  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Coupe Buying/Leasing Tips (Read before you sit with your dealer!)

please explain. yes there are holdbacks but what in the world you think they are 2 and 3000 dollars, lol.

You go first. Explain where you got me saying anything like "2 and 3000 dollars".

I know your job is to sell cars so being up front and honest isn't in your habits but I don't appreciate people putting words in my mouth and then asking me to explain them.

upfront and honest, you dont even know me..any of my customers will tell you im as honest as they come but you bring up wholebacks as if its a 2-3000 dollars, holdbacks is truly not that big a deal. what shouldnt appreciate is not knowing what your talking about before you give people advice and also there is a holdback, not holdbacks.

I am looking to buy/lease at below Edmund's invoice. That's the best deal going on for Genesis Sedan right now. I think it took about 2 month (after the lauch of the sedan) for people to reach that deal. How long do you think I have to wait ?

What? You start your negociations at invoice price and work your way DOWN, not up! The dealer pays nowhere near the invoice price, no matter what he tells you, unless the car sits on his lot for months. You need to read up on what they call "holdbacks".

http://autos.aol.com/article/car-news/what-is-dealer-holdback/20071118102409990001

But then again, in a market where there's very little offer and lots of demand, your success rate to negociate at all is greatly diminished.

Looking at the papers that Johnny posted, it appears that flooring and holdbacks are already accounted for in the invoice prices listed. First asterisk item at the bottom of the chart.

I am going to do this the old fashioned way when I go to get my car... save up the money and pay cash.

Flooring and holdback being "included" in the posted price means that those amounts haven't been removed i.e. are "included". Flooring and holdback reduce the cost of a car, they don't augment it.

I know exactly what flooring costs and holdback are. I was just saying that holdback and flooring was included in the prices Johnny posted. Nothing more/less. Obviously, one should be aware of these two items and try to negotiate them away. A great website to learn about negotiating a car purchase: http://www.carbuyingtips.com/

this information is very helpful. Thank you.

You're very welcome Genboi. :D

Glad to see someone taking this thread for what it is and not attempting to start a flame war.

By the way, if anyone gets the new numbers for April please post them so we can continue helping people get into these awesome cars without getting bent over by their dealer!

Well I'm waiting for my dealer to get a 2.0T Track. Once he does, I'll talk numbers. I fear I may be going out of state to buy. The dealers here in Vegas don't reserve "Market Value Adjustments" for high demand cars. The local dealer here wants $2500 over sticker for Elantra Touring's and $1500 over sticker for Sonata's.

That's BS. Try low-balling by offering them $2000 under invoice. In fact, it's not really a low-balling. Honda Accords these days going at $2000 under invoice. It is a complete buyers' market out there.

Yep, you read it correctly. Problem with Vegas is that our population here is growing at a rate of over 3,000 new people per month. So, dealers are willing to hold the line on pricing. For every person who walks out pissed off, there's two walking in. Not only that, but Vegas dealers only order the highest demand configuration of any new car. Right now, most of the Gen Coupes in Vegas are V6 autos because that's what non-enthusiasts want. I have found one sales guy here that seems to want to sell me a car. However, even if he wants to deal, he's got to get through his "team leader" (the closer) and the manager in the "tower" (the elevated desk in the corner at every Vegas dealership).

You should really consider going out of state, I traveled about 250 miles to Virginia to get mine, it cost me about $120 to do but the dealer saved me $1000.

If your dealers are marking up by $3000 it might really be worth it to find one elsewhere.

I located mine using Vehix.com to search what dealers had within 300 miles and then called the ones that had my car on the floor.

Good Luck!

I don't care what anyone says....... no car is worth over MSRP. Heck, I personally don't think any car is worth MSRP, just that's just me. Once dealers start putting adjustment increases on their precious 'just received' vehicles, they've lost any respect for the consumer.

I have nothing against you Priority but come on....
whateva happen to fun car-buying

...that went away when dealers started and continue to jerk consumers for as much as they can. I'm not saying all salespeople or dealers are like that but the majority has indeed screwed it up for those trying to be honest. IMO, price increase adjustment is just another way of a shark waiting for a sucker to take bait. Now where's the fun in that???

There's ALWAYS going to be the war of dealers vs. consumers. Dealers have had their way for too long. Now the consumer (for the most part) is knowledgeable enough to negotiate based on what they want, not the dealer. Now with this economy, dealers don't have much negotiating room... if they're willing to move cars.

I bought my last 2 cars in Cali and am talking with a Utah dealer about a Gen Coupe.

hmm, buying the car out of state. what happens to registration and tax ?

Larger dealers often have a section that deals with tax/tags for out-of-state purchases.

Varies by state. The cars I bought in Cali, I had to pay the tax there. When I registered in Vegas, I didn't pay tax again, just registration. Some states will waive the sales tax and give you a 24-hour temp permit to drive the vehicle out of state (Cali used to do this).

Yea, that's what Virginia did for me.
