I'm sure Pro G80 Own will have more info but I got curious when he posted that so I know for the future and did some searching. In the case of leasing there may not be a limit but have found a number of articles referencing what he said. The local sales tax can only be applied to a maximum of $5,000. Anything over that is only subject to the state 6% sales tax. It also looks like there is a maximum to the amount of tax that can be charged in total.

maximum tax rate of 1.5%. It should be noted that the local tax is only applied to the first 5,000 dollars of the cost of the vehicle. The maximum tax that can be owed is
1,025 dollars.
