro of the Porsche Boxster S in 2000. I waited for the intro of the VW Toureg whenever that was. I waited for over a year for the intro of the AMG version of the MB CLA. I struggled with that car for about a year before admitting that it was a piece of - - - -, and finally biting the depreciation bullet. My last wait holds the record - two years waiting for the Tesla Model 3 for my wife. (FWIW, we love it; it's a great car, although I'm not sure how the range would be for our friends in the North who live in the snow 11 months a year.

During all those waits, I learned a ton on the appropriate forums, and I hope to learn from our Canadian friends who are driving the G70 now.

Ha...well this might set the record. Heard they may release it by 2021. Dealers have to now be off the grid. All solar and rain water. Sales people are mandated to be robots.

Well...I have officially emailed and left VM's for 5 of the top Genesis peeps regarding the G70. I basically told them that if they want to keep me as a potential buyer...they need to give me something. Anything. I might be one person...but my message was pretty clear that I represent a large group of aggravated people waiting on this car.

If I do not get a reply...or a reply without some valuable info...I am done. I figure Labor Day weekend is coming...end of summer...and there are deals to be had. I will be trolling Audi dealer lots...and hope for the best.

I have gotten to the point that I am ill and obsessed with this f'ing car. It needs to stop. All I do is search every day to find out anything new. I just want a new ride.

So...fingers crossed. Let's see how much these top executives value their customers (new and existing). Should be interesting.

B.
Amen to that!

I gave up my year+ Tesla reservation for several reasons, even though I'm a fan...going to put money into a roof/power wall instead.

Yeah I gave up mine as well. By the time I would have one built the $7500 credit (a big reason to buy) would be expired or reduced and I also would still need to have 220V installed in the garage. I still love the appeal of electric, but I really hope they make a breakthrough in battery technology to make the energy density better. Once that comes through, we will ONLY be using electric cars and I can make the swap.

I just had a discussion yesterday with a buddy.

Two very important things folks don't even think about (let alone know) regarding electric...

1. The process and factories that build the batteries are worse for the environment than fuel cars.
2. Batteries do go bad. They last a long time...but if you keep your cars this is critical. The cost to replace the batteries down the road is mind blowing. Last I checked...the cost to replace the batteries in a Prius was over $10k !!! I think someone told me that for a Tesla it would be over $30k.
