If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 3.3T Genesis G70 Oil and Filter change (how-to)

Looking to make your Genesis unique? Look no further than KDM Warehouse - where orders are shipped immediately!
I beat my record for oil change time. 20 minutes and 30 seconds. Lay the tools and oil out. Take both covers off - take off filter and cover, drain it, new filter back in, drain plug off, back in, put the covers on, fill it up.
Can u tell me please how many steel bolts and how many black plastic push pins hold up the back ear engine cover. Mine fell off and I ordered it. Just need to order the screws n bolts if u know of both part numbers please!

This should be exactly what you need. Check out the diagram and the part numbers are listed there.

My 1 year service reminder came up recently for an oil change and took a pic of that area again while I had the cover off. Some folks have seen a little seepage here so posting a pic of mine that is bone dry. For reference 2019 3.3 AWD SPORT with just over 20,000 miles.

Interesting. I also have a 2019 3.3 AWD with 27k miles. Just changed the oil today. Mine is always a little bit oily in that area, but not actually dripping. In the 5k mile change interval, there is no measurable oil loss. I should have taken a pic.

It almost looks like there could have been a tiny bit of seepage at one point but dried up... or not?

Interesting, didn't know others had this - at 71k miles I am showing that at one point, my transmission had a leak in this area, but every time i'm under there, it's dried up. Wondering how that makes sense, but as long as it ain't leaking, who cares...

Stinger guys post about this a good bit. The "leak" is from the main output shaft seal. Some of the pics I've seen looked a lot worse than that. There are a couple of causes. One is, of course, just a worn main seal. In that case, you're basically screwed. The seepage won't stop and will likely get worse over time. Another cause could be just from running the engine hard, like pulling WOT drag runs. High combustion chamber pressure = high volume of blowbys = high crankcase positive pressure = more force to squeeze oil through that main shaft oil seal. If your piston rings are not in the best of shape, they'll make the problem worse. This is the same cause for folks finding a lot of oil in their oil catch cans. That same positive pressure build-up in the crankcase will find a way to relieve itself, through whatever means it finds.

Yours almost seem like it might not have been oil stain from the same source at all. Could've been just road grime dripping down and accumulating at the lowest spot of the bell housing. There can a lot of oil on road surfaces getting splashed onto cars, whenever it rains or snows. All depends on how the car was driven.

Regardless, things like this is why I usually clean/degrease my engine every so often. Keeping the engine crud-free is never a bad thing, but it mainly lets me see any oil leaks clearly, without a bunch of old crud obscuring the source and drip path(s).

This is the same area from last years oil change. This instance did leave residue on my fingers when touched however there wasn't anything visible on the cover underneath it. Thanks for the idea on using degreaser to track the history. I'll be cleaning that up the next time I'm under there.

Doubt this makes a difference but the seepage you see in the pic above was from oil that the dealer had been using during the first 2 complimentary oil changes. I have a feeling it was not full synthetic looking at my 1st 2 oil change receipts so last year I started doing my own oil changes using Mobil 1 5W 30.

For what its worth I haven't done any sustained WOT or launches since Nov 2021.

Unless you're doing your own oil changes since day 1 (like me), it's hard to know what happened. Having said that, if there's no obvious leak, I wouldn't worry about that residue at all. But now that you'll do your own oil changes, clean everything perfectly, and from now on you can monitor it. If there's still residue, determine if it's motor oi or transmission fluid, to know which seal might give you trouble in the future. But until it does, no need to do anything.

So I'm curious, is 0W-30 fine for our cars? From what I have been reading, it seems like it might be better(?) but I'm not exactly well versed in this stuff.
The reason for asking is that it was listed as the product used for my last oil change at the dealer. I also figured that being in California probably means that I never actually test the lower temp limits of the oil anyways.
I know this thread is old, but my dealership did the same thing, did you have any issues with 0W-30 in your car? Thanks

Changed my oil and filter last night, and the experience was pretty dang easy. After watching a popular Kia Stinger oil change, I became worried that I needed a specific oil filter socket, so I ordered this one from Amazon...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KMULLY2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

FYI - you don't need it. In fact, any 27mm socket will do, though you *may* have to remove the underside cowling vs just using the access panel. But if you're partial to the low-profile type, you can find a couple others on amazon for a few bucks less than what this one costs.

I also used a WIX filter. Specifically, P/N WL10237. I ordered it from my local O'Reilly autoparts store. $10, I believe (could be wrong, I forgot the price). And this is a very good filter, definitely better than the OEM filter my car came with (as you'll see in the video below). You can also get it from Amazon, but it's more expensive.

Last but not least, I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 full synthetic oil. Got it from Walmart. You can also get it from Amazon, slightly more, but you get more discounts from the mail-in rebates (that is, if you trust Pennzoil to honor them, haha). Anyway, you need ~7.5 US Quarts.

(Walmart) Robot or human?

Last, but certainly not least, here is my how-to video.

Hope this helps anyone who wants to do it on their own and isn't sure about how to do it.
Thanks for the good info on the oil change. FYI, as for the WIX filter you mentioned - I use the same one. But if you noticed, they're made in Korea - and I believe they're the same filter as the OEM that comes in the vehicle from the factory....

I use only Mobil1 5W-30 - expensive (I buy it at Costco on sale) but worth it. I only drive about 6000 miles a year, so I only have to change my oil once a year....

For those changing their own oil, I was surprised to find that RockAuto had a much better price on the WIX oil filters than Amazon (about $5 vs $14). I just ordered four of them, and the shipping was only $6, so still a great deal on the same part number.

Good tip - I buy my WIX filters at Rock Auto also, they have the best price - I get 2 or 3 at a time to save on shipping costs. Including shipping, I think my net cost per filter is about 7 bucks ea. Amazon doesn't always have the best price - most things I buy nowadays I look at the Amazon price, then I find it somewhere else a little (sometimes ALOT) cheaper.... Wife has Amazon Prime, so sometimes if I'm in a hurry for something and don't want to pay shipping, she orders it for me....

I changed my oil today on my 2023 G70 3.3T and I cannot find where to reset the service reminder/oil change notification. It does not appear to be in the same spot as earlier cars. Anyone have any ideas?

@Old G70 Guy - thanks for the tip on using Rock Auto for the WIX filters!

EDIT: Figured it out. Setup -> Vehicle -> Convenience

My dealership gives me two free oil/filter changes per year, so I no longer do it myself.

They pretty much all do. The problem is what oil do they use? If it's really a Hyundai dealer, there is a very good chance they are using the wrong oil. I called the two dealers around here and they both said they only use Castrol synthetic blend. That's fine for my wife's Tucson but not my baby.

Thanks for the info. Changing my oil twice a year will give me optimum engine protection. I'm not anal about the oil brand. If I was changing my oil every 12-18 months or routinely pushed the motor, I'd pay more attention to the oil brand. I'm fine with using what the factory recommends, which is what my Genesis dealership uses.

Believe it or not, if I let my dealer change the oil in my G70 3.3T, they use REGULAR old generic Valvoline (or whatever) petroleum-based oil. I don't change my own oil (at 70 yrs I'm too old and crippled up with neuropathy) but I ALWAYS furnish my own oil (Mobil 1 Full Synthetic) and WIX filter, which are made in Korea and the same filter used at the factory on new Genesis cars........

And because I don't drive that much (about 5500 miles/yr on average) I only change my oil and filter once a year, every October.....

Ha, they probably take your Mobile 1 Full Synth and then fill the car with their stuff...
