  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Connected Services

Is it just me or does the interface between car and phone app feel somewhat clunky? For instance, I just checked it 5 minutes ago and it told me my doors were unlocked. Sent the lock request before I realized that I was looking at a status update from 6:43am (it is now 1:30pm)!

The request take a while to actually execute as well. I asked to start the car the other day and it didn't start until I walked down 3 flights of stairs and then across the parking lot (no overhead/structure) to the car. I could have opened the door and turned it on myself before it got up and running!

Anyone else have this kind of experience?
I know when I was looking at the G70 at the local car show, they told me that the Cell Data circuitry in the car was 3G.
I confirmed this with the other sales staff, so I assume it's true.
As other's commented, this and server load are factors, but I bet the 3G in the car is the main bottleneck.
Wonder what Genesis will do if the Carriers stop supporting 3G? The people at the autoshow made it seem that there was no plan for that.
Edit: ok. reading through this thread and someone commented that they were told 4G. That makes sense to me. All I can say is that the people I spoke to seemed sure that it was 3G.

It uses 4G and not 3G, Genesis switched in 2017 from all accounts.

Hope no one minds me hi-jacking this thread, but it is related to the app.
I read somewhere that the App in the US can set alerts for speed limits?
Is that true?

Yes, speed, area and time alerts.

That reinforces the image of the stereotypical car salesman. There are some good ones, but too many are like that.

I don't understand why Genesis doesn't auto lock the doors when starting. I'm often caught hitting start via the app and then being told the doors have to be locked first... so if that's the case, why not just send the lock command and start the car? Makes a slow process crazy slow.

I think the US and Canada have different setups as well. I am unable to voice start my G70 through Alexa or Google but I can start my wife's Chevy Cruise... Yikes!

Cool! These alerts are really handy to know how fast, where and when your car was driven by whoever you loaned it to... the concierge service valet or your kid ;-)
We don't have that capability in the Canadian App (don't ask me why).
I called Genesis Canada and they told me "we are making upgrades all the time". when I told them they don't have to make upgrades, just get the app from the US, they told me to call Hyundai Canada.
When I go to the US next week I will try to download the US app and see if I can get it to work. Most likely won't work as my VIN is registered in Canada.
Will keep you posted.

I've tried ... I have a US Apple account and I downloaded the US app. Won't accept the Canadian registered VIN ... :(

Unfortunately the app here is so limited I really don't use it much ...

Unless I'm reading too deep into your words, the app isn't as detailed as you think with the alerts. It'll just alert you saying the threshold you set (for speed, distance, etc) was breached and give you a time/general location. For instance, if you set it at 60mph and they do 90mph, all you get is "they went over 60mph near ___ place @ ___ time"

Not sure if this is related to a new update on the Canadian app, but yesterday when my car was in for service I received a message from the app saying "warning: the hood of your Genesis G70 is open" and then later I received about 5 messages of "warning: the doors of your Genesis G70 are still unlocked, please perform close remote command using this link"

Never seen those before. Not sure what would trigger it as my car normally sits in my garage unlocked and I have never received a message like that so not sure what triggers it or if it is something that was just updated.

My guess is it’s probably something related to tests they were doing after installing the new app.

So oddly enough getting home today (first time driving since service as they kept it overnight) and parking in the garage, I came inside and a little while later I had the same message. It must be an update where after the car is turned off, if the doors aren't locked within a certain length of time the app gives that message.

Good if you just walked into a restaurant but annoying if you are just parking in your garage. I will have to keep an eye on it.

So, both times this occurred is after the car is in for service?
I wonder if its an update they do at the dealer, as I never keep my car locked and have not seen this message.

Yesterday afternoon was the first time I ever had the message and it was while the car was at the dealership for service. This morning it happened again (still at the dealer), and then shortly after I got home. But in between I did drive to Home Depot and spent some time there and never received the message (car was locked though) which is why I think it may be everytime the car is turned off and the doors aren't locked within a certain amount of time.

Only "programming" the dealer did was update my nav from 12.5 to 13.0

I looked at my bill and there is nothing else on there aside from service, new windsheild, and adjusting a trim piece.

I also don't recall if the app recently updated itself...

The door, hood and trunk open warning has been there a while. At least 2-3 weeks now. It was from the previous 1.5.1 update I believe. The current iOS version is 1.5.2 and I'm surprised they didn't update to 1.6 like the Kia UVO app which updates the same day or within 24 hours cause the Kia app now is 5x faster. It automatically logs in to Remote Services so you can hit Start and it will default to previous Start Engine settings. Only a 1 press process after logging in plus the PIN.

App won't load since car was in for service. Anyone run into this issue?

I click it on my phone it's starts loading then just disappears with no trace of the app loading.?

I don't think is related. Uninstall and reinstall the app and test again.
[/QUOTE figured it out.. Kind of stupid on my end but it will not load with location services off. There is a pop up notifying you of this but its literally flashes for 1/8th of a second so you can't even read what it says.
Made a recording and slowed it down to see what the pop up actually was warning of...

If you don't keep your location services 24/7 on your phone this is very easy to run into this unnecessary issue which could of been avoided by just having the pop up warning actually readable
