If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GENESIS ANNOUNCES ALL-NEW 2021 GENESIS G80 PRICING; STARTS AT COMPETITIVE $47,700

Yes, but maybe you just project that sexy Hollywood image so they treat you better when they see you at the counter.

:LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO::LOL:

yeah, I don’t think so... I’m a 6’1” 300lbs disabled gimp, ain’t nothing sexy or Hollywood about me.

Wow, this is big news. Ev and level 3! I wonder if they'll be the first to offer true level 3? Amazing progress from this brand!

They're working w/ Samsung/Harmon on that level 3 system (usually Korean conglomerates don't work together since they compete against each other in so many arenas).

Read somewhere that the next gen G90 will be the 1st Genesis model to incorporate LiDAR, so not clear if it's a different and an even more advanced system.

The new G80 platform is not optimized for pure-EV purpose, there is little space under the floor area to place batteries. Let's see how they make room for the battery pack if they decided to build a pure EV G80.

Still, whlle not as optimal as HMG's dedicated BEV platform, they did develop the new RWD platform to better incorporate batteries like the new N3 platform underpinning the Sonata and new Sorento.

Around 311 miles of range on a sedan the size of the G80 and not on a dedicated BEV platform is pretty impressive.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a completely redisgned vehicle with a brand new engine that is much more advanced than the outgoing 3.8 which is over 8 years old same goes for the 3.5TT. The chassis, building materials, technologies and features aren’t just more advanced than the outgoing model, they are class competitive with the best in the segment.

The new G80 may not be for you but it’s a far more advanced vehicle than it’s predecessor and an incredible value when compared with the equivalent.

This.

The G80 is the 1st Genesis model that is on par w/ the best of the Germans, aside from not having a performance line.

Even if the G80 were priced the same as the Germans, would get the G80 since it looks a good bit better inside and out (hurts me to say that as a long-time BMW guy); have you seen the F/L E Class? (yuck)

Spending $60 plus on a car and still have to buy and get service at a Hyundai dealership.. I’m not sure about that. I think genesis should really focus on stand alone dealerships if they want prestige luxury car buyers to cross shop with genesis vehicles. Buying a luxury car should be a different experience than buying a Hyundai Accent.

While that would be the ideal, Genesis really doesn't have much say in it.

It's all up to the independent dealerships/dealer groups and am afraid that the pandemic will put a halt, or at least a delay in those Genesis franchisees that were planning on building out a separate Genesis store.

These past few months have been tough for auto dealerships and the banks aren't exactly lining up to lend tens of millions construct and open a new auto dealership.

But as already stated, doesn't matter if it's the same or a separate location/store if the management sucks.

The experience at a BMW, Infiniti, Toyota or Hyundai/Genesis store will be similarly good or bad depending on whether the dealer-group that owns those franchisees are good/bad.

Yup, it more than likely will be the top tier model “Ultimate” (price wise for sure) with a rumoured 500km (300+ mile) range, 500hp/500tq and Autonomous Level 3 Driving tech.
HMC invested heavily in Rimac a year ago, so expect the benefits of that to keep trickling down to other HMC products.

Conversion of the expected KDM pricing (basically a guesstimate) = to around $80k US.

I realize it is completely redesigned vehicle, but at the end of the day the features are no different than what I currently have, newer tech yes, but not different tech, there is nothing additional the car gives IMO to justify a $10k+ price increase.

I’d rather buy a CT-5V or even a CT-6 Premium with equal safety features and comfort options for ~$8k less, maybe not a direct competitor to the g80 but both still solid options with equal features at a lower price point.

i hope Genesis succeeds. But from my POV they have priced themselves outside of my comfort zone.

As stated, in terms of tech/amenities (not to mention quality of the interior), the new G80 is light years ahead.

The similarly priced GS seems like horse-drawn carriage in comparison and the neither the CT5 or CT6 offer the same level of tech (the CT5 is also nowhere as luxurious as the G80).

Sure, everyone has their price-point, but the base trim of the new G80 has pretty much the same level of tech as the old one, loaded (and has things like a 14.25" screen which even a loaded 1G G80 did not have).

There's no rule that states one needs to get the top level trim, esp. if there is tech/amenities that one won't need/miss.

As previously stated, 40% of the price of a new vehicle these days is tied to tech/electronics, and that % is likely higher for loaded top-of-the-line lux models.

Heck, these days a Sonata has a good # of tech features that are not available on the 1G G80.

I'm not really sure what you guys are actually arguing about but here is some data in case it helps. Obviously the G70 seems to be a poor seller even though it is arguably one of, if not the, best in the class. There are various reasons for that which have been covered here many times. The poor dealer rollout hurt sales in 2018 and the first part of 2019. Other reasons seem to be the dealership experience, quality perception, lack of brand history, lack of prestige, lack of dealers in areas, etc.

While there have been numerous factors, the #1 reason why G70 sales have been a disappointment (there's no way around it), it's cramped interior/trunk space.

When 1st heard/saw the dimensions for the interior/space trunk, my 1st thought was - why in the heck are they making the same stupid mistake that Cadillac did w/ the ATS?

There's no reason why the Stinger (a niche body-style) should continue to outsell the G70 (the 3 Series and A4 outsell their fastback counterparts).

There's no reason why the aged IS (apparently due for a 2nd refresh) still often outsells the G70.

There's no reason why the (new) G80 should outsell the its smaller/cheaper sibling, but expect that it will.

It is the car's quality determines its market competitiveness, not who buys it.

It is OK for a luxury brand to appear in the rental company fleet. For example Hertz/Avis have lots of BMWs and Mercedes in their fleet; and the Mercedes E class is even commonly used as taxi in many European countries. These never affect BMW/Mercedes reputation.

Acura seldom (or never) sell cars to rental fleet, but that does not help its brand image to reach the tier-1 luxury brand like M/B/A.

Not just quality, but packaging.

Sales of the ATS never came close to that of the larger/more spacious 2G CTS that it replaced, despite the ATS being more lauded by the auto rags for its handling prowess.

Sales of the Camaro tanked once it moved over to the Alpha platform, essentially making its rear seats only usable for storage.

Despite its age, and despite the Camaro being able to vastly outhandle the Challenger on a track, the Challenger not only pulled ahead in sales, but kept increasing its sales lead over the Camaro.

Speaking of lux brands/models in rental fleets - there's a rental company that only uses Audis - Silvercar (which Audi ended up buying).

Not a bad way to increase sales volume.

Genesis and Harmon working together again? That has to be a joke, right?

Talking about interior dimension, all measurements for G70 are better than the 3 series except rear headroom (0.7 inch less) and rear leg room (0.4 inch less). For rear headroom I do not think 36.9 inch for G70 will be a problem - the Dodge Charger has even worse rear headroom (36.6 in) but it is the best seller in its class. Next, although 34.8 rear legroom its less than the 3 series, it is still the same as the 2020 Toyota Corolla, I do not think most compact sport sedan buyer will complain this.

2020 G70 vs. 2020 BMW 3-Series

Front Head Room (inches)
39.7 vs. 38.7
Front Leg Room (inches)
42.6 vs. 42
Front Shoulder Room (inches)
56.3 vs. 56
Second Row Head Room (inches)
36.9 vs. 37.6
Second Row Leg Room (inches)
34.8 vs. 35.2
Second Row Shoulder Room (inches)
54.6 vs. 54.6

Opinions on the Audi A8? I was going to get the G80, but with it having no back seat console command center I am extremely hesitant now. The G90 tech and interior feels outdated to me and I can get 35% off the A8 right now which brings in line with the G80 MSRP.

Are you referring to the 2020 G80 or the new 2021 G80?

I hate to state a very subjective claim so boldly (like it's a fact, when it's not). But I find Audi sedans almost invisible because they are so boring looking. They are the senior accountant's car. Owned by a man who has clearly done well in his career -- but he's still an accountant. Yawn.

I bash accountants wrongly, I know. But it's still a valid, common, emotion. We all want excitement, passion. The Audi's, to me, dont deliver any of that.

I'm about to be 28 but the low key understated look appeals to me haha. When I sat in the A8 at the dealership it just felt special, I dont know how to describe it. I'll just have to wait to sit in the G80 in the meantime i supposed.

Nice! If the car makes you feel that way.. go and buy it! And enjoy it. I have my tastes (and some are odd), you have yours. All are valid.

Lord knows, many will look at my G90 as an "elder statesman" vehicle. Fook, Im only 51 and very vibrant! But I love it. No further explanation required!

After a new car model in market for sale for ~1 yr, the sales data/trend can pretty much predict how the whole sales volume curve for that generation of model will be - will not be exact accurate, but a holistic trend. For example you can take the 1st gen Hyundai Genesis sedan as example.

For the whole life of the current gen G70, its peak US annual sales will be at most around 19,000 units - that is not counting negative factors such as covid19 or economy recession. For the new G80, we will be able to predict by the end of next year.

:ROFLMAO:

They're heavily discounting German sedans right now so you have to factor that in.

Right now in southern California, some desperate dealers are willing to sell brand new 2019 A6 2.0T AWD (MSRP ~$57k) at ~$35k, crazy discount. I am not sure how I will have motivation to buy a 2021 G80 later this summer.
