While there have been numerous factors, the #1 reason why G70 sales have been a disappointment (there's no way around it), it's
cramped interior/trunk space.
When 1st heard/saw the dimensions for the interior/space trunk, my 1st thought was -
why in the heck are they making the same stupid mistake that Cadillac did w/ the ATS?
There's no reason why the
Stinger (a niche body-style) should continue to outsell the G70 (the 3 Series and A4 outsell their fastback counterparts).
There's no reason why the aged IS (apparently due for a 2nd refresh) still often outsells the G70.
There's no reason why the (new) G80 should outsell the its smaller/cheaper sibling, but expect that it will.
Not just
quality, but
packaging.
Sales of the ATS never came close to that of the larger/more spacious 2G CTS that it replaced, despite the ATS being more lauded by the auto rags for its handling prowess.
Sales of the Camaro tanked once it moved over to the
Alpha platform, essentially making its rear seats only usable for storage.
Despite its age, and despite the Camaro being able to vastly outhandle the Challenger on a track, the Challenger not only pulled ahead in sales, but kept increasing its sales lead over the Camaro.
Speaking of lux brands/models in rental fleets - there's a rental company that only uses Audis -
Silvercar (which Audi ended up buying).
Not a bad way to increase sales volume.
